I cut my hair for the first time yesterday. I just bought the Wahl Elite Pro High Performance Haircut Kit. It's actually $45 dollars, but I got it because it seemed to have everything I might need: comb, scissors, guards, even one of those cape thingies (which I don't bother using since I just pop in the shower after anyways).
After having used it, I'm pretty happy with it. I also have no idea what I'm doing, so I guess take that with a grain of salt :) But the clippers have a lifetime warranty and the blades have a 5 year. I figured for $45 it would pay for itself after ~9 months, so why not.
Wahl is a great brand. This one comes with all the gaurds you would need. I dont know how to make a link lol Wahl Color Pro Complete Hair Cutting Kit, #79300-400T https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JNQSIQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_N0D6AbKFH6619
This is what I use, it's so easy. Zoom in on the first pic and look at the "right" and "left" guards. They fade from about a 3 to a 1, I just run it around the crown of my head and I have a perfect simple fade. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D9K7TN5/
First of thanks your response.
What do you mean "zero gapped"?
What about this one? https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Color-Complete-Cutting-79300-400T/dp/B000JNQSIQ
Thanks!
I started out with a 6, then worked my way down to a three. Then I used the slanted guards that are in this set that I bought. But for the most part I kinda just winged it.
I'm looking at getting this Wahl 79600-2101 Lithium Ion Cordless Clipper.
I know I'm a little late, but you could go real old-school and pick up some manual hair clippers:

This is the set that I have.

I just bought the Oster combs - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001T0HHB0
The ones that came with the Fast Feed just slip on. You can use them to see if they work for you and then order the combs later.
I recommend the Oster Fast Feed Clippers
I used a couple Wahl clippers and they were always cheaply made and fucked up my hair. But the Oster set felt solid and has held up to 2 years of cutting twice a month.
I'm in the military so I'm giving myself a mid or high fade that looks crisp with these. Just a heads up, you're probably going to fuck up. But don't be discouraged if you do. It's hair, it comes back. Practice will give you precision so just keep at it.
