Thanks for saying it looks good! I definitely made some mistakes but it was fun (two major mistakes plus many others) but they are hard to see since it's so small).

If I'm giving "pro tips" I'd say:

  1. Make sure you have good tools, I used a pair of cutters and some needle nose pliers. I really wish I had smaller pliers since these were really hard to get in to some tight spaces. I got a kit from amazon but in all honesty you are probably going to get a better deal and better quality from your local hardware store.

  2. Take your time. I did this over the course of 2-3 days and probably put about 6 hours into it. I could have done a much better job if I went slower.

  3. If you have something very small that can be used to help make curves it helps a LOT. The hardest parts of this one were all of the tubular parts. Most of them don't look all that great in person in my opinion but it's because I didn't have a good form to shape them with so it was all free hand.

    Hope this helps!

Don't be nervous. Get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Guide-Disneyland-2012-Guides/dp/1118012283

Plan your itinerary right and the lines won't be so bad. Your 3-year-old will love it.

Make sure you go to Cafe Orleans or the Blue Bayou and get the Monte Cristo sandwich. Thank me when you get back.

To meet Aurora, either go to the Princess Fantasy Faire or dine in Ariel's Grotto, expect to pay about $120 but the food is very good. Get an autograph book, because your daughter will definitely get to talk to the princesses more if she has a book for them to sign.

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will do a princess makeover on your little girl... buy her a princess dress ahead of time to save money, then for $50 she will get her hair done, makeup, glitter, get a ring, a tiara, a sash, and a princess backpack with makeup kit to take home. Totally worth it.

Skip the World of Color, but see Fantasmic.

Sleeping Beauty castle walkthrough is great to do in the heat of the day, if she likes Aurora. It's cool inside and you can do it at your own pace.

I went during spring break last year. The lines were usually not too bad if you plan it right. My 3 1/2 year old went from 8am to 12am without leaving the park for a break. That's how much she loved Disneyland.

Roller Coasters, Flumes and Flying Saucers is out of print but available on the kindle. It has the story of Arrow Development who did the ride systems for a bunch of disneyland rides.

Building A Better Mouse Tells the story of the construction of Epcot written by the electrical engineer for the American Adventure. It doesn't go into huge technical detail but it's also cool to read about the WDW resort before Eisner developed the it.

If you can find back issues of "The E ticket" magazine they're pretty good. Each issue focused on one attraction with tons of construction and backstage photos. It's no longer in print but there were also CDs made with multiple issues in PDF format

I just went looking for a defunct magazine that had the best description of disney anamatronics I've ever seen and couldn't find it on amazon or ebay so you'll have to make due with a free copy of the article. It's about the figures made for the 1964 world's fair.

There are other podcasts and interviews with imagineers I've seen online but I don't know how you wrap a website for father's day.

And in a bit of shameless self promotion here are blueprints of all sorts of disney rides that I've drawn myself

It's somewhat hard to navigate but someone maintains a Haunted Mansion wiki with everything we know about everything in the mansion.

This book goes into the themes/storylines the writers were going for when they created the mansion. It also talks about various ideas that they had that were scrapped like the Museum of the Weird. It's a good read.

There's also this recent comic which had a structured story about a boy who wants to help save his grandpa's spirit from the Mansion. This story didn't blow me away as it's clearly meant for a younger audience but it was alright.

With a 5-day park hopper you will definitely see everything, so no worries there :)

If you really want to ride Radiator Spring Racers don't go in the FastPass line. I watched it grow almost to the length of a regular queue line. Instead go right to RSR, ride it, and then hit the FastPass a little later when the return time is in the evening: riding RSR at night is really cool as well. In fact, make sure you hang out in Cars Land and the parks at night and don't retire early, they take on a different feel at night and the atmosphere is great.

Grab a copy of The Imagineering Field Guide to Disneyland, it has a lot of interesting information you can read up on as you travel there. Picking up a Hidden Mickey book can help you scour every square inch of the park too.

And don't be afraid to swallow your pride and visit some attractions that might seem dumb :)

For more great images and stories of the park origins, check out the recently published “Walt Disney’s Disneyland” book. It’s got lots of amazing retro photos and interesting stories about the park in every phase of development but the formative years are truly fascinating. I was able to check out a copy from my local library but the hardcover is also on Amazon if you want a version for your West Elm coffee table ;)

You can find them on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2pYberd They are slightly more expensive there ($16.95) but Amazon offers free shipping if you have Amazon Prime, and if you don't have Prime you can still get free shipping on orders over $35.

They are also $9.95 on the Disney Parks shopping app, but by the time you add shipping, Amazon might be a better deal.

Here's the link to the app: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/shop-disney-parks-mobile-app/

If you want to shoot at night you'll want a tripod as well. I've heard good things about this one (note five out of five stars on almost 800 reviews) but I've got an older one which is a bit smaller I still use as it fits in my bag better. A tripod will be essential for good night shots, and you may want to start paying attention to garbage cans and railings as set-up spots if you use the small ones. I generally carry a regular one around with me and just lock it rigid when folded so the handle can hook over my bag strap and I can walk without carrying it. I've got pretty good at entering and leaving rides with it and generally am no slower than anyone else and haven't had any problems with it other than Star Tours (I just hold it between my legs).

First off, CONGRATS! I don’t know you but I’m proud of you.

From shop Disney:

Art called 6-Up: ''6-Up Mickey'' Giclée on Canvas by Trevor Carlton - Limited Editionhttps://www.shopdisney.com/6-up-mickey-giclee-on-canvas-by-trevor-carlton-limited-edition-1405261

Might I also suggest taking a pic with six of your favorite characters, in the first picture hold up 1 finger, then in the next hold up 2, and so on. Then go get the pictures framed in something like this:

Malden International Designs Berkeley Matted Black Wood Collage Picture Frame, 6 Option, 6-4x6, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008GRSGXW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9wt1Ab5BZ3E3D

And keep adding for each clean year until it’s an album of celebration.

Not a dad, but a mom who brings her three young kids to Disneyland a lot...I would honestly stick with the stroller. As ranoutofbacon said, you'll get exhausted quick with a pack. And it's going to take you quite a bit of time to take a child in-and-out of a pack every time you want to go to a ride or let your kid run around. I've hauled an infant in a front baby carrier around Disneyland before and even that gets exhausting.

Double strollers can be a beast to maneuver during crowded Disneyland days, but IMHO, still much better than a pack. I would stick with the double, or get two lightweight umbrella strollers you and your wife can push.

That said...I have an older model of this Kelty hiking pack and love it for hiking with my toddler: https://www.amazon.com/Kelty-Tour-1-0-Child-Carrier/dp/B005XIRBJW - it is lightweight and my child can see over my head. It's the most comfortable extended-use child pack I've used. It, however, would not be compact enough to take on a ride. An Ergobaby would be lightweight enough for you carry on rides (castmembers will ask you to remove the child before getting on the ride), but the child would not be able to see over your head.

Hehe, thank you! I'm very happy with the outcome. :)

It is a [pumpkin light] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OI9M1S8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_m7v1BbD297AZB) that I bought from Target a couple of years ago! It's my favorite one for spooky pumpkins, but it looks like it has been replaced with an [updated version] (https://www.target.com/p/halloween-pumpkin-masters-3-in-1-light/-/A-53294408). :)

I've used Anker and RAVPower battery packs in the past and have been very satisfied. Mophie products tend to be expensive but are excellent quality and highly reliable.

With an iPhone X, I would recommend you look into a battery pack that has a USB-C port that supports USB-PD (aka 'Power Delivery', the fast charging technology that Apple uses for iPhones) and able to output at least 30W from that specific port and an USB-C to Lightning cable for the absolute fastest recharges while in the park.

Some USB-C Power Delivery recommendations:
RAVPower 26800 PD Portable Charger
Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD
Mophie Powerstation XXL

You might also want to look into battery packs with an AC outlet. That way, you can use a fast charging wall wart you already have and can use elsewhere for fast charging:
RAVPower AC Outlet Portable Charger
Mophie Powerstation AC

Yeah, okay I understand your point. A thesis/dissertation is most likely profitable when its topic is practical for a customer's use. But your thoughts on tattoos as branding (while interesting) would be more relevant for a business/law degree than his American Studies.

>I'm sure your friend is fabulously wealthy from it.

Agree! If people are looking for a reusable straw, I found one at my local grocery store that is very similar to this one on Amazon. Works great, easy to clean and carry.

u/Babytrix · 4 pointsr/Disneyland

Well, it isn't solely on Disneyland, but I've read 'Walt Disney: The Triumph of Imagination' by Neal Gabler and recall that the construction of the park was covered very extensively in it. The book itself was a great read too!

Congrats!

Rainy days at Disneyland are a blast as long as you're prepared. You can look forward to lighter crowds than if it were dry, thanks to most AP's staying home. Bring:

  1. Waterproof ponchos

  2. Extra pairs of socks

  3. Something to keep your phone dry (we used these on our last trip and they worked a treat!)

  4. If you have space in your bag, a towel would be nice to have as well.

One more word of advice: many rides shut down if there's lightning, even the tram to get back to your car. The downtime usually isn't very long though.
