You're getting downvoted, but Epstein suggested as much in Verducci's book. About his final year with Boston:

> We're the best team in baseball, we look really good, it's August of 2011, I'm thinking this would be really great if we can win a World Series and I can leave on top—a third World Series, they're set up for the future.

Tom Verducci, The Cubs Way 38.

With regard to Epstein's thoughts and leaving Boston:

> Several factors began to push [Epstein] further away emotionally from the Red Sox. Epstein read a book by Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh that summer in which Walsh wrote that the voice of a coach or executive turns stale after about a decade with one organization.

> "He talked about it as a sports executive, but it applied to almost any situation in a leadership role," Epstein said. "That it benefits not only the individual but also the institution to seek change every 10 years. And I've seen it, with managers or coaches in other sports, leaders.

> The same message or the same voice tends to get tuned out a little bit just by human nature. So it's impossible to have the same originality, same creativity, same freshness . . . it's impossible to look at things with an open lens. You start to close your lens based on your successes and failures a little bit."

Id. 37-38.

Assuming he still holds to that same philosophy (and there's no reason to think he doesn't) he may very well move on after his most recent extension, which coincidentally would be 10 years with the Cubs. If that's the case, hopefully they can win more than one more World Series in the next few years.

Main: Technically my job, but obviously I'm actually on Reddit.

Alt: Probably my shitty Chinese knock-off Ghetto Blaster from Amazon. Bought it on a whim after walking through back alleys in the semi-ghetto in LA and feeling the need to carry a boombox on my shoulder. It's cheap and truly doesn't work all that well, but it's super fun anyway.

I believe the more you know about a sport the more you can enjoy it. Once you understand the very basics I want to suggest the book Watching baseball Smarter.

It's a real easy read, but will inform you of some of the more nuanced aspects of the game.

Also the Cubs should be a good follow for the next 5-10 years. Our front office has done a good job of finding future talent.

If you're in the Chicago area, this book is currently clearanced for $9 at Walmart. It's by the Trib and has a lot of great info about last year's team and fantastic photos. I'd also watch the various documentaries about Cubs fans that ran last year on Fox Sports and MLB network (Confessions of a Cubs fan is a good one and is on YouTube, I think).

The sidebar of the desktop site here has a good variety of Cubs related blogs/podcasts in the News/Analysis/Podcasts area.

As far as books go, I recommend reading Ron Santo's biography. He is a very important figure in Cubs lore. Ernie Banks and Billy Williams as well. Ernie lived a very interesting live.

The Cubs of 69 is another good read. Apparently you can get it for $1 on amazon right now.

I'd also watch the ESPN 30 for 30 film Catching Hell. It details a lot of important information in Cubs history.

On top of that there is a TON of history with the Chicago NL franchise. I could go on forever.

A friend suggested sealing them since they fade and get yellowish over time. They mentioned a newspaper holder and looked around and found this. Another friend already framed his with Walmart frames, really nice and cheap too.

lol nice! Ya! I went to a christian academy and university. But the past few years have....lets just say my belief system is a lot like the scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, where the bridge is an illusion. Like..it was there once, but now I can't see it and I don't trust that it's there.

Also...I KNOW you will like this then. I'm listening to an audio book on my way into work every morning. Baseball as a Road to God by John Sexton.

Honestly, this is the first contribution I've seen by him. However, I've read his book and it's great, definitely in line with this article. Then again, I'm a total sucker for player stories, like when Coomer goes into his little schpiels every now and then.

Not about this past season, but I read Crazy '08 a while back and really enjoyed it. It's about the road to the WS that took place in 1908 (Tinkers to Evers to Chance, Mordecai Brown, etc.)

Book wise "how we are hungry" is a great set of short stories. Author is from Chicago. https://www.amazon.com/How-Are-Hungry-Dave-Eggers/dp/1400095565

LOL holy schnike, take in ALL the glory and cheers man, that was a hell of a snag! You should buy one of those animated picture frames and put it on your desk at work. Dominance asserted in the office.

This has done me pretty well. As loud and as good/better quality than my brother's JBL. And only 20 bucks.

u/iamj33bus · 3 pointsr/CHICubs

You can also watch the WGN and ABC games on your TV (if you have a TV) with an antenna. I got this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JC9J2NQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

It gets a bit jittery when the train goes by but the picture quality is really good.

Yeah, I got my A+ back in May to get my foot in the door with IT. There are two tests that aren't that difficult if you have a decent understanding of computers. The first tests you on hardware, the second is focused on the Windows OS.

To study, I used the Mike Meyers A+ Cert guide and Professor Messer's videos. I cannot speak highly enough about those videos.

Seriously.. he doesn't know what he is missing. I mean just look at the lovely lady I spent my last weekend with. Still makes you drugging him all the more impressive if he wasn't inebriated. You must have made the ol Bob Saget special.
