Not sure what your budget is, but I picked these up specifically for jogging; https://smile.amazon.com/AfterShokz-Wireless-Conduction-Headphones-AS650MB/dp/B076FCWFPH/

They've been a massive help, as they leave your ears open so you can hear the world around you (like traffic). Wireless, bluetooth, very high range. Loss of sound quality, but it's been really easy to adjust for me.

They've got a more budget model that's more or less the same; https://smile.amazon.com/AfterShokz-Titanium-Conduction-Headphones-AS600SG/dp/B018XNGQOE/

Bonus; great to wear when cooking, doing chores, laundry, etc. :)

This sucks so bad!

Good to hear that you are seeing a physio — you’ll get better advice from a professional than from reddit.

The one thing I would recommend along with that is to work on your running form to try to avoid further injuries in the future. I found this really helpful, and have just started reading Your Best Stride which (so far!) has been very interesting.

Good luck!

Thanks! It’s actually an NHL-branded headband. (Go Devils! Way to fight back!) There may be some left in your local team’s colors online if you search for “braided headband” and your team name. It’s great because it’s rubberized on the inside so it doesn’t slide off of my giant dome as much as most headbands do.

As for the headphones, they are supposedly “ultra waterproof” and “sweat-proof” and so far so good! They use Bluetooth (so no cord to tug and send your phone, wallet case, and credit cards flying all over the gym...), have volume buttons, hold a charge for 6(?) hours, boast pretty good bass, and include lots of tip options. I have a lot of trouble making earbuds stay put in my tiny ear canals, generally, but these work pretty well without too much adjustment. Especially for the current sale price of only $26, I’m really pleased with them overall! (Not a secret Anker corporate shill)

EDIT: Looks like they make those headbands for other sports leagues, too. The brand is Little Earth and they can be found here.

EDIT 2: I see you are in Canada. Looks like the headbands might be US teams only :(

I got these Under Armour ones and they're cozy & not too restrictive. I LOVE them. (I got a large. I'm normally an XL in pants but according to the size chart, it said I should go for the L so the compression would work. They do not feel too tight or anything). They're a little pricey, but there was a Cyber Monday deal at Dick's sporting goods, so that helped: http://www.amazon.com/Under-Armour-Womens-Authentic-ColdGear%C2%AE/dp/B00E84QBRK

Later I got some crazy ones for my birthday -They ARE super constrictive but I like them too..though I did manage to almost hurt myself putting them on LOL. Once they're on, they do not fall down though! These were even pricier -I probably would have never purchased them for myself, but I'm glad I have a pair.

I wear them under sweatpants when it's cold and thin track style pants or shorts when it is warm out. I know some people just run around in their tights but I'm not comfortable doing that yet :) Also, maybe TMI but a helpful hint - I think most people (including myself) don't wear anything under the tights as that would be just an unnecessary extra layer that would be uncomfortable lol

I've started running in a lambswool thermal, and my mom bought me running gloves ages back - those make a huge difference. It's in low single digits here (London, UK) and I'm running in the morning which is cooler... so I wear the thermal and then a tight running zippy (need pockets somewhere that don't bounce!). I wear a buff on my head to keep my ears and forehead warm (it's fantastic), the running gloves, and some loose full-length running trousers. It's light enough that I stay cool when I'm heating up towards the end of the run, btu I don't get cold at all. Definitely worth investing in that sort of thing -- tey aren't expensive at all.

Examples of the buff - they can be worn a zillion ways as well; for the mornings I roll it in quarters and wear it like a headband. When I go cycling I wear it so my face is popping out of the opening so it keeps my ears as well as my neck covered. If it's warmer and I don't need all of it I just wear it around my neck for cycling as that's better than a scarf and more loose than my cycling top.

I have female running gloves similar to these (though not Nike) and they're awesome; got the fiancé some of those for Christmas too!

These are mine and I love them.

While this may be a good time to get some new kicks, it's also a good time to have your gait re-evaluated at a running specialty store so you can be sure you are selecting the right kind of new shoes for what you need. Good luck!

  1. I use Endomondo, but it's the same idea as Nike+. Either way, it's not necessary, but it's fun to look at your pace and other stats after. For the actual timing, I use C25K Free.

  2. An armband like this for you phone is a lifesaver

  3. I have the same issue with ear buds i picked up these at Target. They are pretty cheap, and they have 3 sizes of rubber caps that you can choose to fit your ear.

  4. I've been doing sidewalk/street in my neighborhood with no problems. I think convenient is key, so you don't have another reason to quit.

  5. Water before and after is plenty, a half hour isn't long enough that you need to bring anything.

  6. I don't know what the recommendations are, but I wake up, eat a piece of fruit while I'm getting ready, do my workout, then have breakfast after.

  7. Running shoes are best, but you can get through the first week with your shoes, unless they are beat to hell maybe.

These Are the ones that I bought. Wow! They're only $15.00 now! This is the link to the running belt I'm using. It's pretty terrific. No slipping or bouncing around when I run!

Good luck with your running!

u/inflatablejerk · 2 pointsr/C25K

Congrats! its a lot easier if you run when its not hot. I just finished w3d1 while running at 830pm and i feel like it was the easiest run yet.

As for your phone, i just got his http://amzn.com/B005DEKC9C and its great. makes life so much easier.

Also for 2 dollars, this is worth every penny. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.guyhoffman.c25k.pro it keeps track of your runs and has an option for a halfway mark, so it lets you know when to turn around.

Keep going!

Everyone's needs are different but for me, I found that K-Swiss Tubes provide a good amount of spring and cushioning while being very light weight so that they ended up being the best for my knees and hips. The tubes look kind of goofy but they're fun.

I THINK I got them from Target about 6-7 months ago. I can’t think of any where else I have bought exercise pants recently. They’re technically more like yoga pants, I suppose. I honestly don’t know the difference between any exercise pants haha. They wick moisture and they’re super duper comfy.

My husband has a little fanny pack from Amazon that works well too! You can zip your phone in and it’s water proof I think.

If anyone is curious! Pretty simple to assemble (with the help of my husband) (ok he did it all), came in 3 days, and the price is right! The speed goes up to 10 mph, and although the belt is narrower than I'm used to, I adjusted quickly. Super excited!!

Pebble Smartwatch for $50 this is 1st gen, there is a 2nd, but unfortunately fitbit bought them out so no 3rd in the works. I have both generations and they still work great. waterproof, pairs with phone, can read texts, control music. they arent touch screen, the screen uses tech similar to kindle. nice and simple. also comes with apps that are free and user created so you can have a c25k app on there and have it vibrate if you want to tell you when to walk/run instead of looking.

I get exercise induced asthma (I think, self diagnosed) and since childhood have never been able to run in colder temperatures. Once ran to catch a train in the winter and ended up with severe chest pains lasting >15 mins. Turns out it's the dryness of the air as opposed to the temperature. Either way, easy fix: get a snood (or three). I got this one off Amazon before starting C25K and has worked a total treat! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00T4JXOSI/

Can't say much for motivation as I'm just about to start W3, but maybe running outdoors will help, change of scenery etc. Good luck!

It does get better-- just keep plugging along!

As for the iPod/keys problem, I would suggest getting an arm band. They aren't that bad, and it's really nice to get it out of the way. Also, not really that uncomfortable either-- a bit snug, and can pinch, but a simple rotation fixes that.

Keys can be tied to the shoelace with no problem. I usually untie one lace from a shoe hole, put the lace through the key, and re-lace the shoes and tie. Done.

They also make these arm bands or shoe compartments that you can put your key in, along with your id, credit card, etc. Those are handy and can hold a fair bit.

Again, nice work and good luck!

They're Phaiser BHS-530's. I bought them for the fit, rather than the sound. They don't move around at all during a run and there's no cord noise from it bouncing during exercise. Build quality is lackluster and sound quality is mediocre, but since I take care of my things, they've treated me really well. At $35, I'm very happy with them.

You can find a series of stretches on the internet for PF. On top of that, the doctor I saw today recommended rolling my foot on a golf ball to try and stretch it out. He also recommended using a towel or strap to pull my foot back towards me. Start first by pulling back on the balls of the feet, but then moving to the toes themselves - it will stretch the area better.

I also use a water bottle (think $0.99 bottle from store) frozen and roll my foot on that to ice my heel.

On last stretch involves folding a towel on the floor so I have a bit of a raised edge - then place my foot so that one side of it is along the edge of the towel, then lean forward against the wall and stretch down my leg and in my foot. The towel tilts my foot a bit one way (think an airplane tipping its wings one way), then the next.

Both the doctor and my therapist before him recommended a semi-rigid insert to wear in my shoes. I got this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IJ0QHC and my doctor said that was a good choice.

I was also told to never walk barefoot - to always wear shoes or firm sandals, even when indoors. So I try to wear my Tevas in the house.

All that... and vitamin I... Ibuprofen.

Strava tracks your pace when running. So does map my run. I'm pretty sure most fitness GPS based do. As mentioned watches do a good job being automatic and hands off and all that vs unlocking your screen, swiping here and there, etc, etc..

I cautiously recommend a tomtom spark (1st gen) cardio, hr and music watch, found at Amazon for $140 $129. (good deal) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01603Y830/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_vuV4ybJ99B9M7
