The first definitive book on the matter: Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation

Another book I love is The Witch in the Waiting Room: A Physician Investigates Paranormal Phenomena in Medicine

They are both written by doctors with a skeptical but open-minded view of the unexplained. The first I haven't read (just summaries and through reputation) but it is referenced by the second. The second has a bibliography which is great. The second is great and covers a whole bunch of things. Also if anyone can recommend similar books (or books the scientifically refute these experiences) to me I would appreciate it.

North Country Malt

Complete Joy of Homebrewing - Good book for beginners. It contains all the information you need to brew.

If you can find a local homebrew shop, they are usually staffed with people who know what they're doing. Costco in the states has a kit, incl. stainless pot, for $100 right now, that's about as good a deal as you will find.

  • Avg cost ingredient kit = $35 = 50 bottles of beer.
  • 70c/bottle = 60c savings/beer.
  • 100/.60= 167 bottles of beer to pay for the kit.
  • at 15 bottles/week, it will take you 11 weeks drinking your own beer for the beer kit to pay for itself.

  • 167 bottles = 3 kits(ish)
  • 3 kits = $105 avg.
  • Funk math, another 11/12 weeks.

Your new hobby will have paid for itself in 6 months.

For fast-maturing beer, brew light. It will only take about 2 weeks to age to drinkability. Heavier beers sometimes take a few more weeks before they are palatable. For ease in cleaning (so you're not cleaning 15 bottles/week), a kegging system may be in order.

    Good luck.

    -edit Funky math.

I read up quite widely on the web, then got these books:
Overcoming Social Anxiety
Painfully Shy
Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe
I think the first was the most directly useful.

The basic way to treat an anxiety disorder is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT. You do two things. One is to challenge the patterns of thought that lead to the anxiety, and the other is to challenge yourself to do the things you are frightened of, a little at a time. Things like these 'flashbacks' are unhelpful ways of thinking, that can cement the idea that you will be humiliated in social situations. The way to deal with them is to refuse to accept them. Think of them as 'your anxiety talking' instead.

On the behavioral side, I worked at it gradually, and in the end I worked up to the worst thing I could imagine doing and then did it. For me, this was taking up Salsa dancing. Just about the hardest thing I've ever done was making myself go through the door the first time, but I wouldn't let myself bottle out. You can only make this stuff work if you're really ready to change, because it takes real willpower, but it's so worth it. My life isn't ruled by fear any more. That's pretty cool :-)

I've been listening to this band since the 80's.... but like any music one gets a bit tired and they go looking around for other things to tickle their ears...

Needless to say when I decided to pop in the EP-LP CD I have from them it really was one of the best feelings I had had in years... the joy of "rediscovering" a band I grew up with and singing along with songs... it was awesome.

You should also check out Introvert Power.

Despite its terrible name, it really actually did an awesome job making me realize that introversion was a positive thing, not a negative thing. And it helps give ideas on how to handle social situations and structure your life in a way that caters to your introverted side... I feel like I'm much better at making sure I get my necessary alone time now.

She is super into this ear cleaning thing. Although the more I think about it the better it sounds. Sounds like it would go well with one of these

Edit: "Now you can hear the Johova's Witnesses before they get to your street!" LMAO

This was me, and I know exactly why in my case. I had undiagnosed ADD and the brain chemicals that are triggered by the stress of an impending deadline actually allowed my brain to focus.

While there are benefits
>Yeah, and it has worked out well for me recently. I did a ten page single-spaced paper in one eleven hour session the night before it was due and got an A. Also, I put off five weeks of reading until the night before a final and set the curve.

it can also be very troublesome.
>This was me in school, and this has been me in my few-decades-long software engineering career. It's really a problem on self-directed projects where I set the deadline. Things never get done.

As a teacher who was diagnosed with ADD during grad school, I have learned that while it is majorly over-diagnosed in some populations, it is woefully under-diagnosed in others. Extremely intelligent people without the hyperactivity component (which generally leads to diagnosis by driving teachers crazy) generally can do so well in school and work situations by utilizing the last minute focusing ability, that they never get diagnosed.

In some cases, undiagnosed people are perfectly happy to continue on enjoying their time between deadlines and then cramming. Many people, however, no matter what they have achieved, always feel this overwhelming sense that they are not living up to their potential, that they could have done better if only they could have focused themselves. This constant feeling of under-achievement can lead to depression.

I would suggest that anyone who identifies with this do some research about ADD and decide if maybe they should be evaluated -- it saved my life. An excellent book, which includes the DSM-IV criteria for diagnosis in adults is Driven to Distraction.

Chances are "you're doing it wrong". Get this book, it will explain how to write cover letters that get you very reliable call-ins for interviews. The CV is not the focus, consider it an index or a reference card.

The most important thing I can recommend is to completely ignore job advertisements. They are a waste of time, you are up against the odds big time, especially if you lack experience. Write direct, focused letters to companies you know you'd be good for, showing that you understand them and what they do. Nothing epic, just three paragraphs, in this order:

  • hello & who you are (3-4 lines)
  • sparse but teasing info on good things you've done that apply to their business (say 4-7 lines)
  • good bye and hope to hear from you (1-3 lines)

The book I linked covers all this and it completely changes how you approach things. The teasing is important, you want them to want to meet you to learn more.

This is one of the best things I've read in a long time. You've crystallized an inkling I've had for a long time but couldn't quite put into words -- certainly not words this cogent and accurate.

So, THANKS!!

With something like this. I have actually had my eyebrows dyed properly before (in a shopping mall for a fiver), but it's pretty much the same. Best thing to do is to get them shaped and dyed properly then do the upkeep yourself.

ha, back in high school we had the sensors on the books like public libraries, and my friends thought it would be hilarious to fuck with me. they slipped this book into my backpack when i wasn't looking, and watched from outside as the hilarity ensued when the librarian made me empty my backpack after i set off the alarms. the sight and sound of them laughing outside the library was enough to convince her that it was a joke, thankfully.

I've found that you can find some pretty nice shoes that don't have laces, I'm wearing a pretty sweet pair of Clarks right now.

I have this sometimes (I also don't remember events but remember facts). Like something will happen and I feel like I dreamt it years before. But I kind of assume that I must just think that I had dreamt it years earlier. But now that I think about it, I guess it's possible I really did remember something that didn't happen yet in a dream, given what I read in The Grand Design.

Something weird is that I specifically remember getting out of a pool and walking towards a house -- and having deja vu about it -- thinking it had happened months before. And then, it happening again and remembering both deja vu times before. But the "3rd time", it was the first time I had ever been to that house.

check out his book

one of the best points was about doing this. it basically points out the fact that you aren't really saving that time at all. are you storing it up somewhere planning on releasing it at once to gain some advantage? nope. the main point was to slow down, there's no point in rushing. I enjoy pushing buttons, so I actually enter 1234 and just stop the microwave when the food is ready. That last part was a lie.

In-ear buds ftw! I've had a pair of cheap Sony in-ear buds. They sound better than earbuds, and they fit better!

As a hetero male on a topic such as this, I recommend an automatic tweezer, something like this. It's fast and it works. I sound like a shitty infomercial but I don't know how else to put it.
EDIT: lol ok downvote me, I'm just trying to help.
Unless you saw through my viral marketing scheme, then okay you got me--I've been using this account for months just so I could shill for a tweezer company, yep...
