A well known aca-fan edited a fanfiction reader with some great and classic fics in it, including one of my personal all-time favorites, Lunch and Other Obscenities. You could recommend it as a place for interested readers to explore further.

Lena Eskilsson wrote Phantom of the Opera fanfic and then did something pretty neat. A new, previously unpublished chapter of POTO was found in Paris. She translated it from the original French into both Swedish and English, and published it in a small volume along with some critique and a few of her own fanfics.

I had the honor of being credited as one of her editors / beta readers for the manuscript.

Another POTO writer, Jennifer Linforth, wrote fanfics and later published them as the Madrigal series.

The book that had the biggest impact on how I write was Peter Elbow's Writing without Teachers, which introduced the concept of freewriting. The book's central message: "Don't edit while you create!"

The other book that had a large impact on how I view myself as a writer, and the purpose of writing in general, was John Gardenr's On Moral Fiction.

Susie's Bright's How to Write a Dirty Story has great advice on writing in general, as well as writing erotica.

I've also heard that Stephen King's book on writing is pretty good, though I haven't read it.

Yass, cutting my hair is so addictive! I've been struggling with the shoulder demons over more than a trim for a while now, so it's a bit of relief to have it done with.

That specialist sounds completely ridiculous, I betcha you nailed it cutting it yourself! But like, some of those youtube tutorials, man. Woo-wee, the skill level they assume the viewer has sometimes...

Video: "And then you take your hair, flip it through the 8th dimension while singing, a simple snip here at a precise 37-degree angle, and voila!" Hair falls into a perfect up-do with diamonds and rainbows.

Me: Sobs in the corner with vodka.

But, y'know, it's not actually a lot of skill when I use a clipper with extra long guards on it lol. I'm rockin' a hella sweet wild pixie/Einstein look again now. ;)

This is awesome of you to do!

OC Name: Bai Rangui (pronounced Bye Ran Gway)

A foreign arsonist active in Beijing, the other characters have to hunt the criminal Bai Rangui down. He is American, in his mid-twenties, Caucasian, and has shaggy, dark brown hair. He is clean-shaven, and has dark brown eyes that hold no warmth (despite his occupation). He often is seen wearing a black Mao suit, a black cap with a red star on it like this, and a face mask with a small filter on it (he wears such strange clothes is to hide his identity, and also throw cops off looking for a foreigner in a Mao suit while he can easily wear another shirt underneath, take the tunic and cap off, and look like a completely different person that the cops won't pay attention to). When not wearing the face mask, he has a crazy smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes.

In case it isn't obvious, Bai Rangui is meant to be the main antagonist of the story, and the main characters have to work to bring him down.

Thanks again for the offer to do this, it's really nice of you to do!

A Contrary Wind: a variation on Mansfield Park

An excellent new version of Mansfield Park, by Jane Austen. It's a fast-paced, character-driven novel that stays true to the language and tone of the original.
