>TL:DR - The Cards model worked for 15 years, but it's time for a change, as seen both within the organization and through other Blue Chip organizations.

  1. The times have changed.
I get that in the mid 00's development was a much different process, and it was run well by guys from the Matheny-era who took a traditional approach. Saber wasnt widespread, advance video, scouting and technology was not to the point where it could contend with reps

If you haven't you should check out The Cardinals Way by Howard Megdal. The team was innovative in a lot of ways in regards to the use of sabrmetrics and development in the mid-'00s. Also, there has been a lot of change in those departments since then, unfortunately a lot of that has been because of "brain drain" with guys like Luhnow, Mejdal, Kantrovitz, etc leaving the org.

I have St. Louis Cardinals: Past & Present which covers their history up to 2009 and features a lot of photos. Good gift material.

Another interesting book is Jon David Cash's Before They Were Cardinals: Major League Baseball in Nineteenth-Century St. Louis. It came out in 2002 originally (Achorn cites Cash in his bibliography for his book).

Cash's book has a wider scope than the 1883 season, though, since it gives some good St. Louis baseball background from the '70s on and goes through the 1890s.

I've always been a big Pen guy. Love my Zebra with .4mm ink.

BUT

I've been using crappy mechanical pencils lately, and I'm starting to question my chirography choice. Does anyone have any experience with good mechanical pencil's? Are they good for note taking?

I actually have two. I got the newer one because it has a brown rice setting. The older one still works great, so I have a backup.

I just know it's a designer she likes. The other stuff I've gotten her for Christmas she basically picked out so I want something to be a surprise.

Oh shit son! The Samson Q2u is on Prime Day Deal. This is the best entry-level podcasting mic and I strongly recommend it for anyone on a budget who wants to do anything with their voice online.

If you don't have a mic and you want to be on the podcast with me and Hack, this is the mic to get.

I am a stickler for audio quality, so...

So, I ordered one of these on a bit of a whim, and it arrived today. Turns out it's actually kind of badass. Seriously heavy construction. The only problem is the curve is kind of backwards to really make the blade comfortable to use, but that's a pretty small gripe.

Drywall anchors are the things I was thinking of, they supposedly hold 75 lbs each if there's no stud available.

P.s. I got wall mounts for super cheap on amazon and it came with drywall anchors
