I recommend reading Peter Zeleinka's info and watching his tutorials here: https://www.peterzelinka.com/star-tracker-tutorials.

I decided on the iOptron SkyGuider Pro: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07199QMR6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

After stacking the photos and making some tone curve adjustments in LightRoom, I just uploaded the resulting image to reddit.

This one http://www.amazon.com/Promaster-Variable-Neutral-Density-Filter/dp/B005CAHOCK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415129509&sr=8-1&keywords=promaster+variable+nd+filter

I work in a camera shop so got it for pretty cheap. It works good until the darkest 1/3rd of rotation, where it leaves REALLY BAD black borders and vignetting. I can get 3 second exposures at f22 in extremely bright sunlight without getting the borders. I'd recommend it.

Edit: I have the 72mm not the 77mm

They are sometimes called "barn doors", or a Hinge Tracker. You can get them on Amazon for around ~$300usd

Edit: here's one

This one to be specific: https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Timer-Remote-Canon-D2000/dp/B005LT7CE2/

I was able to dig this up from my Amazon Order History

I bought this one, but I just saw others for a lot less on Amazon. I searched 'Panoramic Head'.

If you're not comfortable changing the firmware on your camera, an intervalometer like this one is a cheap solution to taking a series of exposures without needing to be near the camera.

Yeah. Ill check the post on how to take the long exposure shots. I got This BW 10 stop filter, Do you know if BW is a good company to buy filters from?

An intervalometer is used in photography to automatically take a series of photographs. It lets you set the duration of the exposure and the amount of time between exposures.

An intervalometer can be implemented as hardware or software.

Some cameras have an intervalometer built in.

Reframe the nebula back to center every 50-100 photos then align in post. There's a few programs that will do this, Rotnstack, DeepSkyStacker.

But title is not adding up. 113 frames and 685 seconds would be 6.1 second exposures. Anything over 2 seconds would show star trails. Maybe OP used a combination, stacking and a star tracker.

I've always wondered how to do this. I thought i had to get one of these things and keep in open for 3-4 hours.

u/SPYALEX8 · 2 pointsr/ExposurePorn

What were the settings for the image you took? I'm not 100% sure if this is right, but I think those usually occur with higher F stops. I would try something like a 30 second exposure of a light stopped at around F/15 or higher (maybe all the way up) with ISO adjusted accordingly and see if that changes what is occurring. If it doesn't do it, it might just not occur with your lens, but you could buy some Point Star Filters and force it to happen in a more pronounced way.

Half of the color in the light is actually the color of the hula hoop. I used a battery powered white fairy light wrapped around a red and yellow hula hoop. I hit the trigger at the height of throw and cut it as soon as it hit the ground and the camera was at F2.8 with an ISO of 800 if i remember correctly.

You use a neutral density filter. It cuts down on the amount of light that hits the sensor so you can leave the shutter open for longer periods of time.
