Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man
http://marvel.com/comics/series/13831/ultimate_comics_spider-man_2011_-_present
It's a good place to start with Miles Morales as he's a very well-developed young lad who actually feels guilty for Peter Parker's death in the ultimate universe's continuity after receiving powers much like Peter's and yet not utilizing them. He then dons the original Spidey suit out of naivety not knowing that people at large considered him a mockery of the original Spiderman, as a common theme for Miles Morales is finding himself after taking on the mantle of Spiderman. It actually does address detractor's concerns that this would just be another "black-washed superhero" and goes in-depth into his familial relations with family members already related to the superhero continuity in same way.
That's all I can say without spoiling too much as there are really good plot developments with his family that contrast greatly with the original Peter Parker's origin story.
Birds of Prey, Vol. 1: Of Like Minds
http://www.amazon.com/Birds-Prey-Vol-Like-Minds/dp/140120192X
Any issue written by Gale Simone is a must read in my opinion. She also writes for the better Deadpool comics imo. There's a sense of wry, sardonic humor in the comics she writes for and it transfers well over into Birds of Prey. I even have a list of the greatest Gale Simone comics ever written if you want to pick and choose from that later on.
The comic itself brings Oracle, Huntress, and Black Canary together to fight the villains known as Savant and Creote (the latter in later issues I believe) whom have blackmail Oracle in order to find out the secret identity of Batman. If you like a comic more so centered around strong character building than overall plot/action (which were decent), this comic is for you. The series however accelerates after this issue quite well. Oracle, being confined to her wheelchair while being the most integral and intelligent of the group, sends out her birds of prey so to speak in the form of Huntress and Black Canary which I found was a really fun dynamic as they often have mixed views on how to handle the situation. Oracle being trained by the Batman with his set of ethics while operating from the sidelines to provide background information the team needs, Huntress who has legitimately murdered mafia members in the past being more violent and hostile towards enemies, and Black Canary who is more impulsive and stubborn to Barbara at first but in time, they become inseparable. Dinah being the legs and physically active extension of Barbara and Barbara being Dinah's voice of wisdom and source of intel with both becoming fast friends.
Spider-Gwen... I would recommend for people who already read the Spiderverse event where multiple Spidermen had to fight off cross-dimensional vampires as it's there that her origins story exists. Like the 1st issue starts off assuming you read that issue so it's going to be heavily confusing for new readers, but the style is nice and Gwen is a more blunt version of Spiderman than Peter. So it's really awesome to see how she handles situations differently.
I'm leaving out Batgirl right now and a lot of comics as I'm currently busy atm. But will make a personal message incase you want more comics to get into as I don't want to go too off tangent from the main topic at hand.
Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson and read by Michael Kramer is the best audio book I have listened to. There is a character in it who is a master of disguise and changes his accents as part of his disguises - because of that audio book is great to listen to and adds another layer to the medium. It is part 4 of Mistborn series but you can even read it without before the first trilogy as it is set several hundred years after the events in it.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Alloy-Law-Mistborn-Novel/dp/B0064I1NAS
First Law series by Joe Abercombie were also books that I enjoyed listening to. They are a bit darker then your usual fantasy but characters in it are really great and I enjoyed it a lot.
Also, Discworld books by late Terry Pratchett and Vorkosigan saga by Lois McMaster Bujold are great as audio books as well.
> If you don't want other devices brought into the argument, don't use the argument of 'I can do a lot more on PC'. Obviously it's going to bloat into discussion of 'what should I have in house' rather than what should I game on...
Read context, that is an argument against consoles and none of what you've said pertains to it. It won't go in a discussion of "what should I have in house" since PC vs Console is discussion of just that, PC vs Console. It's like if two people are talking about which car is better then one person goes on to say bicycles are better for your health because the discussion went onto safety/health. Even if it doesn't relate to the PC vs Console discussion, your arguments don't make sense. I've already mentioned and detailed why your argument doesn't make sense so you or whomever can read what's already been typed.
> I don't want to brag: I own quite a few devices (well, I don't have Xbox One - other than that I have all the bases covered). Despite having a top of the line PC, and even having DYI Steam Box. I still find myself using PS4 quite a lot for multi-platform titles. It's not marketing when your mates come around with bunch of beer and you drink your ass off while playing FIFA. I tried it with PC at the turn of generation, next day when I sobered up I drove to store and bought PS4... What else? CoD is a console-only series for me. Same goes for pretty much every racing game (rFactor excluded)... Just to name few examples.
Ok but that doesn't mean consoles are objectively better, your points are subjective which means nothing if you want to compare facts. Sorry if that sounded harsh but so far you've only provided subjective arguments and irrational counterpoints. I can connect my PC to my TV, controllers to my PC and play FIFA on my PC so why would I spend an additional $400 + tax when I can already do that on my PC? If you want to play on the couch and that seems to be the preference for how you play, that's ok. You can do that for both PC and consoles but PCs are objectively better in most, if not everything a console can do. That is why there is an argument with "PCs can do everything a console can do and more", im not just saying it out my ass for the sake of discussion. That is also why I'm refuting your arguments since it makes no sense and contributes to nothing.
> You'd be surprised how much the Steam's cut is. It's less than what the retailer/importer/publisher would get, but still it's not as great as you paint it. There are other benefits for devs - the fact you actually can sell the game is among them.
No I'm not surprised, how do you think indie devs survive like the team that made the Metro: 2033? It's still better in both profits and the control of your own game than trying to get a publisher like EA to agree to sell your game then have them take control of the development of your own game. I'd rather give devs more tools and control of how they publish their game instead of worry about upholding to stockholders expectations. Why are you under the impression that selling games on Steam or Amazon is not that much better compared to retailers like Gamestop when it actually is?
> I'd be hard pressed to find a 1 or more year old game on Steam that's priced equally to console counterpart. That's how it works where I live, although YMMV. Regardless, remember the USofA is not the only place on Earth where gaming happens...
Yeah they're not equal, Steam version or any online PC version will cost less.
PC Tomb Raider:
Steam: $19.99
Amazon: $19.99 and on discount for $7.99 link
Console xbox360/ps3:
xbox360: $19.99 on discount for $17.16
PS3: $49.48
Console Xbone/PS4 (Definitive Edition)
XBone: $41.42
PS4: $52.99
Bioshock Infinite: amazon link
PC:
Steam: $29.99
Amazon: Physical Copy - $39.99 on discount for $11.99, Digital $29.99
xbox360/ps3
xbox360: $19.99 on discount for $15.24
ps3: $19.99
This took like 10 minutes to look for including a bit of formatting. TR cost the same for PC and last generation consoles and $50+ for the definitive edition which is just basically coded for xbone/ps4. So console players have to pay extra to play on the new consoles even though they already paid for one already?
Bioshock Infinite is an interesting one, the PC hard copy cost more but on a bigger discount? Xbox360 is on discount too but is this what you call a discount compared to the PC version? If there was a Xbone and PS4 version, would those have been $40+ with Tomb Raider being an example?
PC games get discounted often in addition to price drops so not only are you getting cheaper games, you can bring out all the visuals at a better framerate than a console can dish out depending on your hardware of course. Even then there are results you can google yourself or go on buildapc subreddit that shows that computer close to $400 can compete with the PS4.
Talking about PC bias when being bias themselves really contradicts doesn't it?
TB, Jesse, and Dodger all talked about this in an old episode of the TGS podcast, and they all pretty much said produce, produce, produce. This is paraphrasing, but it amounted to: Find something unique that you can bring to the table - delivery, humour, editing, content, etc., get a decent microphone if you intend to do voice work, and keep making regular content. It takes months and years to find an audience, but as long as you stick to it, you will build one eventually.
It's also what most top youtubers say. If you're interested you should check out partnersproject! The interviews have a lot of little gems of information, and they talk with people like CorridorDigital and Freddiew.
Hope this helped!
Well, mouse and keyboard worked pretty nice for me, the game controls are extremely customizable, down to individual axes sensitivity and deadzone options. You can essentially tailor them to your exact preference, have in mind that it will take some time to do it though, mainly due to the fact that there are a lot of different controls (and options for them).
The main reason for using a HOTAS setup is actually not competitive play but... simply immersion. You look down and see the pilot in game have his hands on the throttle and stick like you do, and each and every movement that you do is directly translated to his animated hands. Its actually pretty convincing, especially if you use a rift.
Lastly, if you really want ( not need, want^andyouwill ) to get a HOTAS setup in the future, you don't have to pay 100 bucks for it really. You can get something like this (which has a cable to detach the two parts btw) for less than 50$, and you will be able to use it in many, many games (if you are into flying sims, that is). And even if you still want the feeling but don't want to spend the half-smacker, you can get a very decent joystick for less than 30$.
Hope that helps, cheers..C:
For fantasy novels The Gotrek and Felix books are great fun and through out the series you'll learn a great deal about the world and the various races and factions. Therese also the time of legend specifically the ones about Sigmar and Nagash that are great and give you a lot of backstory to arguably the 2 most important characters. Both the sigmar and nagash books where recently reprinted in new omnibus collections. [Nagash omnibus] (https://www.amazon.com/Rise-Nagash-Warhammer-Chronicles/dp/1784966185/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510851276&sr=8-1&keywords=rise+of+nagash)
and Sigmar Omnibus
In the recent VLOG, TB said that he had a lot of problems with swallowing pills. My girlfriend has the same problem so I looked this stuff for her a while ago.
There are two solutions that I found:
I'm not sure any of this is helpful, but maybe TB for some reason didn't search for this and it might help him.
Feel better TB!
Yeah. Another thing people don't understand is Hitler basically blundered his way into victory after victory. For example, his invasion of Poland made his commanders realize how woefully unprepared his army was. Hitler, however, decided that he was ready to invade France. THE ONLY THINGS that allowed this to work was that the French did not expect it and that they gave up too easily.
Things like that are honestly why I enjoyed reading that book I mentioned earlier.
The point that stuck out to me was when she said no one really asks how a character like nathan drake represents men where as all female characters are asked about their representation of women.
I've never really thought about either gender irl representation, just like I've never thought about irl representation of comic book characters, or characters from novels or movies. I watch/read/play to escape reality where I can put myself into the protagonist and save the world or even just matter in a significant way in that world for a bit everyday, when in reality I'm so insignificant to not matter except as a demographic to a marketer.
To be honest I think marketing pink pens for girls much more insulting then anything I've seen in video games. I'm a woman and pink everything or flower everything bugs me more then tit physics in video games.
All that being said I really like the interview format. Keep up the good work TB.
Dunno what his is, but for medium/low-budget I heartily recommend the 5-axis Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X, which has an excellent feel, adjustable stick resistance, can be split into two units (stick and throttle) and is compatible with PC and PS3.
It's amazing. Even if it's not your kind of music, it just suits the game perfectly.
You can listen sample of every song here.
I had exactly the same concerns as you, OP. I got myself a Logitech F710 and I have to say it is just absolute perfect. The weight is just right, very solidly built, the rubberized plastic on the back feels great, and it has the right button layout for me.
If your after something cheap and efficient, this is the one for you http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microphone-Stand-Boom-FREE-Clip/dp/B001ANK7BS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367527006&sr=8-1&keywords=mic+boom
This one is a bit more expensive, but it gives you the ability to position the mic right in front of your mouth, and move it out of the way when not in use with ease http://www.amazon.co.uk/PODCASTER-TABLE-STAND-AND-ARM/dp/B001D7UYBO/ref=sr_1_3?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1367527094&sr=1-3&keywords=mic+boom
The problem is that gifts absolutely do influence people on a subconscious level. Even if you're declaring to yourself that you won't be influenced and will be absolutely fair, your brain simply isn't completely under your control. A big expensive gift is especially problematic.
A book I like which touches on the subject: The Honest Truth About Dishonesty: How We Lie to Everyone--Especially Ourselves
I'm not sure which one he personally uses... But if you want a great 120hz+ monitor, I would have to recommend either THIS or THIS, depending on how much you're willing to spend.
Decently long strategic style games. Arkham horror and small world were by far our favorite. Although we have a lot of time to some game with tiles that played a bit like D&D. I think it was called descent. Yep that's it.
I believe TB uses the Rode PSA-1 found here: http://www.amazon.com/RODE-Swivel-Mount-Studio-Microphone/dp/B001D7UYBO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367547836&sr=8-1&keywords=rode+psa1
A lot of youtubers may also use just a simple guitar boom stand like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Stage-Stands-MS7701-Tripod-Microphone/dp/B000978D58/ref=sr_1_3?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1367547879&sr=1-3&keywords=onstage+boom Please note that this boom stand goes on the floor and not on your desk.
Highly recommend anybody who is interested in the character after playing this to read the ongoing series. Its written by comedian Brian Posehn alongside Gerry Duggan, who used to write for G4's Attack of the Show. The first story arc involves Deadpool fighting former US Presidents.
