I'm a super beginner in this sort of thing but tools that I seem to see recommended a lot would be like tweezers, wire cutters, pliers, miniature miter saw, pin vise set.

If you're modifying kits, you'd probably want to pick up a lot of things like popsicle sticks, wooden coffee stirrers, toothpicks, and of course a lot of different types of glue and some acrylic paint and brushes. A lot of that you can get at the dollar store too (depending on where you are), which is great.

I'd recommend watching crafters like The Square to Spare - she lists all the tools and supplies she uses for each video, which I have found very useful in knowing what to pick up for myself.

If you're set on making pieces yourself, there are lots of books available via Amazon that have instructions for miniature furniture.

I personally own and recommend: Dollhouse Style, The Complete Book of Making Miniatures, Edwardian Era: MIniatures in 1:12 Scale, and Thirties and Forties Miniatures in 1:12 Scale.

And they aren't what you've asked about but, you eventually might find a desire for Making Upholstered Furniture in 1/12 Scale and Making 1/12 Scale Wicker Furniture.

I did find Doll's House Furniture: Easy to Make Projects in 1:12 Scale, but I've never looked through it before. Also there's Creating Doll's House Kitchens in 1/12 Scale which was just published last year and might be exactly what you're looking for. The same author has also published Step by Step Doll's House Furniture Projects in 1/12 Scale which also looks good.

As a backup plan, Hobby Builder's Supply has some kitchen cabinet kits for sale. Please note that the link will take you to a page where they're offering a large grouping of those kits as one whole mega kit. They are available individually. They're individual, modular cabinets that you can mix and match. And since they're kits, you can make templates of the pieces to make more of the same thing before you assemble them.

I hope this helps!

So I posted in /r/woodworking and got a pretty good suggestion that is going to work.

For drilling the holes, I ordered a micro drill set that allows me to drill my pilot holes with a small finger drill. This is effective and gives me much more control than attempting to use a power drill (and works just fine).

Then just another note for aligning the sections - in the same woodworking thread they recommend using transfer points. This is a good technique that I was familiar with but will mention. Basically once you have your pilot, you put a specialized plug into the hole where the the plug is built with a sharp tip pointing out of its center. After I've drilled my two pilots in the railing top and bottom rails, I'll put a transfer point into each of those pilot holes, then lightly use the transfer points to "poke" and leave a small target mark in the end newel post. Then I know exactly where to drill my second pilot so that my support dowel will line up.

Thanks for the comments!

Yes! This is a kit called "Dream of Sky" I got mine on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Miniature-Dollhouse-Kit-Dream-Plastic/dp/B07CZ9QQ97

The box it arrived in had 5 other miniature kits pictured! I will definitely get another.

I ordered this one from Amazon, it’s really great you only need a little and it goes tacky quickly so you’re not holding pieces together forever.

Sure! I got this one on Amazon, but I’ve also seen it for sale on AliExpress. As is the case with several of these kits, you can get it with or without a plastic dust cover, so you might want to shop around until you can find the version that you want (several different sellers stock this particular kit).

It took me probably 90+ hours scattered over the past year to complete this kit, for anyone wondering it's this kit from Amazon.
