Are you using an NPT or triclamp style tube? If you're using NPT (national pipe thread, american pipes in inches basically) you can get a brass NPT ball valve, a reducer to put into the valve for a smaller thread size, and another brass piece, this time a 1/4" flared end for gas. You'll need teflon pipe threading tape to seal everything up and a vice grip or a couple of pipe wrenches to put the thing together. You can get all of this on amazon.

If you have a device like in picture with triclamp ends you'd already know where to get all of this crap but www.glaciertanks.com and www.brewershardware.com sell all the triclamp pieces you will ever need. Glacier Tanks is in oregon and supports the CLS extractor community directly by selling pre-fabbed terpinator style lids and collection pots, Brewers Hardware has a bunch of stuff they don't carry though as well. I've used both and they are awesome. Brewers Hardware also has lower prices on a lot of stuff like the spools you'll be using as extraction tubes, and they sell the national pipe thread to triclamp ends that I'm gonna need to modify my own old open blast tubes (my 1-2 and 3-5oz tubes depending on material and how tight it packs) into CLS parts. I have a calculator setup i've figured out though for how big of a tube can fit how much material for CLS use though. a 3"x18" spool fits about a half pound (bhogart sells a 3"x36" as their 1LB unit and it fits roughly that), so I figured out its volume from there and I can figure out how big of a tube will fit say 1oz, 2 ounces, and so on. you don't need perfectly filled tubes with CLS extractors either, you can fluff the top with coffee filters so the butane disperses evenly on the top, and typically in a shower style unit like the Bhogart, the top few inches don't get properly extracted anyways if you fill it all the way to the brim. I try to leave 2-3 inches at the top of the 36" column bare so it can just shower down and it seems to work really well, but with a narrower tube size you will probably be okay.

IF you got this far, you also are going to want a can cracker. You can use it on the top of the pipe in lieu of the brass hose hookup by screwing it directly to the top, but you need to make sure you get the right fittings for it. It looks like the crackers they sell all have the 1/4" flare end facing the wrong angle, so you'll probably need the hose after all. here's the cracker and a link to the right type of hose, as well as a link to one of the fitting types (though maybe not in the right NPT thread you need).

after reading around, you said your pipe was 2" so i modified the list with everything you'd need to modify a 2" pipe.

These are much nicer tubes for about the same price. They come with a three pack of micron screens and a clamp. The one you linked to those are all extra.

I would not get anything cheaper or smaller than the provac you linked to. It's a great starter chamber and a good value.

That pump is not ideal. It is rated at 500u. Not enough for proper extracts. You really don't want to skimp out on the vac. It's extremely important to ensure properly purged oil. IMHO the minimum you want to be looking at is the Robinair 15300 but if it were me I'd spend a couple extra bucks and get the Robinair 15500. I own the 15550 and it works great! It's also probably the best value on the market right now at the price amazon is selling them.

I'd also advise picking up a roll of Oil Slick Sheet. You can blast right on to it. It works well for small runs.

As far as your tek, watch this video and do it just like shown and you'll be golden!

Butane torches, I've loved my Newport (it comes in other colors if gold isn't your thing). My guy has one of those and a Blazer Big Shot which is nice as well. Both have stood the test of time. The Newport you can operate with one hand, the Big Shot is possible to operate with one hand but slightly more difficult. I ordered a 6-pack of Newport butane with my torch and it's performed wonderfully. A cheap Bernzomatic torch from Home Depot will conk out on you, so just factor that in to whether you want to make another trip to pick up a new torch in 6 months, or buy a slightly more expensive one that'll last twice as long if not longer.

If you're going the propane route and have a TI nail, just make sure you don't overheat your nail. Titanium reacts with oxygen when it reaches a certain temperature, creating titanium oxide (the white coating you see on some TI nails) and titanium dioxide dust, which you can inhale and is definitely not good for you. You can reach this temp with butane or propane, but because propane burns about 1000 degrees (F) hotter than butane, you can reach that temp much easier. Those big blue propane tanks at Home Depot run about $5 though, if you're looking for a cheap and efficient route.

I wouldn’t say there’s a lot of debate over decarbing. It’s pretty well agreed upon that if you’re going to put your extract in a cart then you need to decarb so that you 1. have an extract that’s fluid enough to wick on your cart and 2. prevent your extract from crystallizing in the cart.

If you wanna take some of the guess work out of decarbing, don’t do it before your extraction. Once you have your extract you can decarb it at 200f and instead of using a timer you can watch it bubble. As the extract decarb a you can visually see the carbon dioxide bubbling out. So once almost all of the bubbling is gone, your extract is finished decarbing and you should have a less dark concentrate.

Dry ice is what you want. Not liquid nitrogen. Nitrogen will freeze your got damn hand off. So will dry ice, but not if you’re wearing some thick gloves haha it’s like 2 dollars a pound where I live and for something small scale you should use too much.

Vacuum filtration is a MUST. You don’t necessarily need an expensive vacuum pump for this, instead you can get away with a faucet aspirator . They are pretty cheap and let you get enough of a vacuum to filter. You can get away without vacuum filtering on high micron filters without a lot of sediment, but if you want to do low micron like you mentioned or get into carbon filtering gravity filtration can take hours.

Those liquifiers can contain some real garbage in them. Pg, Vg, PEG, mct oil (mineral oil based on some independent testing of True Terpenes supposed “100% natural terpenes blend”) and who knows what else because MOST OF THEM WON’T TELL YOU. It’s a proprietary blend. If you can afford it get a blend of terpenes. Floraplex actually offers msds sheets for their products, so you know what’s in it. Mass terpenes does not do this, but they get a lot of support from the community along with Mr. Extractor. Mass terpenes and floraplex are quite affordable too!

This has been asked a thousand times, at least twice this past week. Please use the search next time. Anyway I'll just copy and paste my last response:

I would go for this chamber:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vacuum-and-Degassing-chamber-1-5GL-/221257099507?pt=BI_Pumps&hash=item3383f368f3

If not this one, then a stainless steel one, the bell plastic chambers are not good if you have a heat pad or something in it.

Go for this vac pump:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005CO9GX6/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?qid=1375793140&sr=1-5&pi=AA160
You could get one cheaper there on amazon or eBay, it's up to you, but I recommend a 3 CFM pump or higher.

This hot plate is battery powered, fits in the chamber, and can keep a pretty good constant low temp:
http://www.amazon.com/Aroma-AHP-303-Single-Plate-Black/dp/B0007QCRNU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375192614&sr=8-1&keywords=battery+hot+plate
Hopefully this gets you started in the right direction, there are many many options for a nice vac set up, I'm sure if you look around you'll find good deals.

This is the complete set up.

And here is how to use it.
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+use+a+buchner+funnel

Bret Maverick has some good info on dewaxing.

As for those screens, i tend to question anything that i can see through. I cant tell you that those wont work. If they really are 25 micron then there is no arguing with that. The best reusable filter medium ive used is boro wool. As well as that i use the ashless paper filters.

Im honestly not sure what the exact ratio is for alcohol to oil but its an easy google search. Just make sure you use enough alcohol. Which is easy. Just use a bunch lol. Too much won't negatively effect it where too little will. Check out a few of those videos though. Buchners are easy to use but also easy to mess up.

u/MF_Mood · 5 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

AFAIK yes, but the danger is that they can rip and leave little pieces in your extract if you don't notice.

I use FEP for storage. It's not safe for pressing but you can't tear it at all. They are clear like glass and reusable if you wipe them down with alcohol. They don't fold well, that's the only caveat I can think of. Here is some info from Terp Proof on FEP. They are much smarter than me and are pretty responsive via their chat function if you have questions.
I think they only sell by x1000 though so I ended up buying mine on Amazon through a company called The Press Club. Very good quality, I recommend.

u/ibecirious · 2 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

I'm new to this too but I have been doing a lot of reading.

I got a cheap press from amazon and it works fine for small loads

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KGQVTMY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you think you'll need to work more material, it seems like the best price option is to buy the plates/controllers/etc and put them into a shop press frame. Most of the $500+ options can be hand made cheaper.

You don't need too many tons of pressure, either, so don't be scammed there. 1000 psi for flower is about all that's recommended. You won't get that across your whole plate but I probably get close to that just hand cranking the cheap one I got.

u/Fungnificent · 7 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

Ah, after further reading (never worked with it before), it seems as if diatomaceous earth (celite) is used as a filter media for the fine dust-grade carbon itself . It (DE) is siliceous, therefore has limited absorbent properties. Due to its fine particle size and neutral phsyical/chemical properties, it is an ideal media for manufacturing single-use in-process filter beds during vacuum assisted filtrations.

Short-version - diatomaceous earth (celite) forms an additional super-fine filterbed on top of your normal buchner filter paper (or coffee paper if you're a cheapo), that assists in removal of fine carbon used for color-working product.

Personal suggestion/question - Why use celite? It costs as much as a low-micron fritted glass filter, and seems to just add more labor. Or alternatively, why not use fish-filter carbon? it is larger in particle size, and much easier to catch without adding another single-use product to your filtration process. (When I do this at home, I'd add the fish-filter grade carbon, and let it sit over night in the freezer, and pass it through a frit-filter, winterizing and colorworking in a single step)

Celite is just a trademarked brand of diatomaceous earth.

Edit : For links/info

- "fish filter grade carbon - https://www.amazon.com/Acurel-LLC-Activated-Aquarium-Accessory/dp/B000YIYSH4

- cheapo fritted glass filter - (real cheap, stoneyglass is good for the price though) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0781C4C8P/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0781C4C8P&pd_rd_w=Qgg4T&pf_rd_p=46cdcfa7-b302-4268-b799-8f7d8cb5008b&pd_rd_wg=0BoHA&pf_rd_r=QQWVJWQ3JG5D5WS8RYRZ&pd_rd_r=d46bbb9d-7a90-11e9-9308-7719d34db95a

Tip - To clean your fritted filter, use warm ethanol. Ethanol drifts in polarity depending on temperature, when hot, it picks up fats and waxes, and when cool, forces them out of suspension. So, when you get a fatty filter, just run hot ethanol through it.

u/brohemith · 3 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

As others have said, PTFE sheets are the best way to go. Something like these; http://www.amazon.com/Oil-Slick-Labratory-Resistant-Alternative/dp/B00AWK04IQ

Being able to blast, heat purge, and then transfer to vacuum all in one pan makes the entire process go a lot easier. It especially helps in giving a nice, even patty so all of it purges equally.

u/Bigbabybutthurt · 1 pointr/CannabisExtracts

Just winterize it, use a cheap vacuum pump and get a 40$ Buchner off Amazon they come with the filter paper, hose and everything you’ll need, dissolve the finger hash into warm ethanol let it cool and add dry ice when it’s done reacting run it through the filter. Evap the ethanol and you’re left with a concentrate that is plant matter free.

There are much better methods to do this, like freezing the material over 24hrs with dry ice, but, this is super fast and you’ll be done in just a few hours.

Here’s a link to a filter on amazon super cheap and easy.

Looking at this specifically.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0009XT7NY/ref=ox_sc_act_image_21?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I have a 90g closed column pressurized extractor from Extraction Experts. (http://www.extractionexperts.com/products.html) It includes:
Main Stainless Steel herb fill column.
1 top lid with valve and 3/8 gas flare fitting.
1 bottom lid with valve and fine barb exit port.
1 50 micron screen.
1 150 micron screen.
2 clamps to secure each lid.

The question:

  1. How does this can tapper work, and what else would I need to use with '5x Power super refined butane gas' cans? The can has some sort of plastic adaptors on top?
  2. Is there a way to attach a pressure Guage to my system? From my understanding, I should create a negative pressure in my column so all the butane will transfer into the column from the can. I don't want to over /under pressurize my column. I have a 2 stage 5 CFM pump.
  3. what would be the next steps in upgrading my system? I was thinking obviously I could get another 1.5" spool and make the column taller, but I want to eventually reclaim.
  4. The vacuum I got has a Kuri Tec® POLYSPRING® PVC Food & Beverage Vacuum Hose Series K7160 attached to it. Is this ok? Should I ditch it and buy a different hose? I understand stainless steel or PTFE is preferred?
  5. The image is my current set up, am I missing anything for my first BHO run?

Really appreciate want help. Thanks to all!

BBaB Bonjour Creme Brulee torch is the best IMO. I have a 14mm domeless and it takes about 25 seconds to heat up, I can usually get about 50 dabs before I have to refill. A can of butane lasts me 5-6 grams of shatter with this torch. The Big Shot torch is also a good one: http://www.amazon.com/Blazer-GT8000-Shot-Butane-Torch/dp/B000NCZU0A

What is active carbon used for?

For Butane, I just use whatever is on sale, for your torch it doesn't really matter. Lately I have been using Power 5x since it's 2 for $5 at my local smoke shop. You can buy a case on Amazon for like $38.

u/BrapAllgood · 2 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

Well, for what? :) The most famous in my kit at work is this silver spoon I use for crumble. It's small, like a child's spoon (not baby), has the handle attached to the side in a curly way that lets it stand up when I set it down. Curls right around the index finger. I'd chop it up into logical bits, then use the spoon to manage the pile and load onto PTFE tared on the scale, then quickly fold the corners together, make a funnel, and deliver the load into the jar. That spoon got me from 600 jars a shift to 1200 jars a shift. Found it on Ebay and won it at auction for $12. On desktop, not gonna search for a pic of it right now, but it's rad.

That spoon, the kitchen scraper, and a flat-bladed dab tool are about it...AH. Ready? THIS combined with what I call 'The Shovel'-- rightmost tool-- can move sugars and sauces at quite the rate too. That linked set, the kitchen scraper, the ear cleaning tool, and my silver spoon finally gained at 49 yrs old are my basic needed toolkit for concentrates.

And this chair.

I just love my torch and it's easily my most favorite of all the ones I've had. It's the Blazer Gt8000 Big Shot. Little bit pricey but in my opinion its worth it for how fast it heats up the nail and for how much you'll be using it haha

Don't waste your time on a brake bleeding kit. Hand pumps take constant strenuous pumping to reach -29mm/hg and they aren't meant for that sort of constant use. I went through 3 hand pumps that each lasted a maximum of 3 weeks before I sucked it up and bought an electric pump. You can find them on amazon for around $100. Best purchase I've ever made.

Here's a 3.0 cfm single stage robinair that would be more than sufficient (I use a 1.5 cfm and it pulls the necessary vac in seconds). http://www.amazon.com/Robinair-15310-VacuMaster-Single-Stage/dp/B005CO9GX6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1343111350&sr=8-7&keywords=vacuum+pump

u/SemenInYourStool · 9 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

+1 on the big shot. This has been my favorite torch, and not having to hold a button the whole time I'm heating my rig has been awesome. Well worth it.

u/Infant-Blender · 0 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

They make some pretty good battery powered ones that are small enough to fit in some chambers.

Just make sure you know the measurements of each before you buy, or you'll learn the hard way.

EDIT: here is an example

u/etownrawx · 3 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

You really do need to get all these factors right for light colored oil. The colder the initial wash, the cleaner the material, the fresher the material, the quicker the wash... the less necessary filtration will be. That said, if you need to filter it, pouring through a coffee filter doesn't really do much for color.

Take it easy on the AC, it can color your solution a bit red. Use it sparingly just to remove the green.

Freeze everything. If you can run the filter inside a freezer, do it.

-Bentonite catches water soluble stuff like lipids and waxes.

-Activated Carbon bonds to the chlorophyll

-DE/Celite catches the AC which holds onto the chlorophyll, along with other smallest contaminants

-The filter disk retains all this material in the funnel

I used a set up like this when I open blasted, the ball valves create a very good seal without tape, ratcheted down tightly with a wrench.
You'll need a inverted flare adapter to use these valves, to convert the male end to NPT threads.

I would always place a filter before the material, to filter out potential paint particles (heard claims that it scrapes paint into the butane) but I never found any paint, and I used both coffee filters and 25 micron mean screens.

I liked can tappers, as it provides a good deal more pressure for open blasting. I used less butane.

Thanks for all the replies! So let make sure I'm getting this info correct, it's fine to dab with Stainless Steel? I would not be endangering my health by dabbing with these? http://www.amazon.com/SE-DD312-12-Piece-Stainless-Carvers/dp/B000SVRSRY/ref=acc_glance_sg_ai_ps_t_2

u/Dr_Dabber_Drew · 3 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

You need a quartz banger, a directional flow carb cap, and a nice butane torch if you've got the extra money for it. A propane torch will work in its place will just mess up your nail quicker. Also qtip the nail in between every hit with q tips dipped in isopropyl alcohol to keep the nail as clean as possible. Will provide better dab experience. Look up "low temp dabs" on youtube, don't ruin your concentrates by taking hot dabs. Hope this helps, happy dabbin!

Just Use PTFE Sheets BHogart sells fiberglass reinforced stuff for cheapest. PTFE is totally solvent proof and wont dissolve into your extract like silicone. Additionally its used in medical devices because bacteria have trouble adhering to its surface because its so non stick.

Oilslick sells 16' rolls for 1$ a foot at alot of smoke shops.

BHOgart Has larger rolls of the stuff that is fiberglass reinforced for better heat transfer, Strength, and so it "always lays flat"( so you dont get paper curls on the sides of the sheet in the oven).

I dont think the can tapper would function properly with that ball valve. I think you need one like this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014JC9HI/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That adapter should work I think but I got this one and make sure you remove the internals that are not needed in our application and would reduce the flow of tane

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056ODEP8/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And this is my can tapper

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009XT7NY/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

When you use a can tapper correctly the puncture point is at the bottom corner of the can so all of the butane can flow out as a liquid. Since the flow rate is increased the pressure inside the tube also increases and with my setup running two can tappers I increase the pressure even more.

u/iBeenie · 2 pointsr/CannabisExtracts

Well I'm not the person you replied to, but I bought a cheap infrared thermometer and it has trouble getting a steady reading (especially on metal). Sometimes the temp fluctuates rapidly by hundreds of degrees when I'm holding it still on the same surface. This is the one I bought on Amazon It has great ratings, so maybe mine is just a fluke. Never bothered to comment or write to the seller or anything (it was so cheap, I just didn't bother).

Assuming Butane is your solvent, blast onto glass or Teflon if you don't want to scrape.

If you scrape when the dish is warm with a clean/sharp blade, it will come off a lot easier.

I went with all of them. Skip the SkilletToolz, they basically put a sticker on this set to charge you $10 each instead of total.

Next time, this is more fit for /r/dailydabbers.

You can get one at Harbor Freight for under $100 but I was able to get a deal on this one through my employer so I paid about $100 for it...

Get one of those faucet asperators

14$ http://www.amazon.com/Nalgene-6140-0010-Aspirator-Polypropylene-Threading/dp/B003OBYNBO

Just make sure your hose water isn't going down the drain - because you don't want your butane down there :P

My friend used a Black & Decker Griddle, purchased at Target for $30.

If you put the heat setting on 150 (there is a "minimal" heat setting but it just cools off when chosen) and place an aluminum provac on it with oil slick on that. The surface of the oil slick hovers between 110-125

Blazer Big Shot GT 8000

I got one of those and never looked back. Went through several of those shitty creme brûlée torches people mention. This one has been lasting me for months and months of constant use with no signs of breaking down anytime soon. Make sure not to skimp on butane either. If you're gonna spend 9.99 on a torch, you're going to get what you pay for: crap.

Video for the torch, if anyone is interested

BEST butane extraction tool (cant wait to see someone tell me otherwise):

this is a proper setup besides the oven is made in china and is finicky sometimes

Chamber and pump - $235

Glass extract tube that holds 60 grams - $40 A larger tube may be necessary, I don't know how big your pants are but Amazon has tons of different sizes to choose from.

25 micron Mean Screenz - $20

Thermometer gun - $17

PTFE sheet to blast onto - $20

I use these rubber gaskets to attach my screens on and tighten a hose clamp over the gasket - $15 So the order will be glass tube, screen, gasket, hose clamp.

Presto griddle - $23

This gives you a total of $370 with plenty room for shipping, butane, and anything else you may need.

as its been said blasting straight to metal is bad. also blasting straight to parchment is bad. use PTFE slick sheets. its reusable to a point and you never have to scrape again!
