Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on promoting your transferable skills. Also, don't be afraid to list family caregiver as a career / fill in your resume gaps. It's perfectly understandable that someone may have to exit the traditional workforce to care for a loved one for an extended period. That can teach you a whole new skill set that employers value.
I'd say your next task would be to start networking to get conversations with people who currently work at companies you are targeting. I'm a fan of what was Jim Grant's group, which became https://www.northcoastjobseekers.org/. It's a free career networking group that meets regularly and focuses on networking, promoting yourself, etc.
Jim wrote a book that's a very good guide to searching for a job, https://www.amazon.com/Get-Job-Compensation-You-Want/dp/143921249X. It was very helpful to me last time I was in between roles.
If you want to discuss more, feel free to PM.
Wow, really disappointing that there's no where to get it here, but on the other hand, it's really not that hard to make. It's basically a pancake with tons of stuff in it. The most important part is having the proper sauce, which you can find at any decent asian market. It's helpfully called Okonomi sauce. Otafuku is the most common brand (sometimes it comes in a bag ). For bonus points, you can use Kewpie mayo from Japan, although honestly plain mayo works just fine. It's been a while since I made it, so I don't have a go-to recipe, but you can put just about anything in it, so long as you have a good base and plenty of cabbage. Here's one you could try from one of my favorite food sites. Good luck! And don't skimp on the sauce!
In the summer you can literally go any day to a free music performance (Mentor Rocks Tuesday, Wade Oval Wednesday, Edgewater Live Thursday, Euclid Beach Live Friday, etc.). They may not always be rock bands, but often are. In addition to the Porchfest, Hessler Street Fair is going on this weekend.
The Grog Shop, Beachland, Agora, etc. are smaller concert venues that have concerts year round in addition to concerts at the Q, House of Blues, Nautica, Blossom. This is a much larger number of live venues than cities of comparable size (and even more than larger cities, such as in Houston). Historically there were underground/smaller concert locations such as Speak in Tounges, Barking Spider, Euclid Tavern (the latter two being recent RIPs in University Circle).
The history of rock in Cleveland also includes the market serving as a test ground for tracks in the USA before doing a nationwide release. This book has a great history of WMMS - voted the best rock station for 9 straight years by Rolling Stone (when radio and magazines still mattered) - https://www.amazon.com/Buzzard-Inside-Cleveland-Radio-Memoir/dp/1598510517 Wish that WMMS wasn't a bought out, generic, I heart radio crap station now
I agree w/ @richard_cranium - that the average Clevelander doesn't know this history. And likely doesn't go out to concerts of underground/local bands at the grog that much. But rock has a history here and still lives on.
> I screwed up the settings by accident, but it's not that bad.
Here's an honest critique, not to be mean, but you seem to have an interest in taking good photos. I started on a Canon 60D, which shares the same image sensor as the T4i. All of my images of Cleveland were shot with that camera.
This picture has two/three things technically wrong with it; focus, blur, and grain. You can solve all three of those issues by shooting on a tripod.
Shooting on a tripod will allow you to take longer exposure than if you were shooting handheld (because it doesn't move). Because you can shoot longer, you can also stop your aperture down a bit. Most lenses are sharper when the aperture is slightly closed a bit (around f/5.6 - f/8, but vary's depending on lens). You will also be able to lower your iso, which will help avoid noise/grain issues.
Also, when shooting longer exposures, its best to avoid any camera movement or interaction at all. You can buy a "remote shutter release" to avoid touching the shutter button. Also, use "mirror lockup", to avoid movement from the mirror swinging when a picture is taken.
I encourage you to read how to take clear nighttime image, find a solid tripod, and attempt to retake the picture. Part of the fun of photography is growing in your skill and this is a great opportunity to do so.
If you are really anti-medication, then look into cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). Both are counseling techniques that are clinically proven to be effective against depression. Regular exercise (ideally at least 30 minutes most days of the week) is also clinically proven to be effective for depression. You might find that to be enough and you may decide that you don't want medication. If not, you'll still have medications as an option.
There are various physical problems that can manifest as depression. You may want to talk to your doctor about those just to rule those out.
Here are a couple good books that explain the counseling techniques listed above.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0380810336?pc_redir=1411719113&robot_redir=1
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1609618955/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1411750842&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40
If one of those techniques appeals to you more than the other, be sure to ask the therapist you choose if that's part of their practice.
Keep in mind what you want when looking for a practitioner. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have taken some counseling classes. They are going to strongly prefer medication. Psychologists are completely different. They have a doctorate in psychology and are very good at talk therapy. They can't write prescriptions but can refer you for that if needed. Some work in a practice with a psychiatrist so this referral may be pretty simple. Social workers may not have as much formal education as a psychologist when it comes to talk therapy, but they tend to be cheaper and they also tend to have a lot of good practical experience. They're the best choice if you want practical advice from someone who has probably seen just about everything.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
I live about 2 hours east of you and we had one of the worst winters ever back in 2007 or 8 - subzero temperatures for weeks, more snow than I'd seen since I was a kid, and the cold, the biting, horrific cold - I could not stand it any longer, so here is what I did:
Coat - spent the money and bought myself a Columbia ski jacket. It has a lining you can zip out, is breathable when you get too warm, and is flexible enough to shovel snow in.
Gloves - again, ski gloves. I got mittens b/c gloves never, ever keep my hands warm. The palms are leather and pretty grippy for shovels, snow brushes, etc.
Hat - Tight knit, felt or fleece lined. I always hated hats. After that winter, hats were my best friend. I even got one of these mofo's on clearance from an outdoor store last year.
Boots - I went to Amazon and did some research on these, because I have never found a boot that can keep my feet warm. I went with these. Note the "Minus 40 Degrees" rating in the description. Waterproof is a MUST.
So here it is, 2014, and I still use this winter wear. In that respect it is "cost effective," but the upfront cost was about $300 (half of which was the boots). Everything was pretty expensive, but it was well worth it. Best of luck to you!
>Trying to get into coffee at home, looking for shops that offer gear, like a grinder, French press, and kettles, stuff like that.
You're better off ordering online. Get a burr hand grinder. Electric grinders can burn the beans and you can control how course the grinds are with the hand grinder.
Get an Aeropress for espresso. Or can also be used to make regular coffee. This is better than a french press, imo.
By hand grinding fresh beans and perfecting using the aeropress, you can't achieve a better cup of coffee at home.
Bullet three is exactly backward. Shaker Heights high school used to be ranked in the 90th percentile, but as the mix changed to the one you quote, the Percentage of Students Passing All Four Parts of the Ohio Graduation Test dropped to 67.4%, the high school stopped being one of the most desirable, and white flight has and is occurring.
I agree with you that Clevelanders do NOT fear integrated education, but people value education and will chase these rankings. So if an influx of black students changes a highschool's pass rate, you will see white flight based on the change in status of the highschool. It's also worth noting that the high desirability of these schools is a draw which creates demand for real-estate and as the rankings decline, people will abandon the community as it is a precursor to declining home values, which is where most of the middle-class has the majority of their wealth, exasperating the "white flight" scenario.
There was a Black American Students in An Affluent Suburb: A Study of Academic Disengagement written about the phenomenon.
The author John U. Ogbu was ostricized by the black community because of it.
I actually have great advice on this! I live in Willowick, which is east of Cleveland. My fiance and I are cable cutters as well, and we have put up an antenna on top of our house. We had a very difficult time getting 19 and 8. After some analysis, we found out that 19 and 8 are pointing different ways, and are different signals (one is VHF the other UHF). Using TV Fool's TV signal locator is a good first start to determine exact pointing locations. Here is the link for that:
https://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29
We also decided to use a preamplifier to boost signal. I do not know if this will help, but I will list all components I used to to my setup. I know it might seem overkill, but I probably have around 40-50 channels, so it works.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C4XVOOC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013CGNGY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00
I know what I wrote was overkill, but the main takeaway is that you need to determine where 8 and 19 are located. Also, I would strongly recommend that your antenna be outside. The higher up and the clearer the pathway, the better the antenna will work.
I wouldnt worry too much about parking outside unless you have some fancy convertible. In any event, the salt used to treat the roads in the winter will do much more damage to your car than any ice or snow that accumulates on top while your vehicle is parked outside. It takes a little work to brush the snow off in the morning, but do yourself a favor and get a good snow scraper. Something with a big rectangular plow thing on the end, like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075TWG8N1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xxrSAbVTX87FF
Edit: Also, it certainly doesn't snow everyday in the winter! (Maybe 1/4 of winter days, tops.)
You're garage!
Seriously, this is one of the of the higher value maintenance tasks most people can do at home. It can easily save you $200 and much more if you're also changing rotors. Just use the jack from the car if you don't have a floor jack. The only thing you might need that most people don't have are jack stands (safety first). You might also need some grease for the pins and the back of the pads, but otherwise it's pretty simple tools. You might also need an impact driver if you need to replace the rotors as well (I'm not sure if Yukon rotors are bolted on at OEM). Like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NPUJYE
Here is a decent guide:
http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/GM-Chevrolet-Tahoe-Front-Brake-Pads-Replacement-Guide/
Cool project. The soldering should be pretty simple, and it's fairly easy to learn. I would recommend buying a soldering project kit, something silly like this: amazon link that you don't mind messing up and learning on.
If you want to save some money and only have one device your best bet is to go with something like this if you use wired it will be comparable to using just the Motorola Surfboard SB6141(which my main PC is and it works fantastic!). The wifi will be the cheaper component of this device and provide about the same service as the modem/router combo they rent to you.
The reason you'd want a separate device for your wifi is if you stream video off the hard drive of one computer to your house to the TV or another computer. If you don't really do that and just use it to browse or stream video from the internet, you'll be fine with the combo sets.
interesting! me and my buddy just bought fly rods for the exact same purpose. I live within a stones through of Rocky River.
