> What did you build for Yugster?

Yugster is weird, they allow you to export their POs (your orders) in CSV and also allow you to upload tracking in CSV, but they don't have FTP set up or HTTP file pickup. So the only way to get orders or upload tracking is by visiting the website. I built a software that automates the task of visiting the website to collect the order file & to upload the tracking file.

> Software that can give us average price and rank on Amazon over a period of time. CCC gives us the rank but we have to manually average it. Same goes for price. We use a tool called price checker to pull Amazon rank and other info but then we manually click each listing and use 3 camels to estimate avg rank and then use Jungle Scout to est monthly sales.

The benefit of using something like CCC is that the onus is on them to collect that data. You can build software that pings Amazon's API & tracks prices using a temporal data structure (just like CCC). The catch is that you'll only have data for as long as you've been collecting it. The history starts when you turn the software on. Or if you're willing to have someone manually transcribe from CCC's graphs, you could have their history too.

> Profit reports - All our orders run through shipworks. It would be nice to pull data from SW and our WMS and merge it to get actual profit and loss on a SKU level. Each item would need to be tagged to specify the ebay or Amazon category so the fees could be recorded.

Makes sense to me. Shipworks has an API, so collecting shipped orders (assuming the products are correctly recorded in Shipworks) and running A P&L on a sku level is feasible. Though at this point we're getting pretty far from the topic of software that I could resell. This is pretty much what I do on a day-to-day, which is to build solutions for highly specific needs. Now the name of the game is to build generic things that anyone could be willing to pay a few bucks a month to use.

Though if you want to chat, I'm happy to input my opinion.

Damn. My friend just bought 200 labels, that will probably will never get used, but it was only 8.99 with amazon prime free shipping. Also got this scale only $10.

And ordered some bubble mailers as well off amazon. I love their prime 2 day shipping.

I don't think this will really pan out. My friend is selling this stuff at basically a loss, just to build his seller rep and thinks he will expand. But I think the mkt. for vape stuff is just way to saturated/competitive.

Damn Since '99, can I ask what are some of the things you sell? (If you dont mind answering, if not its cool).

I'm trying to convince him to find something else to sell that might do better.

I just printed out my first label through ebay on regular paper, I can't believe I wasted time at the post office yesterday and paid extra for priority when I could have done it this easily.

So it just needs to be taped to the bubble mailer and its good to go? There was an instruction saying not to tape over the barcode? Any particular way I should tape it?

thanks

If you ship through ebay, you get free tracking. You'll pay more than a stamp, but at 1 oz (this is the minimum) it should only be about $1.00 $2.00, and your buyers will want tracking. Plus it automatically emails the buyer all the tracking info when you purchase the postage. It's just much simpler than doing it yourself. I would recommend shipping through ebay, especially if you are looking at a lot of volume.

I use these labels and have been pretty happy with them. Labels printed through ebay are default 4x6, but if I'm not mistaken you can edit these settings on paypal...like if you have a thermal printer or something like that. If you don't want to buy labels, you can just print them on paper and tape them to the envelope with clear packing tape.

You can use the USPS calculator to check prices at different weights.

You get 50 free listings per month, then its $0.30 per listing after that.

If you're brand new on ebay, I think there might be limits on how many items you can sell per month. Not sure what they are, though.

Edit for getting the USPS pricing wrong.

Not sure what happened, but you're definitely gonna end up eating this one so I would just take the item back if you want it back as eBay will certainly side with the buyer. Delaying the inevitable is just more likely to get you a neg too. My parents used to sell collectible hot wheel cars in blister packs like this. Collectors are the nit pickiest buyers out there, one little ding and they'll return a $500 item. If you're gonna sell collectibles like this you should package them in something like this.

Looks like a pretty good resource. Although the site is all over the place lol. I was actually looking at this book which seems like a good "reference guide/bible" http://www.amazon.com/eBay-Business-All-One-Dummies/dp/1118401662

Sorry to hear that you have problems with the weighmax, you should consider having it replaced, mine lasted 3+ years before starting to have smaller problems, and I can still use it.

I use two scales myself, I have a weighmax that is more or less crapping out on me, turns itsef on/off all the time and won't tare properly sometimes, maybe I should send it in for warranty replacement...

I've had mine for 3+ years and used it to weigh ~1500 shipments before it started acting up, and I can still use it although with a little difficulty.

The second scale I use is this:
http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-DIGITAL-DIAMOND-POCKET-SCALE/dp/B0042E4AG0/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1381201589&sr=1-1&keywords=eforcity+scale

Search for 1000g pocket scale on ebay and sort lowest price from US seller, you should not pay more than $7 for it

Since I mostly sell smaller items I can weigh ~90% of all shipments on it, it's much faster and easier to use than the weighmax scale, and it's small enough for me to keep on my desk.
Cons: battery powered, but it will last a long time still, can only handle ~2-3 lbs, somewhat difficult to weigh larger packages since you need to see the display at all times, I put an empty roll of tape on it to raise packages up and it works great
pros: small, quick, easy, extremely good accuracy, very cheap

Pick one depending on what you sell, you can always search by customer reviews on amazon

Seems to be good

I got this, it seems like a good amount of light for the money. My backdrop, I just got piece of sign from home depot that was pretty white, and a bit rigid, but still flexible, taped it to a table, and up the wall. I was pretty impressed with the light, its probably not amazing, but the price was right.

Definitely get a scale. Seriously a great investment for saving as much as possible on shipping. Every ounce counts. I bought this scale and love it. Also make sure you round up when doing USPS. If your package weighs 4.1 oz, mark it as 5.

u/ChefPD · 1 pointr/Ebay

I have this one It's very good quality and it was recommended to me by a lot of people before I purchased. Having used it myself, I vouch for it completely. Nice bright display with big numbers and seems very accurate. Also whether this is for weightloss or not, /r/loseit knows ALOT about scales.

EDIT: Nevermind.

I'd say re-stocking with items.

Boxes: If you live in a building, use the ones people throw away that you can find in the basement or go around your neighborhood and get some from the curb. I also like to reuse Amazon mailers.

Label printer: At an entry level, it's probably most cost effective to use the printer you already have or to buy a cheap laser printer like a Brother HL-L2300D that you can use to also print other stuff.

Scale: You can buy one for Amazon for ~$20-30, so I'd definitely say buy one if you don't already have one, as buying USPS (especially) labels of the correct weight via ebay/PayPal is cheaper than paying retail at the post office.

  • If you're shipping to the US, try a company like Chit Chats (they have a location in Montreal but I don't know how close to you). They will ship through USPS for you and it'll be significantly cheaper than Canada Post. They should have a price chart that will give you a good idea on how much something will cost to ship.

  • Get a Canada Post Small Business card on their website. It doesn't help much but it doesn't hurt to have it. You'll be able to send expedited parcels for the same cost as regular parcels.

  • If you're buying shipping through eBay, it'll make your life easier to have packing materials and a scale on hand. I bought this one and have no issues with it. The time it will save you at the post office makes it more than worth it.

  • I haven't bothered with a PO box. I've considered it but decided it wasn't worth the cost and haven't had any issues yet.

  • Use PayPal. You will always hear the horror stories, no one posts about PayPal unless they're having issues.

  • You can get large envelopes at the dollar store but if you're going to be doing this alot, look for shipping supplies in bulk. eBay, Amazon, Uline, Staples, etc, all have some form of materials. Do some shopping around for the lowest rates. Just don't buy the supplies from Canada Post (probably the most expensive).

  • If you are going to use Canada Post, just get the dimensions and weight filled out on your eBay listing and use calculated shipping. As long as your measurements are accurate, the buyer will be charged the proper postage cost.

You don't want to ship any clothing in a box. It's too expensive.

Anything under 1 pound should ship USPS First Class Package in a polymailer. 10x13 is the most common size, and will fit almost anything.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JKTSFNG

Anything over 1 pound goes in a USPS Priority Flat Rate Envelope (FRE). The cheapest is a regular FRE, then a legal size FRE, then a Padded FRE. Put it in the cheapest one it will fit it.

You get these for free at https://store.usps.com/store

I bought this recently, and like it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00739RFHM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The numbers stay on, but there's a backlight that turns off. When I put something on the scale the backlight comes back on. I'm quite happy with my purchase so far.

Easily the best tape I've ever used, and I've tried a number of different kinds.

They regularly go on sale for $8.99 or sometimes $7.99.

u/tielknight · 1 pointr/Ebay

Something like this Accuteck will do fine for most sellers until you get into shipping big & heavy stuff, otherwise it's all about getting your own packaging as you will get gouged at the post office(or wherever you're shipping from) if you don't use something like their Flat-Rate packaging(that's free).

Ebay is very a good source for packaging though you do want a general idea of what kind of packaging you need.

u/1977topps · 2 pointsr/Ebay

Here is the scale I use. It is $19.99 and weighs up to 75 pounds. I have used it for a few months and am very happy with it.

You need to get a scale. You should never be guessing how much something weighs.

This is the one I got. It works really well.
