Yeah I think you're right, it seems kind of like a rubber band effect. I've noticed the plateau before, and I've even noticed a slight boost in income before when I bump up my spending, just never seen such a drastic jump before. Then again, this was the first time I spent 13 million in less than 10 seconds 🔥💰

As far as population goes, it's probably less impressive than it sounds, I'm using a few mods. The one that allows you to purchase all 25 squares is nice so that you have plenty of room to expand; I also use PopBalanceMod which more accurately scales the number of Cims in a given building, based on its size. That means your low density houses are actually low density (4-6 Cims), and high density residential is actually high density (60-200 Cims depending on building size). Assuming you're able to deal with the extra traffic burden, this mod makes it much easier to pack people in.

This is actually my first city to break through the 250k barrier. It grew slowly up to 200k and I was stuck there for a bit, to make a long story short I did a lot of optimizations to my transportation infrastructure and since then it's been growing pretty quickly. I went from 200k to 600k much more quickly than 0 to 200k, I'm not really sure how I ended up with so much money but that probably helped..

As for performance, check if you have any buggy mods running. Assuming you have a reasonable GPU in there too you should be running smoothly. I'm on a retina iMac right now which is doing fine, occasionally I'll get slowdowns. My Windows machine just had an i5, 32GB ram, and this GPU, it was always silky smooth.

Dropping in a new graphics card is pretty simple, and hard to mess up. I understand not wanting to bother, but I generally encourage everyone to give it a try.

If not, that's fine. I would suggest this system, as a solid, pre-built gaming computer.

I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Performance-Gaming-CH-9000026-NA/dp/B00B5QLS2C

It has better placement of buttons in my opinion, letting you grip it more comfortably. The biggest downside to me is the mouse wheel. The Logitech mice generally have much better mouse wheels that can switch between clicky and smooth modes (G600 doesn't have this). There's a white and a black version, the black one is cheaper for some reason.

Edit: Another very good option (I'd personally go with this one).

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G700s-910-003584-Rechargeable-Gaming/dp/B00BFOEY3Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425690496&sr=8-1&keywords=Logitech+G700s

This is very similar to the mouse I use myself, the Logitech Performance MX, but upgraded with added gaming features. Has a bunch of buttons, the mouse wheel I was speaking of, and it both wired and wireless (charges while wired).

I currently own both the Corsair M90 (older version of the M95, mostly cosmetic differences) and the Performance MX, and I'm almost drooling over the G700s.

They're actually shells and new buttons! Here they work fine but feel a little bigger than stock joycons but still fit fine. Took me about 3 hours to complete

My laptop can run this 200k population city pretty good. I can't increase the simulation speed anymore and it isn't quite 60 fps. But at lower populations, like under 100k; it is smooth as butter.

Happy City, I think. I'll try to find an Amazon link.

EDIT: Here it is on Amazon.

u/krypticned · 2 pointsr/CitiesSkylines

I'm not sure if it would work but http://amzn.com/B00GIGGS6A. Could be a really good gaming option for you.

I honestly don't game or do anything intensive (like video conversion) without a cooling pad. You may not notice big sudden drops, it may just never get to it's full potential. Running hot won't necessarily break things; your computer will shut down before it actually damages things catastrophically but it's also not the best for your computer. Plus it'll get too hot to touch on a lot of models.

Given how expensive it is to replace a laptop if a part burns out due to heat or stress versus a cooling pad being like $25 USD (this is just an example), I would buy one and use it under your laptop any time it's near a source of heat like your lap or a heater, flat on a desk, or when you're doing anything that makes the fans audible. I use my laptop mainly on my desk and leave it resting on it without it running all day because it helps get airflow underneath to where the heat gets trapped.

When I have one like the one I linked instead of one that just stays flat, I'm going to use it to raise my screen to a more ergonomic height as well.

Pick up 4 sticks of 8 GB ram and slap it in. Corsair Vengeance LPX is having a heck of a deal on Amazon right now, but you'll have to buy two sets of 2x8 because the 4x8 set is more than double price, even though it's the same thing.

Double check your setup accepts DDR4 ram though before you pull the trigger.

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB kit (2x8GB)

Woah man chill. We all know vanilla C:S without a LUT looks like overexposed butthole tho. If you're looking for monitors, I've been really happy with this guy

Get a new PC.

256SSD is a good choice, consider PCI-E instead of sata for faster thruput (example http://www.amazon.com/OWC-240GB-Mercury-Accelsior_E2-Express/dp/B00D1TCGL8) .

16GB total of DDR3 should be enough.

a new CPU/Mobo is needed, so look around at options.

I have been using a nvidia gtx 970 and i think it works petty well, but when my city is over 100k population im getting jitter-lag even on low graphical settings.

Cities is a powerful game and can eat all your resources if you let it.

Is this the 5567? Be aware this laptop seems to use a low quality TN panel, much like the stock option on the Inspiron 7567 (used to be the only FHD option until they added the IPS upgrade option). All these display quality complaints would apply to it: https://www.reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/comments/5ozrqq/warning_the_new_inspiron_15_display_is_indeed/

If you're in the USA, this Ideapad 700 is probably just about all-around better. IPS 1920x1080 display with decent contrast and viewing angles, better GPU (GT 950M, DDR3 variant but the core is faster than the R7 M445), faster CPU (despite being a generation behind; U-series vs HQ series means a lot more than i5 vs i7 or 6th gen vs 7th gen), similar battery capacity, more RAM (But 8GB is probably plenty anyway).

For a faster GPU and also SSD storage, this is the Dell I would pick. Inspiron 7559 with IPS display and GTX 960M for $699.

If not, which country are you buying from, and do you have a link to the listing? I might be able to find another alternative recommendation. Or, check out /r/SuggestALaptop/.

Soooo I run my i5 processor at 4.4 Ghz while playing the game. And I have four of these: (two in front fior intake, one in back and one up top for exhaust) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026ZPFCK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can't hear my machine. And it sits next to me on the ground.

u/Hazard262 · 5 pointsr/CitiesSkylines

looking forward to it, maybe invest in one of those mouse mats with the rest on it. something like this; https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/r0s/Mouse-Kensington-62386-Comfort-Gel-Pad-Black/B00065W4VC

I found this laptop on amazon man, it’s not a bad deal and meets the requirements of the game, shop around tho of course man, don’t buy this just because I’m suggesting it
