>These days I obsess about (fill in latest idea I want to try) for a while (2 days to a few weeks) and then I BINGE.

The binge is your brain's way of rebelling against a sudden change in diet, or a prolonged self-denial of comfort foods, and is its way of rebounding back into a safe, comfortable world.

How did you think of food before? Were you a "comfort" eater at all, did you graze without thinking too much about it, or were you very mindful of eating the foods that would most nourish your body? Try and remember the thoughts and feelings you used to have when you ate before - and compare them to the thoughts and feelings you have when you feel like bingeing now. And try and think about why you might be bingeing, too - try and have a dialogue with your inner voice, and see if there's some other deep need you might have, and are using food to supplement that need. Pay attention to what happens when you go into the "binge spiral" - are you having feelings of fear, loneliness, or self-loathing because of an event? Play "scientist" with your body and mind, and just observe the pattern for a little while. It might clue you in to what's really going on.

If you're having trouble, I can't recommend this book enough. It sounds gimmicky, but my therapist actually recommended it, and it really rings true in so many ways for me. They outline several types of dieters - you sound like you're the "Professional Dieter":

>Professional dieters [...] have usually tried the latest commercial diet, diet book, or new weight loss gimmick. Sometimes dieting takes place in the form of fasting, or "cutting back." Professional Dieters know a lot about portions of foods, calories, and "dieting tricks," yet the reason they are always on another diet is that the original one never worked.

It's time to calm down. Change is slow. Add one new change every week (or month!) and work up to your new lifestyle. Don't worry about the mistakes along the way - it's a process. Your eating habits are supposed to last for the rest of your life, and that's not something you can tackle in 2 weeks.

Most of my fave nature writers are British as I am British. Robbie Cowen's book Common Ground is a big fave and anything Richard Mabey writes is worth reading. Nature Cure deals specifically with how he dealt with a bad episode of depression. Gilbert White's Natural History of Selborne invented the whole concept of nature writing and is still an amazing read. (Selborne is not too far from where I live which helps). For something more scientific Honeybee Democracy is fascinating.

In terms of American writing Thoreau, Emerson and Leopold obviously and I love One Man's Wilderness too. Even some of Jack Kerouac's less well known books like Lonesome Traveller can be great.

I really want to get into nature writing from other parts of the world but I don't know where to start. Any recommendations?

Counter strike is great for workouts. Play a round, die, start working out, spawn, repeat. If your planning to stick to a workout, I suggest looking into things that will up convenience. I use a Thermos and it's helped my eating habits loads. I like doing soup, but hot or cold, the thermos is handy. As for in home workouts, a couple kettlebells(a 15lb and 25lb is a good start) and a door gym will get you far. For motivation I like to quantify results. Nothing better than thinking of an alteration to workouts or the diet, committing to a couple weeks, then having the idea empirically tested. I found that I have trouble with motivation when I don't know for sure that things are working.

Here is a post for a five minute stretch.

Create a YouTube playlist with these two videos. Go for a short walk in the morning and then go through the videos before you take your shower.

You can do the same thing after work and a few days a week add some gentle free weight exercises in. Here is a link for some good beginner weights:

Start small. We can do this.

I had a black dog by Matthew Johnstone. It's not a traditional book with a lot of words but pictures can sometimes be worth a thousand words. The illustrations are amazing and really strike emotions that can't always be described in words. I was recommended it during a dark patch in my life and it really struck home. Highly recommended, especially if you're looking for a slightly more simplistic way of telling someone how you feel such as kids.

no, no, /u/MattDemers really did mean "War of Art"! The title's obviously a play on Sun Tzu's work, but War of Art has to do with overcoming internal creative hurdles and the like. Here's the link to the Amazon page.

I haven't read it myself yet, but I saw it on a suggestion thread on a different subreddit a while back so it made its way onto my "look into" list.

Yes, as a matter of fact. I've read Molecules of Emotion twice. It's fascinating stuff.

There's a fantastic book on this topic, if anyone's interested, called Your Brain On Nature.

Understanding and Overcoming Depression I've found quite useful, especially the sections on how to express things to family and friends.

I LOVE these wireless Bluetooth boys — they stay put in my ears, there are buttons to play/pause, skip, adjust volume, answer calls, etc., and they are somewhat noise cancelling PLUS they’re under $40! Oh and they’re not AirPods :)

(No I don’t work for this company I just stumbled on these browsing amazon high one day and they’re amazinggg)

I'm not sure how bad it is or if they have you in a brace or not buuut if they did put a brace on it then can you use hooks?

You can get it cheaper. I always thought that if I sprained or broke my wrist I'd wrap it up in one of these

And put a forearm hook on and try to continue with basic exercises. But that really depends on the severity of it. Depending on how bad it is you may be able to macgyver your way into lifting. Like putting the hook on the center of the forearm underneath and doing curls or at the top center and doing tricep press downs. Might be able to do side deltoid lateral raises if you go slow.

You could do chestflys with a pecdeck having your arms at 90 degrees so you don't need to grip anything.

Like that but without using your hands.

For legs, hack squat/leg press machine, leg extensions, Smith machine calve raises. Either way you could still work legs very well.
