I buy the SOL blankets because they're only reflective on one side (so they don't reflect heat back in, just away), and they don't crinkle or tear the way regular mylar does. They fold up nice and compact so you can keep reusing them, I've had the same ones for a couple years. I keep them on my tent with binder clips. Two of these cover the entire top of my 4-person dome tent. The amazon description doesn't mention shade, but the packaging does specifically mention that as one of it's uses.

Ideally to stay cool, you want something that allows airflow between the shade and the tent, like a canopy... but for someone like me that often travels to fests, that often isn't possible, so this is kind of the next best thing since it's nice and compact. If you can bring a canopy, that's definitely better but... not always possible.

Just the shade really helps, it's like you can feel the temperature drop when the sun goes away. I've found that between this and a tent fan, I can get some sleep through the day. It's not a miracle worker by any means, but it's a big improvement over a sunny tent. I can literally put my hand up to the wall inside my tent and feel the heat radiating in where it's uncovered, while it's cool from under the shade.

Can't solve the air temperature, though.

Here is my secret list shhhhhh... It's not cheap options that's for sure but I like being comfortable I guess, and it's stuff that will last for years of festival fun!

  1. A deep cell marine battery: Available at any auto parts store for about $120. You can then buy a cheap cigarette lighter hook up and intall it onto the battery. Then get yourself a decent 200watt power inverter, about $30. Then you can get some decent sounding speakers that plug in or a bluetooth one. Then you can charge your phone, power the speakers, or charge the bluetooth. With these speakers the battery will last 16 hours! This will also prevent you from ever messing with your car stereo or battery for any reason. Then you can just recharge it with this for next year.

  2. Blackstone's The Dash Portable Gas Grill and Griddle Combo is a great grill to cook every meal you would ever need.

  3. Not to get controversial but these and these have always done me right.

  4. Then this and this will leave you fealing like a million bucks or like someone in GL!

Honestly, I don’t think it’s really necessary. For charging, I use this portable charger to keep my phone and my boyfriend’s phone charged all four days. There’s a phone charging station in maplewoods if it runs out of juice so you have a backup option.

For lights, I just use these solar powered lights and they work great! Then I use a battery powered lantern for the camping table, another in the tent, and that’s more than enough light to be able to find everything in the dark. I also have a few solar stakes from the dollar tree that I put next to the tent lines so no one trips over the lines or stakes.

As for the speakers, I really don’t think that you need anything more than a small portable Bluetooth speaker anyway which doesn’t require much power and can just be charged at the phone charging station if necessary. I stayed in maplewoods last year and I loved how quiet and relaxing it was (my sis calls it the “retirement home of electric forest lol). I kinda think of it as the unofficial quiet camping option. If you’re looking to party after hours, the RV camp is like a two minute walk away. Of course, if you wanna have a big speaker setup, I’m sure no one will stop you, but maplewoods seems like the wrong campground to have it in bc not many people can get in, it’s generally super chill (I don’t remember anyone playing loud music after hours last year), and, again, the RV parties are right next door.

Happy (early) forest! You’ll love maplewoods, it’s honestly so great!

yoooo i know its two days later but if you havent ordered yet go for these

https://www.amazon.com/OPOLAR-Operated-Rechargeable-Portable-Personal/dp/B07FJVLDH2/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=opolar+battery+fan+micro+usb&qid=1558205565&s=electronics&sr=1-3-catcorr

plenty powerful, small enough to hold comfortably or throw on a lanyard and bring in the fest. Recharge via micro usb, will run while charging so you can bring a battery pack, AND the battery is a removable ecig battery so you can bring multiples or swap it out with your ecig battery if one dies and you need it more than the other!

seriously i cannot reccommend this fan enough, i camp regularly outside of going to festivals and after three years just one of these fans has been enough to keep me and my gf cool.

also my gf loves taking it in the festival and blasting random unsuspecting overheated folks with a gust of life giving wind. The smiles it brings are one of my favorite parts of the forest.

see you in the forest!

These work pretty great imo. Got them for when bassnectar came thru Chicago for the Spring Gathering and did not regret it.

Pros:
1.) Sound quality: They have built in attenuators, so they don't just muffle the sound. Sound quality remains solid because they still allow certain frequencies to pass through to the ear canal, but they limit the volume by about + or- 5 to 10db. That didn't sound like a lot to me when I first got them, but damn it made a difference. Woke up the next morning with no ringing or hearing fatigue.
2.) Comfort! I put these guys in right before Rezz started her set, and by the time Lorin started playing I completely forgot I had them in. I literally had keep making sure they hadn't slipped out during the show because I couldn't feel them in my ears after I adjusted.
3.) Clear Coated: Not proud of it, but am definitely self conscious about showing my age and didn't wanna be judged by anyone for wearing ear plugs and looking old as shit in a crowd that's usually a couple years younger than me lol (I know it's irrational, leave me be. I'm old, god damnit.) But it's really honestly hard to tell someone has them in unless you're standing next to them or really looking hard. So there's that also.
4.) Storage: They come with a tiny clear case for storage that doesn't take up too much pocket space.

Cons:
1.) Expensive: They cost 40$...as far as ear plugs go that's more than most. So if you're like me and lose a lot of shit (especially when I'm at shows) be cautious getting them. Haven't lost them yet, but festival season is upon us, so we'll see if I can manage to keep track of 'em.

Definitely recommend them if you trust yourself not to lose them!

u/marxx8 · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

I've used both dubs and etymotics for earplugs and prefer etymotics because they are more comfortable.

I like decorating my campsite with tapestries they give your campsite a nice look :)

I also bring an inflatable lazy air bag to lounge in. Can be used at campsite or take it with you to the stages and can chill in it. I love mine and people always want to sit in it!

I bring a portable lantern and fan and this one combines the two so it's great you can see it here.

We all gotta eat so I bring a small propane gas grill. This one is affordable.

A portable charger is a must have.

For drinks, I like to pour it in my disco ball cup. It's a fun way to drink and I always get compliments on it!

u/HonorRose · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

KindCreations has already mentioned most of the important ones to take before/during, altough I would not take 5-HTP before rolling (too much may increase chances of serotonin syndrome - but this depends on the individual) but rather, save it for the day after to help boost serotonin production. I would recommend this compound the day after.

u/zebbielm12 · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

I have this one that I really like. It’s a bit heavier than the one you listed, but it’s very sturdy. Fits an eno doublenest perfectly.

Best Choice Products Portable 10' Hammock Stand W/Cup Holder Accessory Tray and Carrying Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAVPFAP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ap1vCb08XMD8C

u/treerabbit · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

I have this one and it's pretty nice-- sturdy but "portable" (not like quick pop-up or lightweight, but it means you can put it in your car to/from EF a lot more easily than some of the other ones)

also the cupholder is pretty clutch

u/ASOT550 · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

So as someone who has never owned a hammock, and isn't really sure if he needs one, should I get this? Seems like a good deal, and with these straps it only comes out to like $50. Should I make the impulse buy? I'm also going to a few other camping festivals, (Counterpoint and Tomorrowland, possibly Tomorrowworld) does it make the festival experience much better?

u/SpartansATTACK · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

I bought this one. Easy to set up, it's designed for bar hammocks, but it fits an ENO DoubleNest perfectly fine. Comes with a cupholder too which is always nice.

And finally, I will never attend another festival again without this stuff, it is a foaming body wash that does not require water. We use it at my work all the time for bed baths and whatnot, so I thought I would try it for a festival and it works quite well. It doesnt get you as clean as a normal shower but this and baby wipes can keep you feeling fresh the whole weekend (just dont use it on hair)

I’m looking to get some earplugs and heard etymotics are pretty good. Now my question is what’s the difference between this one ($25) Vs this one ($20)

Upon reading it seems like the $20 ones have inserts that stick out whereas the $25 are more like regular earbuds. Anyone have any advice on which to get? I will probably wear a bandana so I don’t want the plugs getting caught or pulled out

That's the shower tent I have. It's super sturdy and can hold a 5 gallon bag no problem. The bladder that comes with this tent sucks. Intex solar bags are about $7 each on Amazon and much higher quality so we ordered 8 of them so we have 40 gallons of usable hot water, not only for showering, but also for washing dishes and whatnot. There is nothing like having the freedom to shower at a camping festival.

u/zprater1 · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

I know this is a little pricey, but it was well worth it for me.. I use a ZODI instant hot water shower, comes with a carrying case which can also be used to hold the shower water, a pump, propane heating unit, and shower head/hose... I bought one that was barely used off eBay and I'm soo happy I did. Who can beat instant hot water??

Here's one that uses actual instant film https://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-Instax-Mini-Instant-Camera/dp/B06WW64YM6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1549304170&sr=8-5&keywords=fuji+instax

Here's one that is digital and prints the photos as you take them- https://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-Instant-Digital-Printing-Technology/dp/B015JIAGE2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1549304216&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=polaroid+digital&psc=1

And here's a portable printer so you can just print photos from your phone https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Wireless-Bluetooth-Portable-Printer/dp/B07C68MS2H

I've used both of the first 2. The Fuji instax photos look best but getting them to come out good with lighting can be tricky and the film is expensive. I wouldn't reccomend the instant print polaroid. The pictures rarely came out good in my experience.
I haven't had experience with the pocket printer but they seem really nifty.

THANK YOU. I did not know that. The actual product I use (as cheesy as the title is) is Rave-On. Its a mixture of 5-htp, antioxidants, and electrolytes. I use it after single night shows and love it. But I will def look into that because that does make me nervous. Thanks for looking out for a brother!

something like this

paired with this

and you're set for like 30 bucks

or you could just bring a black 5 gal bucket, fill it up in the morning and let it sit in the sun to warm up and just dunk a washcloth in there to wipe down and use wet wipes on the naughty bits. that would cost you like 4 dollars.

or, you could skip the tent part all together and just plop that bag on the roof of your car and spray yourself down in your underwear/swimsuit or naked if that's your thing...

edit: never tried the shower trailers, heard they aren't too bad though.

u/hTACO · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

I had a nice pair, ended up losing them one night. Earplugs are surprisingly easy to lose, especially if you're like me and have to take them out to talk to people.
I buy these (standard size) now -
https://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-ETY-Plugs-Fidelity-Earplugs-Standard/dp/B0015WJQ7A/ref=lp_2529393011_1_1_a_it?srs=2529393011&ie=UTF8&qid=1527092044&sr=8-1&th=1
They're cheap, work well, and if I lose them it's no big deal. I'll also buy a pair to give to a friend if it's their first club show or festival.

u/sassysaucer · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

I got Dubs last year and really liked them. They're comfortable and worked well for what I wanted. And dang, they're ten bucks cheaper than when I bought them last year.

u/rinzeefurippo · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

Thanks Amazon Black Friday! This battery is a beast, 6.5 full charges for an iPhone 7, about 5 or 6 for a Samsung, and you can charge multiple devices at once.

u/ohmybrown · 4 pointsr/ElectricForest

these are hands down the best ear plugs I have ever owned and totally worth the money. Make it sound wayyyyy crisper and I will never go to a show without them.

Got the girlfriend this gem for lounging around at camp.

u/FlexPointe · 6 pointsr/ElectricForest

Hi! You're in for such an amazing time :) Last year I purchased a cheap solar powered battery/charger off amazon which I failed to test and didn't work...womp womp. This year I have this power bank and I highly recommend it: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-20100-Capacity-Technology/dp/B00X5RV14Y It can charge your phone 6-7 times.

Last year one of my crew got a glass handle of liquor in, but I think this was only because it was buried under beer. The website does say no liquor so I'd suggest trying to hide it. Curious if others have been able to get past security wit liquor as long as it's not in glass.

As far as what else to bring--you can never have too many wet wipes!!

Do it. I got this hammock stand from Amazon.

when i sleep at night I lay a sleeping bag down in my hammock and lay on top of it. then cover myself with a blanket. Then you can flop each side of your hammock over top of yourself like a cocoon. Slept in mine this weekend, it was better than any night of sleep in a tent I've ever gotten.

u/Subaudible91 · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest
  1. University Customs makes pretty much all of the flags you're seeing on the subreddit lately.

  2. Use something like this flag pole at your campsite.

  3. Totems are sorta vague in their limitations. I used a telescoping pole similar to this, and got past security with no issue. Once inside I extended it out further so it was far above the crowd.
u/jhams13 · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

You'll definitely be roughing it in GA. Portapotties only and $10 a shower. My friends and I brought a portable camp shower this year and it helped tremendously https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-2000014865-5-Gallon-Solar-Shower/dp/B0009PUT20

Invest in a pair of earplugs meant for live music. I use a pair of DUBS but a set of V-Modas works just as well.

NO ONE LIKES TINNITUS.

u/zNNS · 13 pointsr/ElectricForest

There are showers there. I think they cost $10 and they're usually not the warmest.

I don't think I've ever taken a shower at fest (gross I know). What a lot of people do is buy solar showers and use those. Yeah, they're not quite as thorough but they do the trick.

I'm basically married at this point so I have nobody to impress.

They're a little pricey, but a solar shower always did me well. They're like $15-$20 at dicks or target. It's a black vinyl bag with a hose that you fill with water and leave in the sun. It's not a perfect replacement, but for rinsing off the grungy bits, it beats 10 bucks a day

u/fwump38 · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

This is what I just recently bought for forest and was recommended by several people here: http://amzn.com/B000OWNMRM

It's a telescoping flagpole with stand (you drive your car over it to keep it standing). It's for the campsite which I wasn't sure if that's what you were asking.

If you're looking for a flag pole for in the forest I think a telescoping lightbulb inserter for tall ceilings could easily be converted into something more portable.

u/gamefreak027 · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

Ok this has been discussed a few times already but it's reasonable.

I personally have this Anker Battery. It can charge a phone from dead to full about 6 times.

Since I share it with my girlfriend we usually go through it + have other people camped with us so we received an Anker Solar Charger for Christmas. It works slowly but gets the job done.

There are also locker rentals available inside the forest. In addition to a place to store things in the festival grounds (Things can be left overnight) They give you a little battery and a charger dongle. When it is dead you bring it back and they give you a new one all weekend. Locker rentals are $50.

The cheapest way however is to charge it in your car XD

u/omegamjolnir · 15 pointsr/ElectricForest

If I could only give one recommendation... If you don't have earplugs, buy a pair or two of these.
http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-ETY-Plugs-Protection-Earplugs/dp/B0015WJQ7A

It will change your festival experience, guaranteed. There is nothing like being close enough to feel the music - but at a volume that's not pounding your ears to death. There will be more space in the sound to tell things apart, and you'll be less fatigued at the end of the night.

If you're experimenting with chemistry, it's a chance to pull them out here and there and cycle through hearing with a fresh set of ears. Or to place extra emphasis on your favorite song in a set.

u/ItsAccrualWorld6 · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

I used a solare panel to attempt to keep things charged at my last forest. There simply wasn't enough sun/ amperage making it any devices to charge them.

I personally wI'll be steering away from solar and expanding my stash of battery powered devices including fans, lights, and most importantly battery back ups for charging phones.

I remember the first time I went to a festival, it was EDC Orlando 2014. I bought a pair of Etymotics but I forgot them at home the first day. Holy hell my ears were ringing all night. I made sure to keep them with me at all times after that.

u/PsychedelicVisions · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

I bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Flagpole-Ultimate-Tailgaters-Package-Portable/dp/B000OWNMRM

Cost $65 and then it was snapped in half when the little storm came and none of my neighbors stuff was staked down. Their sleeping tent and canopy tent wrapped around my entire car, it scratch and dented the fuck out of the car and broke my flag pole. They found this funny and didn't even help untangle all their shit from our shit. I'm still a little bitter in case you can't tell

As far as that flag pole I had it for 2 years, it works really really well, it stood up to all sorts of storms and high wind, was really well made as well. It goes under the tire of your car to keep the base of it in place. I think it held up well, it just couldn't withstand all of my neighbors possessions smashing in to it at a high velocity.
