I've been bike commuting for a while in Denton. I used to do 6-7 miles one-way, but since my move, I'm down to 2-3 miles one-way :( I do it five days a week, 52 days a year, with maybe 5 days skipped a year due to severe weather.

You can definitely do 4 season commuting in Denton, but there's nothing wrong with 3 season. Winter commuting in Denton is great, as we rarely have ice or snow. Since you don't have to worry about road conditions, the thing to worry about in winter is going to be wearing proper clothing to keep comfortable. Dress in layers for your body, and get a balaclava/face mask/scarf/etc for your face. Winter commuting is great, in my opinion.

Summer is going to be the worst, as we will routinely hit a heat index of 100°+ F, but for a short commute like that, you can totally make it happen. It's best if you can shower when you get to your destination, or you can do a shower right before you leave and let evaporative cooling work in your favor without sweat. If you can't do that, get a [giant wet wipe]( https://www.amazon.com/10-pack-massive-biodegradable-residue-free-substitute/dp/B01NB09UJI ) to wipe yourself off before you get to work. Remember to stay hydrated, and bring a change of clothes for any weather where you will work up a sweat.

Rain is not fun, but I have a [rain suit](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CPDJ4TW/) and some rain boots/galloshes/Wellingtons, and that keeps me mostly dry through the torrential downpour. If you don't want to bike in the rain, that's totally fine! But on light rain days, it's rather enjoyable :)

For a 6 mile commute, an eBike might be overkill. If you haven't been riding your bike much, your first few days of bike commuting will suck, but you will get used to it quickly. Just stick with it for 5-10 rides before you commit to any major changes or purchases. Denton is pretty darn flat, so we don't have any giant rolling hills to work against (but you'll probably find some flatter routes if you try), so you won't need an eBike to help you up the steep climbs.

If you haven't yet, check out /r/bikecommuting for some more in-depth information and people who can provide more help as well :)

Ride happy!

I wouldn't get one with the speakers built in, you want to avoid vibrations on the turntable, so having speakers built in just makes for a bad listening experience.

OK, so the basic setup would look like this...

Turntable -----> Pre-amp ----> Amp ----> Speakers

There are some turntables that have a built in pre-amp, this means it looks like this...

Turntable ----> Amp ----> Speakers

If you want a "budget" way to go, I would say something like the Audio Technica LP60 that has a built in pre-amp, hooked into a small amp, running to a set of speakers. This whole setup is right about $160 and would have you good to go and would be easy to grow down the road, upgrading things as you see fit.

I don't know who locally has these items, alternatively, you could try the local second hand stores and see if they have a decent turntable for sale. I'm more a fan of buying new, if it doesn't work, you can exchange it.

Come on over to /r/vinyl and there are some great FAQs!

I have this one mounted on my roof. It's worked well for years. I don't recall there being ranged models when I bought it, but it was about $100 in 2012. You'll need a clear line of sight of the southern horizon for the best reception due to the distance we are from the DFW towers. Higher is better; you'll want at least 25-35 feet off the ground. The top of a 2 story home is easily high enough. YMMV with a 1 story without a taller mounting pole.

I have this one that I bought at Best Buy. I get channels 4, 5, 11, 13, 27, and 33, plus a bunch of other random channels that pretty much have nothing but crap on them 24/7. Oh, and channel 68 or something which is ION which does have some decent stuff. The signal is usually pretty good and the channels are in HD.

I live in Argyle.

However, I can't get channel 8. I wish I could.

If you have Amazon you can get a good kit for about $30. I use this one, and it works reasonably well. Takes a bit more time to get the same level of white that I got at the dentist (about 2 weeks, rather than 1 appointment), but it also didn't cost me $200.

I also paid a little extra to buy the "remineralization gel", which really just keeps your teeth from being super sensitive after you bleach (which did make a big difference for me, but my teeth are a little sensitive anyway).

I ride about 10 minutes to work on a 29" mountain bike without suspension. For Denton streets that's a good bike. wiggee's comments are pretty spot-on. In winter I also wear a balaclava/face mask/scarf and a helmet liner depending on how cold it is. I also have two pairs of winter gloves, one for cool and one for really cold. I've riddin in the mornings below 20F and no problems. Even in the summer it doesn't get too hot until after 9-10am. Get a good helmet with MIPS and wear it. Also for pant leg cuff clips I use blousers.

I am on the second floor, but it's a shared balcony and I'm not too sure if I could pull that off with my management.

I could maybe see a pair of U bolts and put it along the south facing railing. Only problem is running it into my apartment.

Edit: Well this looks promising to get the cable run through a window.

My friend Craig Rodgers just put a new book out and he's from Denton county! It's called The Ghost of Mile 43, he's got a bunch of other small pieces out in magazines and online as well, and this other one coming out next month.

haha It's called Da Bomb - The Final Answer, and it's around 1,500,000 Scoville units. I got it at Hot Licks in LA and had to sign a waiver. Usually I mix only about a drop or two into whatever sauce I'm feeling for my wings/whatever and it kicks things up to 10. One 2oz bottle costing $25 sounds like a lot, but it lasts a while because I only use a drop or two each time I'm in the mood for an ass kicking. lol Man, one drop in a batch of mac and cheese is heaven.

Anyways, I actually misrepresented myself earlier, I'm currently still in LA until sometime in May in which I'm moving back to Denton, but I'll probably be bringing my bottle with me haha

I've got this, but I think you can find dashcams on Amazon that are closer to $30.
