I'm pretty sure PNY is still selling theirs through amazon. You can give them a call for clarification if you like as well.

edit

Also the 1080ti should be landing March-ish, which will push the price of current cards down further especially in the used market.

So a friend of mine is running an Asus Rampage VI Extreme on the latest bios update and says his plx issues aren't a problem anymore. So when I get a chance, I'll throw that into the build list with a note about the PLX bug.

It's not a 7 card board like the SAGE, but getting confirmation from someone actually on the intel HEDT platform that they're build doesn't have issues is somthing at least.

*edit - I should add - that’s an X299 board so Whatever chip you’re using in the X99 board you’ll likely need to update as well. If you need an X99 board recommendation I can try to dig one of those up as well.

Yeah as sage says.
To be honest I haven't actually done any character animation in C4D, but I want to get into that this summer.
But what I would do is start out with basic walk sequences, try to get some emotion in the moves. As far as character animating goes (I have done it in 2d by the way) I can highly recommend this book.

I'm not one to give advice on PC builds but I almost went with the 7700K and considered the 8700K for the viewport speed. I decided to go with the threadripper because you can still overclock them to 4GHz and I do plan on going with 4 gpus in the future. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, probably won't for another couple of weeks.

EDIT: I have read that the 7700K gives you the best single thread performance for both C4D and AE and they are on sale at Amazon.ca

I think that's beyond a list of common subjects clients ask for, and I'd recommend someone who is interested in "making it pop" to learn these:

Does the book show animation sequences? What I mean is, a sequence of images and each image tells you what frame the movement shown is supposed to happen at. If so, I may buy it. The only book I've ever bought having to do with this type of work is this. Digital Tutors has a few really good courses on animation, but they don't have any tuts on c-motion which pisses me off. Although there's an awesome tut for c-motion on vimeo.

Nah dude, it's gotta have some emotion behind it for it to be art.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Story-Art-Pocket-Edition/dp/0714847038

"Art has been characterized in terms of mimesis, expression, communication of emotion, or other values." -wiki

Otherwise we are just creating bullshit that looks cool. Some stuff that looks interesting could have some intrinsic emotion to it from the mood of the colors, extreme movement, and composition. But I don't see that here. Check the book out if you haven't, it does a good job of explaining how art started and why certain things are and aren't.

You certainly can find a mobo with pretty much anything, but that will be crazy expensive, are you fine with that? Also, the 1xxx versions from nVidia are a considerable upgrade from the 9xx, so you should see that

Ok so, either you can buy a ready to go external hard drive or you can use a standard hard drive + a little sata to usb adapter

Since the computers at your school are Apple you would need to install the macos version of C4D on the drive, but it's still doable.

Hm, you might be looking at more general books then, so you could also ask /r/computergraphics or /r/3dmodeling.

Also this might be of your interest, and you should look trough this this list too.

There's also the C4D Beginners Guide - from this list.
