The problem is likely somebody else at your house doing something, say watching a YouTube video or uploading to Facebook. This is utilizing all available bandwidth, leaving none for your game. It's most common on slower ADSL or Cable connections, less so on Fibre or VDSL2.

No matter what anybody tells you, you can't do jack shit about that on your PC. You can prioritize what your PC does on your PC, but that's pointless. Close pr0n DL before you start DotA, but your PC isn't the issue that you'll be wanting to solve.

If you want to influence the rest of your network, your router 100% must do the QoS (Quality of Service) prioritization.

Get yourself something like a cheap TP-Link TL-WR1043ND and put Gargoyle Firmware on it (gargoyle-router.com). You can use the likes of this device with any normal DSL / Cable / Fibre router (Just turn off WiFi on your existing router if it has it).
Then, plug it in and run everything through this Gargoyle router, LAN and WiFi.

There's super easy settings that will allow you to do things like give everybody else lower priority than your PC, give them bandwidth caps (So they can only download X amount per day / month and then they're either slowed or stopped entirely). Most of all though, you can use that to prioritize DotA2 traffic quite easily over everything else that goes on from any other device on your network!

You can get them super cheap from Amazon (I'm not in the USA, I use another local PC Retailer, YMMV):
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WR1043ND-Wireless-Detachable-Antennas/dp/B002YLAUU8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410440176&sr=8-1&keywords=TL-WR1043ND

It's super easy to set them up with Gargoyle, takes about 3-4 minutes! You won't be disappointed.

It really depends what you are searching for in your water, but for a lot of things yes!

There are test kits available for aquariums that have reagents and instructions to determine levels of lots of important things in water, like ammonium, nitrite, nitrate and pH.

Complex kits like this

And simpler kits like this

Ammonium, Nitrite and Nitrate levels generally spike if things like Raw Sewage is dumped into the river, or fertilizer from fields has been washed off into the river due to heavy rain.

Understanding Nitrate levels in water is very important, due to it being toxic to human babies. It causes something nicknamed 'blue baby syndrome' by messing with haemoglobin. Nitrate in water is also toxic to animals such as horses and cattle, so keeping an eye on nitrate levels in their water and feed is important so they don't die from nitrate poisoning. Special care should be shown to pregnant animals with regards to nitrate exposure.

pH can also increase if rivers are being "limed" where their pH is being increased, in an effort to negate the acidity caused by growing crops.

For other more obscure ions and minerals you can get little handheld test kits from people like sigma, and Hannah instruments. These can range anywhere from €50 to a few thousand €.

Sorry for wall of text.

tl;dr; yes, aquarium kits on Amazon are useful if you are concerned about water quality.

Downscaling and using sharpening might be a good idea if your computer is able to use it. Otherwise I used to use ISLC which increased my FPS in a lot of games (this will probably help you a lot because you only have 6GB of RAM) Other than that you could probably get a laptop cooling pad which might help, but I don’t have very much experience with them. Also make sure your power plan is on high performance when plugged in, and close all the programs in the background that you can. I would also test out rendering DOTA with Vulkan vs DX11 as they can also help improve FPS. I don’t think this will make a huge difference but it also might be worth trying to install Windows LTSC as it doesn’t have any of the bloatware normal windows does (Cortana, XBOX, Candy crush, etc) The last thing you can try is undervolting your CPU so it can get better temps and keep the boost clocks higher for longer, but that can be tricky and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you know what you are doing or like to tinker. If you have any questions I’d be happy to help.

I'm not an audiophile but I was gunning for the cheapest 7.1 Surround Sound headset awhile ago, I found the cheapest one to be Logitech's G35. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-7-1-Channel-Surround-Sound-Headset/dp/B001O5CCQK

It was a bit cheaper when I bought it, either way its an excellent headset, has done me well in many FPS's as well as games in general. Been using it while playing DotA 2 and its awesome. They fit really well and are adjustable, if you dont wear them properly tho they can start to weigh on your ears after a couple of hours, its pretty heavy. Hope this helps, take care.

u/ShadowX22 · 9 pointsr/DotA2

While people are recommending headsets that come with the mic. I'm going to recommend something else. Get a high quality set of over the ear headphones. I'm talking something like the Audio Technica ATH-M50S, Audio Technica ATH-AD700, Sennheiser HD555/595 (The 595's are very similar to the 555's but sound better, there are links around that you can mod your 555's to become 595's), or Sennheiser HD380 Pro. And then attach a Zalman Mic to it.

I have a pair of HD595's and absolutely love them, I can wear them all day and not feel it. They are built like tanks and have amazing sound quality. With my Zalman mic, I not only have a headset that has much higher sound quality than any gaming headset, but I can also use it for VOIP.

I used to have a pair of Creative Fatal1ty MKii, but after picking up my Sennheiser's I can't go back to them. The comfort and sound quality is literally night and day.

Although slightly out of your price range, the two companies make extremely high quality audio equipment. If you look through their offerings you'll definitely find a pair of headphones that will fit your budget. If you watch Amazon you can find that they cut prices dramatically from time to time, I picked up my 595's for around $150, and now they're almost $250.

Idealism and Materialism are differing stances on Mind and Matter. Materialism is actually not respected among philosopher, mainly because it does not make rational sense(there is a very strong argument for idealism and no argument for Materialism, pure logic suggests that there is a world where concepts in our world are real) Most every modern institution ascribes to materialism, because for example science does not believe in a spiritual dimension and imagination is not an organ of perception but a funcion of chemical processes in the brain. Spiritual means you believe in spirits and Spirit. Spiritualists are almost unilaterally idealistic which means that they believe that God exists and also there is a spirit world and a hierarchy of spiritual dimensions and beings from God to Earth. This is a good book to read if you want an idea of an idealistic worldview. You are using a hegelian corruption of the pure Philosophical concepts. Most religions are opposed to Materialism. For example the Satan of christianity is modified from a former God of Materialism and Time also called Kronos. I can't explain this all in a reddit comment but Satanism for example confirms this idea. Satanists worship the physical world, dont believe in ethics, are generally hedonistic and speak about the relativity of truth. The sophists too, believed in the relativity of truth, a markedly materialistic concept.

I would make your priorities:

  • Good GPU
  • Good display.

The GPU makes games run better, and a poor display can be one of the most noticeable flaws in a laptop. For a good quality display in a laptop, you want to make sure you're getting a laptop with an IPS-type display. TN isn't inherently bad, but most of today's TN-type laptop displays are cheap panels that cannot properly produce dark colors, and have viewing angles narrower than decent TN desktop displays. A poor display can defeat part of the purpose of buying a laptop capable of running Dota 2 in ultra settings, which is to make the game look better.

    ---

If your budget is higher, and you want to play more games, these are good choices. Both have IPS displays, and the GTX 1060 which is faster than the GTX 980M in that Ideapad Y900 you're looking at.

  • https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Computer-GT62VR-Dominator-027-i7-6700HQ/dp/B01K00YHMG/

    ---

But if you just want to run Dota 2, you can easily get by with something considerably cheaper.

This $739 Inspiron 7559 has a GT 960M, a 256GB SSD, and a 1920x1080 IPS display. Should have absolutely no issue running Dota 2 in 1920x1080. Also note that, while you probably don't need to worry about processor, the i5-6300HQ is a quad core and is faster than dual-core "i7" chips such as the i7-7500U.

This is the Inspiron 7559. I would steer clear of the new Inspiron 7567 on Dell's website, since it uses a significantly worse quality display. If you want a faster GPU than the 960M, check out that link for alternative recommendations.

Another good option: The Dell XPS 15, if you want portability and a really nice display. Get a refurb through the Dell Outlet, that has the 960M GPU. Note: Some have experienced ghosting issues with the screen in the FHD version, and the 4K version will require you to turn off the fancy water settings if you want to run in native resolution.

    ---

If you end up looking at a different laptop that isn't one of these recommendations, let me know or run it by or /r/SuggestALaptop. You might get learn something about it you wouldn't otherwise find out about it, before buying. Avoid going off to Best Buy and just purchasing whatever's on sale.

Your argument as for this being criminal activity is debatable. After all, everyone is a felon these days, so it would be up to a judge to decide. So my point about them being sued about it stands as before; if they aren't, then it's irrelevant.

People aren't losing money unfairly unless they can't read, but that's their responsibility.

Valve, or "the vulnerable" as you refer to the "victims" of their "criminal activity", do not need a random Reddit post to come to their rescue. Again, if someone feels negatively affected by Valve's activities then they are free to sue, which is something very popular in certain parts of the world, and is where a lawyer would be necessary.

If you want to help Valve, send them an e-mail and forget about it; it's their responsibility if they ignore it. You can already rest peacefully knowing you did everything in your power to help poor Valve survive the onslaught of criminal charges coming their way.

If you want to help people harmed by Valve's practices, contact them and help them sue, or start a class action lawsuit.

If you want to just randomly bring "awareness" to the issue (which everyone likes to do for every pointless thing ever) then rest assured that everyone who cares is aware, and that everyone else is just going to keep ignoring it.

If you don't fall in either of these three points then what you're doing qualifies as shitposting. Which is usually fine around here, but in your case it's just repetitive.

Well, arguing was fun, but I'm gonna do something else with my time now. Have fun on your future shitposting!

Edit:

> lawyers become lawyers (to safeguard) the vulnerable

Good jokes mate, et cetera.

I enjoyed seeing the topic being brought up in a public format as AI becomes more popular to the majority of gamers, but I wasn't a huge fan of the type of discussions going on in the thread. The main commenters were definitely knowledgable, but a lot of important info to really express their points was left out. This book is a really good introduction to game AI for anyone interested in the field:
http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Example-Wordware-Developers-Library/dp/1556220782

You can easily find a pdf of the book by searching for it on google.

edit: It goes into specifics for coding purposes, but I wouldn't say it's difficult to read without any programming experience. It's definitely intermediate concepts described for beginners.

MX-518 , G-400 and G-400s

I have MX-518 but i think its not selling anymore, you have newer versions g400 and g400s,mouse have some nice weight and size very nice for hand,2 buttons for thumbs great to bind, also I think price is not too expensive for such a great gaming mouse.

I've played neither LoL or HoN, only DoTA. Real dota is going to be the best practice for dota 2 for a few reasons:

  • You're going to get a good "feel" for the heroes, like attack speed/animation/cast point etc. This is sooo important for dota since there is so much focus on laning, last hits, denies, half-denies and harass

  • You'll get familiar with the actual hero spells, so you won't get used to playing an odd reworking of clock or lich or something, get reliant on a skill that works differently, and then have to 'relearn' how the hero actually works

  • Its $20 new or $10 used on amazon.com! Seriously! One of the greatest games of all time, and you get the real dota!

  • You'll get to know and hate the Dota community, and then you'll get to actually appreciate the hard work valve's put into improving the new-player experience.

  • Similar, you'll get to see how absolutely shitty dota looks, and it will be so nice when you get to move to dota 2. If you 'start' with lol/hon, you'll miss out on the creamy-jeans you'll get the first time you play dota 2 yourself!

  • If you want someone to play some pub dota with, I'll totally play with you! Really!

Well very cool man. I didn't know what the rate of change for those Samsungs were.

Might I suggest instead something a bit more like this to relieve your charging issues?

I have had really great success using a battery pack backup with my phone. Lets me go days without itching for a plug (Moto X Gen 2).

Cheers!

Get an AC adapter for your car, this one is rated at 300 watts and will easily support your computer and monitor.

Once you have that installed, go ahead and order these parts and assemble them. Pop the computer under your car seat sideways OR put it in the footrest area of your passenger side and MAKE SURE the graphics card is secured. The car bumping around could cause problems.

Next, grab this monitor and this monitor stand. You can probably mess with your passenger seat or center console to get the stand to fit.

Grab a keyboard and mouse from target for $10 and get Windows 10 from /r/microsoftsoftwareswap.

Then, buy a Zubie for $100 and pay the $10 a month service fee for internet.

Spend another $100 or so to refine things, get supplies to keep everything secure, get a dank gyro set to show you're on the move, and a VGA cable for the monitor.

Altogether, this setup costs $900 and can play Dota on the go.

And yes, I know this works, I've built one. My uncle who passed away recently was an architect and as such, spent a lot of time on work sites. He was also an avid Dota player, so I made him a system to practice and pass the time in his van. He played ability draft a lot, so it worked out well. The only problems he had were download speed (we ran an ethernet cable into his garage so he could plug into his Fiber and download updates as often as he needed to) and room for keyboard/mouse (he bought a lunch tray from the dollar store to solve that).
