I rarely find anybody out in the world who is as passionate about history and games as I am, much less on this forum. I didn't even know what reddit was until my girlfriend talked me into checking it out; I came up with the old forums and used to learn a lot from people with similar interests in the early 00's but ever since having children I've mainly been away from any form of social media or messaging boards. But because I learned that reddit has subforums for such particular interests, I've stuck around, but have certainly noticed the level of general intelligence to be about what kept me from partaking in online discussions for so long initially. But that's ok, because occasionally I'll find somebody from somewhere out in the world like you and those brief but deeply meaningful encounters of sharing passions with a stranger make it worth it, and truly there is much to learn here if one is willing to tolerate the gross amounts of tedium and juvenille humor.
What you said about Alexander is precisely how I feel about him; I've read more than one account of his life (from the shorter 'moral essays' of Plutarch, the accounts of the wars in general of Diodorus Siculus, to the lengthier rivals of Arrian like Quintus Curtius Rufus) and even where you can tell there has been exaggeration, the key points of his life for which we can be absolutely certain of are literally on the level of a legend or myth, not so disimillar to those epic figures of the Icelandic Sagas! Like you, my interest in history is broad; I'm not a specialist, in fact I dropped out of high school and spent most of my twenties in crippling heroin addiction before I got my shit together and sought help, but I've had a voracious appetite for books since I was a child and have never stopped obsessively learning.
Asides from those general Mediterranean ancient historical cultures, I am also deeply interested in the Scandinavian both pre-history and Viking era (currently reading the Heimsrkingla, in fact!), the numerous Turks and origins of the 'barbarian' tribes like the Scythians and the Alans and general Eurasian steppe cultures (especially when we get ancient or medieval accounts from the likes of missionaries of merchants of the shamanic religious beliefs), the Huns and the Khanate Empires, the Spanish conquistadors and the original conquests of Mexico and Peru (am a huge fan of histories of Francisco Pizarro), the nomadic Lapps and the Kievan Rus, the Islamic Caliphate and the entirety of the Cruades from both angles, &c I could go on of course, but each of these cultures are those of whom I've recently read accounts of and thoroughly enjoy learning about. Quite possibly if I had to narrow down the single most pertinent book that covers a huge amount of most of my historical interests in as comprehensive and detailed a manner possible, it would be the Yule-Cordier edition of Marco Polo's Travels. Its available in a 2 volume edition of some nearly 1,700 pages for very cheap paperback prices online, I'm currently re-reading it right now (along with Runciman's 3 volume History of the Crusades) for the third (!) time, and I learn more every time I pick it up. Seriously, if you are interested in any of those cultures, this book draws its sources in the notes (which alone constitute probably 1,300 of those pages) from works taken from all around the world, from the ancients like Pliny and Herodotus, to obscure Arabic and Persian, Indian and Malay Archipelago, Chinese ancient and modern, native and missionary, &c. I just cannot recommend it highly enough, unless of course you're already familiar with it, lol.

Also, thank you for expressing that you feel simliary about the original Fallout games. I have a passion for them which I very rarely find shared by other people, at least not in person, and its frustrating that still 20 years later so many people go on completely oblivious to what they are missing, content to play the Bethesda games, or even New Vegas without having any notion to whom Cass is referring, or Marcus, or Tabitha and the Nightkin, the Followers of the Apocalypse, the Bozar gun and or 'That Gun', the references to the families of New Reno, and so on. If you don't mind sharing, might I ask you where you're from? You express yourself perfectly well for not being a native English speaker. I'm from Philadelphia in the US.
So, hard drives are not a problem, i have a 2tb seagate (HDD) drive I use for xbox but can switch to my pc through usb, (dont care if its a lil slower) I just found a pc, a little over my price range but is good, only bad thing is it has integrated, but besides that it looks perfct https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076D71Q4L/ref=twister_B07KJJFXQ3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Someone also recomended to buy a low profile video card in the reivews,"Is it good for gaming
**Answer:**I installed a low profile, high end video card, (ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Low Profile 4GB GDDR5 128-bit Gaming Graphics Card ZT-P10510E-10L (Amazon)) and it is awesome! High performance for a cheap price. I added extra 8GB of ram to it (16Gb total) and a 1TB HDD. The only dislike is the small power supply. The computer is very easy to work on. I would recommend it. I love this PC very fast. Good for a gaming PC? I think so!"

Which I could just look up a tutorial on how to do, have to save up for the extra card but in the meantime it could run FNV with a few heavy mods not a hundred though. I do know how cheap ram is right now but with christmas this is pretty much all I can do.

Seems like a good buy?
Every now and then I power up a 2013 laptop with a 4th generation dual core Intel Core i5-4200u and Intel HD 4400 to play Fallout 3 at 1080p and medium graphic settings. It is pretty playable with an average of a little more than 30 FPS. That is without using any performance enhancing mods or graphic mods.
A budget laptop with an 8th gen Core i3-8130u and Intel UHD 620 graphics core will not have any problems running the game at 1080p using high settings and getting 50+ FPS on average. Beware that FO3 do not officially recognize Intel HD graphic cores so you need to install the Intel HD Graphics Fix from Nexusmods; basically you need to place the custom d3d9.DLL file in the Fallout 3 GOTY folder to get the game up and running. FNV has no problems with Intel graphic cores.
The following Acer Aspire E15 laptop is the least expensive laptop with a Core i3-8130u, Intel UHD 620 graphics core, 6GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive and a 1080p screen for $329.
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=i3-8130u+laptop&qid=1566919832&s=electronics&sr=1-3
Alternatively, you can buy the following Asus VivoBook 15 F512FA-AB34 for $349 which a more sleeker and lighter laptop. It has the slightly more powerful i3-8145u, the same Intel UHD 620, 8GB of RAM, 1080p screen and 128GB SSD. The 128GB SSD is really small but a lot faster than a hard drive so the laptop should be able to boot into Windows in roughly 20 to 25 seconds as opposed to perhaps 75 to 90 seconds with a hard drive. Programs will generally launch faster making the laptop feel more responsive. There is a 2.5" empty drive bay so at least you can install a 2.5" hard drive or 2.5" SSD for more storage space.
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VivoBook-i3-8145U-Windows-F512FA-AB34/dp/B07RK5M35T/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=AMD+Ryzen+5+3500U&qid=1566919931&refinements=p_n_feature_eleven_browse-bin%3A13580795011&s=pc&sr=1-11

If you can bump up your budget to $478, then the following 14" Asus VivoBook F412DA is overall a better laptop for "light" games. It seems to be the least expensive laptop with a 1080p that has a quad core Ryzen 5 3500u APU with a Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics core. It also has 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. There should be a 2.5" bay to install a 2.5" hard drive or 2.5" SSD for more storage. The Vega 8 graphics core is roughly similar to a nVidia 940m dedicated GPU. As a comparion the Intel UHD 620 is less powerful than the nVidia 920m, but better than the 910m. The Vega 8 is nowhere near as powerful as a GTX 1050 from 2016, but for an integrated GPU to be roughly as powerful as the nVidia 940m is impressive.

Sorry about the watermarks, I can currently only edit photos using my phone. I didn't mean for them to be xbox huge. :s Also, I took most of these with instagram in mind, hence why some of these have weird spacing on the sides. ANYWAY. The recent poll results have inspired me to try and be more active, so here's a bunch of crap I've been working on since the beginning of the year!
AAAND JUST FOR FUN here's a photo of Tim Cain enjoying the Vault 13 flask I posted here back in December, no big deal. I totally did not freak out, nope not at all. Anyway, thanks for looking/reading!! Hopefully my post covered everything but if you guys (and gals) have any questions, ask away~

>Because Fortnite is doing something doesn't make it right. And it doesn't give someone else a pass to do that.
And yet Fortnite is praised for their set up and defends how it works against every criticism. And their peak they were literally making millions a day off the sales of skins.

>Rockstar released a complete single player GTAV and RD2 - and all the singleplayer content is in the MP games right from the start.
No they don't there was literally jack shit to do in GTA Online on release in free roam besides kill players and rob stores. Literally all the content at the time was contact missions, races and death matches which took place in lobbies and not free roam. RDR2 Online had all of Rockstar's history of GTA online to pull from as well as previous RDR online and still a massive multi billion dollar company did nothing but copy and past a few basic fetch quests and hunting and fishing into online mode. Then they spent the next what 4 or 5 months in beta for RDR2 so they could validate all the rebalancing because they some how thought an hour of work to earn .15 was a good thing when a good gun costs $10.00.

The only thing single player and multiplayer shares between them is game assets. Which incidentally people complained about Bethesda just flipping game assets from FO4 and giving players an empty unfinished (in their words) game.

>Fortnite doesn't have a single player game.
https://www.amazon.com/Fortnite-PlayStation-4/dp/B071WNVX56/ref=sr_1_20?keywords=fortnite&qid=1554410049&s=gateway&sr=8-20&th=1

Yes it does it is a horde mode game system. The BR game mode was a last minute addition by Epic based off the growing popularity of games like PUBG. And much like how Rockstar they dropped the single player game in favor of the money maker. Because when GTA 5 was released rockstar said they would release updates for online and story mode. At least until online showed to be more of a cash cow and dropped all story mode updates for the game to focus exclusively on online updates.

>RD2 and GTAV you are paying for SP content and then getting a free MP mode.
Then why isn't it a separate free to download game? Shit Lost and the Damned was originally DLC for GTA 4 and yet they released that as a stand alone game.
EDIT: Seriously AVOID. Curiosity got the better of me and I had to find out if anyone had bought it. Someone did and their review seems to have been deleted. Thankfully, this is the internet! Here's a archive link to part of the original review: https://web.archive.org/web/20150217203657/https://www.amazon.com/FALLOUT-The-Descendants-Vaults-42/dp/1478718196#customerReviews
Original:
If you haven't already made the purchase then I'm going to advise you to avoid it. If reading the back of the book gives any insight into the quality of what lies inside then its going to be rough.
Take the first sentence on the back: "The Vault Tec Corp manages to build 122 across America, and annexed Canada". Okay; they built 122 what? Missiles? Cars? Yes we know he means 122 vaults, but the sentence never tells us that. Sure you might say "well what else would 'Vault Tec Corp' make", but lets be honest if he's leaving out a word here then what else will he leave out? The comma before the "and" doesn't make sense to me either (not a writer so maybe i'm wrong). The whole back is full of short, choppy, and generally poorly constructed sentences. None of that gives me a good impression.
"Nuclear fallout had revamp the world." An editor or even just a second look could have "revamp" this into something readable, but it seems it didn't happen. Again avoid! This isn't worth $20.
Awesome thanks for the information definitely needed as I’m getting a laptop strictly for gaming. On a side not I looked up the fallout anthology aka mini nuke on amazon and the customer question section is a must read I got a good laugh.

First off, you are good peoples.
Secondly, the best place to check would be Etsy - there are handmade Fallout items on there for just about everything, from clothing to household items. You could ask him in general about the game(s) and see if he mentions any particular favourite characters/factions and get merchandise associated with them.
Or you could go the official route and consider:
If you have any questions feel free to PM me :)
lol. Good point.

EDIT: Decided to change my flair in the face of infallible logic. Don't worry, I won't have you lashed to a cross like the rest of these degenerates. It's useful that you happened by.
Thermoplastic is a plastic you can heat up (this one is done with hot water but some, like worbla (which comes in sheets), are done with a heat gun) to make it more malleable so you can make stuff out of it. The hotter the water, the more time you have to work with it until it cools. If it cools too early, you can just dunk it back into hot water to make it softer again. It also sticks to itself if you warm up both ends of the pieces you want to stick together, so you don't need any special glue to keep it together and it's a lot sturdier than using glue.
This one comes in a plastic bead form that you can put in hot water to soften and then mold it like clay. Once it cools, it's really solid and sturdy and, if you mess up, you can just heat it up again and reshape it.
I got my 12 Oz jar of instamorph on Amazon for $20 and I still haven't gone through it completely making my props for my Lone Wanderer cosplay since a little bit goes a long way (I always end up with extra pieces I just cut up to melt back down for next time). There is also a 34 Oz jar which is $40 and both are Amazon Prime eligible. You can also buy pigments to melt down with them to dye the plastic so it's not just white when it cools but I personally prefer painting it since I already have paint and it takes paint really well.
EDIT: Here is a link to the amazon posting. It's actually $16.99 right now. :)
https://www.amazon.com/Fallout-Vault-Armored-Laptop-Backpack/dp/B01JXAKHZA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479690575&sr=8-1&keywords=vault+111+backpack
EDIT: I bought one at Dragon*Con this year, and it's a really nice backpack in general. The pouches are great, the texture's nice, and the color is just right so that it doesn't clash with anything you might be wearing.
I don't think they are in the habit of posting really good quality versions of concept art - they know there's a market for that, so they offer products like the fallout 4 art book and even prints of the art. The image at the top of the digital version of the article is frankly even better than most of the digital versions of Fallout 4's concept art.
This is the closest you'll probably get (at least, that I can think of). A cooling pad would also be a good idea for any gaming.
Could you say why a desktop isn't an option? For $700 you could easily build something that would run Fo4 beautifully
Apologies to everyone. I hadn't been on Reddit much. Anyways, thanks for all of the replies. I'll probably buy this: http://www.amazon.com/Fallout-Anthology-PC/dp/B012E58DFC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452387218&sr=8-1&keywords=fallout+collection
Or Just buy Fallout 3 & Fallout: NV from Steam.
Thanks everyone!
I'd like to experience the older titles.
Yep. Fallout Anthology. I think it retailed at $50? Good luck finding even a used one at that price.
They did and it ran out quick. It's just a rebranded jones blue raspberry lemonade as far as I know, which I've had and is pretty good.
On Amazon it's 25 pounds for the hardcover, or you could buy the kindle version for 15 pounds.
I think I'll buy it sometime during the Summer, the concept art in Fallout games is always fascinating to me for some reason.

Pretty sure they did that at Target in the states.
Edit: With Jones

I'm sure I'm just being impatient, I am just hoping it wasn't a deadline.
It's been on Amazon for $18 off and on for a couple months. I got it at this price back in jul or aug.
$20 right now with Prime free shipping

Small price changes are so common on Amazon that there's even a website dedicated to tracking them.

The Trilogy is $18.49 on Amazon, $6 each at Good Old Games (GOG), or $10 each on Steam, and I occasionally see it in Meijer or Walmart for $10-15 when they are clearing things out.
you mean like this?
https://www.amazon.com/Fallout-Anthology-PC/dp/B012E58DFC/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1527627979&sr=1-4&keywords=fallout+collection
Hmm, it used to be on Gog.com, but I just checked and it seems to have been removed there as well.
There is still this: http://www.amazon.com/Fallout-Trilogy-3-Pack-Compilation-Pc/dp/B001V9PTVE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396571000&sr=8-1&keywords=fallout
Here you go, you can also find it in stores like Target and book stores.
If you can't download it on Steam, you can buy the CD on Amazon. The disc doesn't include the full game, so you'll have to download some parts from Steam before playing, but it shouldn't be that bad.
I got it to work when I don't use fullscreen because I had a controller plugged in, but it still crashes full screen. This is the laptop I am playing on.
There is a licensing issue (between whom I forget) but you can snag this three pack on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Fallout-Trilogy-3-Pack-Compilation-Pc/dp/B001V9PTVE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398501348&sr=8-1&keywords=fallout
FALLOUT: The Descendants of Vaults 42, 43 & 55 has some similarities to the Fallout series, but there are a fair number of things changed and the book doesn't appear to have been proofread. In fact, it's arguable that it was written so terribly on purpose.
They did team up with Jones Soda a few years ago for Nuka Cola Quantum. Surprised they haven't done anything else.

Well they do still have the limited edition jones soda one on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Nuka-Cola-Quantum-Fallout-Jones/dp/B016ZEGTBS

New Vegas All Roads by Chris Avellone
I second the Fallout Bible also made by Chris Avellone.
Also someone wrote this I say wrote but to be blunt I imagine it was more of a regurgitation. Don't read it.
It's almost half off on Amazon right now.
Jones soda did a partnership to make Nuka Cola Quantum.
