It’s not post modern at all :) it’s incredibly relevant and contemporary primatology, as well as some philosophy especially in the realm of ethics. There’s some wonderful books on the this and I’ll list the links for them if you ever want to check them out

In the Shadow of Man (1971) this one is a bit old but incredible considering it was one of the first accounts of primate behaviour so accurate.

Sapiens (2014) now this book is an incredible read if you want a brief , easy and wonderful account of humans over our evolution. And what makes us “different.”

A personal favourite of mine, an excellent account at how something as “human” as morality is something perhaps shared amongst at least some great apes

The unique dignity of humans, a central value in the West, was, and to some extent still is, on the minds of taxonomists, ethnologists, primatologists, and archaeologists. This book thus offers an anthropological analysis of the burgeoning anthropological disciplines in terms of their own cultural taboos and philosophical preconceptions.

Algebra is pretty important. In the clinical setting, you'll be using math formulas to figure out certain drug preparations. Not so much for the combat aspect as those drugs are largely already good to go. So, while I wouldn't say you need to be an expert in algebra before you ship out, it's going to come up in your career and you should probably know it before you leave.

It's good to have a math background for a lot of the things you do in the military in general. Pathfinder ops is almost entirely math. Long Range Marksmanship has a lot of math(You probably won't deal with this, but depending on the unit, you might). So it's good to have a solid grasp of math.

Anatomy is going to be your bread and butter, and not a lot of medics know it inside and out. With the more advanced schools, I'd say 75-80% of the failures are because medics don't have a great understanding of A&P. This thing is going to be your best friend. Pay attention to the "Frequently bought together" thing and get those as well. You're going to have good pay and not a lot of expenses, so it shouldn't be a problem having a few of those on hand while you're in.

Also, pick up a copy of the Special Operations Forces Medical Handbook 2nd Edition. Not the red one, The one that came out in '08. Have a medical dictionary on hand to look up anything you don't know.

Your first couple of years in, you need to be studying after work every single night. Medic school doesn't teach you everything, and you need to be in charge of your own knowledge.

Someone lent teenage lovers a car to get away from the mess, others brought blankets, entertainment, etc. It's a heartwarming, WONDERFUL tale of love and kindness. So if you find this even mildly interesting, you must read “The Disappearing Spoon”. It’s basically the stories behind the elements and their discovery. Before you yawn and move along, it reads like a badass Indiana Jones novel and is a page turner. The name is from Gallium which was used in a tea party and shaped like spoons. When the patrons stirred their tea the spoon disappeared and everyone was delighted (health concerns?). Anyways, you’ll never look at elements the same way:

Probably because it's bulky as hell and near impossible to fit into any sort of remotely confined space. Other factors to consider- a lot of moving parts which are almost guaranteed to get gunked up and stick and/or break after any appreciable amount of torque.

It's a cool idea, but it's an impractical solution in search of a problem that's better solved by things like nut lathes and the objectively superior Kipex Pliers Wrench.

Edit- ideally you should own actual tools, particularly if you own a home or vehicle (shit, even if you rent a shitty apartment and only have a bicycle) Seriously though, a small investment in a basic tool kit can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars performing basic repairs and maintenance on your home and vehicle. Chances are there's a YouTube video of what you're trying to do.
