I know people don't recommend amazon to buy cubes, but I'm going to link some of them there and you can figure out where to buy them if you choose to do so. This is the Fangshi. It is the same size as your GuHong. Thisis the one I have and I love it. It's slightly smaller, which I like, and it has a cool "illusion" look. As for 4x4s, the shengshou is a great cube for beginners as it is very cheap yet a very good cube in general. It locks a little, but it used to be considered the best 4x4. Because of its low price you can see whether you like solving 4x4 before getting a more expensive one. Often considered the best cube on the market, the Moyu Aosu is quite expensive, but it also comes in a stickerless version which is awesome! I just ordered one last week and it's suppose to come in tomorrow; I'm super excited!

Hey! The question might sound a bit stupid for this subreddit, but still wondering. I'm seeing all those "All praise the valk 3" posts and "The valk 3 is so fast" memes, how worth buying it is? I'm just cubing for fun, but trying to get a bit faster, learning F2L right now and my best times is around 30 seconds.

Also, if it is worth buying one, where should I get it? (for Canada).

Thanks! :)

If this can help, my current cube is : https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01FU5V5OE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Like others said, you're going to need square 1 algorithms, and 2x2 algorithms. The links I just supplied you with are considered the best of their type (best square-1, best 2x2) and I recommend both of them.

Also, you're probably going to look in to getting some lube. There's heaps of info on lube everywhere, and it's all pretty good. Check out Traxxas differential oil, and Lubix.

Some puzzles you may consider getting, too:

-Moyu Aosu 4x4

-SS 5x5

-SS Pyraminx

-Dayan Megaminx

-Rubik's Magic (no longer a WCA event, because it's the same sequence of moves. Still pretty fun to mess around with, and make shapes out of)

-If you're looking for something really different, check out some cubiods like this. Ignore the bad review, it's great. Also really good to get someone into shapeshifting cuboids.

Wow, this is my second time this week mentioning Jeff Verasano. He wrote a book in the 80's called "Jeff Consuers the Cube in 45 Seconds, and You Can Too!" His book & method were very popular back in the day. You can buy a copy here, though I've never read it.

Jeff is a really interesting guy as well. Years ago he devoted himself to making authentic Neapolitan pizza. He owns a pizza place here in Atlanta now, and I think it is the best pizza I've ever had. He wrote like a 30,000 word manifesto on how to make perfect pizza. He's a touch eccentric.

Both can be great cubes. What is your preference? The Shuang Ren is a much dryer, faster feeling cube, while the AoLong is a smooth, clicky feeling puzzle. Performance wise, the AoLong is a better cube, but a Shuang Ren is better for people who prefer a cube that feels slightly more stable.

Oh, and for lube, Traxxas 50k weight Differential oil. Buy a syringe like this one and use it to apply the lube. Hope I helped!

Edit: You may want to visit this page to consider other possible options. There's a world of cubes out there.

I buy almost all of my cubes off of Amazon. Here's my favorites under $10.

I'm avoiding standard cubic / cuboid puzzles because those are easy to find.

Axis Cube: Cheap, fun, and difficult. It's also tiled, which is nice.

Mirror Cube: Turns amazingly well, and it's a challenge to solve the first time around.

ShengShou Pyraminx Clicky, adjustable, and fun to play with.

YJ Weel Puzzle A harder version of the 2x2x3.

The thunderclap mini is very good. Stickerless and black. If you're OK with not amazon, you can get it here in the US for decent fast shipping and a dollar less, or at CubeZZ (black, stickerless) for the cheapness and free, long shipping. Alternatively, Zcube is always great for the absolute cheapest prices, not including shipping.

Or if that's too much there's the Guansu, definitely not as good as the Thunderclap though.

Ha!

Good puzzle. I have it and enjoy it. By the way, it is also called the Master Trajber's Octahedron, or just Trajber's 4x4.

Cubezz.com is the cheapest I see available and they are usually pretty quick. Probably the best bet.

Wallbuys.com used to have it slightly cheaper, but its not listed there anymore.

Hknowstore.com has it, but not quite as cheap and the shipping tends to be a bit slower than cubezz.com

Fastest but not cheapest would be this listing on amazon since it is fulfilled by amazon, so two-day shipping with prime.

That first link under the ThinkMax brand says it is shipped and sold by Seattle puzzles. They have a direct website, but that puzzle isnt even listed, so I'd question if the amazon listing is accurate about being in stock.

It depends on your budget but I would suggest getting a 2x2-5x5 bundle. I buy my cubes off amazon so I can't speak for other stores but you can get a reasonably high quality one for fairly cheap.

If you're in the US, I'd recommend something like this: https://www.amazon.com/CuberSpeed-Speedcubing-JiaoShi-Stickerless-Classroom/dp/B06VWRC6BV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492687899&sr=8-2&keywords=2x2-5x5+bundle

If you're in the UK I'd recommend something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vdealen-Bundle-Stickerless-Smooth-Puzzles/dp/B01HI9HN14/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1492688100&sr=8-7&keywords=6x6+stickerless

I have a Mondrian 3x3x3 that I love solving. It's just a v-cube 3 inside but it's still a pretty item and a fun solve.

u/c4ctus · 2 pointsr/Cubers

I'd recommend this mastermorphix. It turns really really really smooth. I'm sure there are better ones on the market, but I'm pretty happy with this one.

u/itsmrmarlboroman2u · 2 pointsr/Cubers

I'm still an absolute beginner (Still one algorithm away from learning the beginner method). I kinda did it backwards. I bought this ShengShou on amazon because it was crazy cheap. I bought a Rubik's brand cube last night because I wanted to feel the difference... The difference is HUGE. The ShengShou is leaps and bounds better, and is currently $2.55 on Amazon, whereas it was like $10 for the Rubik's cube.

I'm new to lubing cubes, and so I got my feet wet by buying the cheapest all-silicone oil on Amazon I could find, this 1666 Traxxas oil.

How would this stuff compare to other brands? My cubes feel smoother with it, but they also are a little sluggish.

I have a DaYan Zanchi and a FangShi shuanren that I'd like to relube. My times are 60-90 seconds, usually. What would y'all recommend? EDIT: I meant to ask... what lube should I get instead of this stuff?

Thanks!

Phil, I don't know if this is the case as well, but when I was buying my first speedcube on Amazon the seller's video was this one, with no credit to Chris. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/CuberSpeed-Thunderclap-stickerless-MoFangGe-Leiting/dp/B01DJFVULK/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=qiyi+thunderclap&qid=1554228220&s=wireless&sr=8-6

i got this lamp it was on sale when i bought it though. There's a ton more on amazon exactly like it for 15-20$ Cad

u/infernon_ · 1 pointr/Cubers

I recommend 30k or 50k and some of this (350 cst which is the equivalent of 0.35k)

u/HipHop_4_Life · 2 pointsr/Cubers

Thanks for that advice. I already ordered this which should be the same as this .

In the amazon description, the one I ordered, it says it's the mf3s not the mf3rs. However on the other description it says it is the mf3rs. I'm excepting it to be mf3rs because in this video it shows that the mf3rs is the one with the logo just like the packaging shows.

Only thing I'm confused about is the difference between the two. I know the mf3rs is better but why/how? What does the r and s stand for?
