So are you abroad and the teacher is Finnish and he's leaving back to Finland? Maybe he has stayed a year or two abroad? Any details would be helpful.

While Sauna is very Finnish I doubt it makes good presents, especially for a male. Sauna hat, perhaps?. Here's another. It's funny, it's got the red star of Soviet Finland (SF).

Maybe something more generic, like Finnish chocolate

I have a dog and have tried pretty much every removal tool, this twisty style works the best, you can get them in the pharmacy - https://www.amazon.co.uk/OTom-02-3785-Otom-Tick-Twister/dp/B0089BOK12

Good choice to recommend Unknown Soldiers. Here's a pic of my English language copy that I bought in the Academic Bookstore (Akateeminen Kirjakauppa). http://imgur.com/HNVadP3

This book is about the Continuation War, which out of context makes it sound like the Finns were Allied with the Nazi's, when the real situation was much more complicated.

For some real context on Unknown Soldiers I would recommend getting your hands on a copy of The Diplomacy of The Winter War by Max Jakkobson https://www.amazon.com/Diplomacy-Winter-War-Russo-Finnish-1939-1940/dp/0674209508

And then you will understand the whole breadth of the Soviet Invasion of Finland in 1939 and why Finland was so trapped they felt the need to fight alongside Germany, but not be actual allies or part of the Axis.

Historically speaking, Finland even fought a war against Nazi Germany also, called The Lapland War.

Enough war talk... you can impress this girl maybe by googling The Kalevala, the Finnish epic poem, and it's compiler, Elias Lonrot.

Music. There is a TON of great Finnish music... start basic pop... Jenni Vartianen https://youtu.be/PKidLh1Ryq4

Halloo Helsinki. https://youtu.be/6IhnydCct80

A huge collection of Finnish Hip Hop here, a lot of which is excellent, Suomi Rap / Finnish Rap: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD1E1556872EEE682

And then of course Nightwish for your introduction to Finnish Metal (best metal in the world is from Finland) https://youtu.be/Lj7WrKfw6n0

Good luck!

A really great trilogy (even if the translation is a little clumsy at times) is "Under the North Star" (Täällä Pohjantähden alla) by Väinö Linna.

Can be found on Amazon for example.

To someone like me who doesn't own a car, paying 16€ is well worth the hour per parcel that picking the stuff up would take. Just the bus tickets would cost 9€. Especially during winter. My orders are typically delivered in 2-3 parcels, in northern Helsinki.

Stuff like:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0089NDVGK
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00RMJJ5A8
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005S1DYMW
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00R3KPYHE

Kesko and Sokos home deliveries are about 10€ per delivery, with a very limited selection.

Off topic: when these Gillette blades run out, I've decided to switch to Amazon's own store brand blades called Solimo, which seem to cost a fraction of the Gillette prices, which makes sense.

http://www.amazon.com/Beginners-Finnish-Hippocrene-CDs/dp/0781812283/ref=pd_sim_b_1 this is the book I thought would help the most. Do you agree or should I keep looking?

For fastest solution you can buy this or similar before: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Huawei-Ultra-Fast-Unlocked-E5577s-321-Portable/dp/B01BIQL7N8/ref=sr_1_1?s=clothing&ie=UTF8&qid=1503239856&sr=8-1&keywords=Huawei+E5577s+LTE and then just go to dna/elisa/telia shop or r-kioski (https://www.r-kioski.fi/tuotteet/prepaid-liittymat/) and buy 4G 1-month prepaid (those are unlimited data usually), just put sim inside and you are good to go. Then you have 1 month to find out if you can get fiber, cable, adsl or continue with 4G.

Something like this I assume. Restaurants and bars use that velcro fiber mop, so I bet that if you try a local tukku store, you can find it.

Here's a list of worthwhile Finnish movies I posted month ago.

As mentioned in the post, you could try to order the discs from discshop.fi. I don't know whether they post abroad or how much p&p is, you should probably contact them.

I take it you are from Japan? Amazon.co.jp seems to carry Talvisota.

Buy a De Buyer carbon steel pan instead, it will outlast you and you don't poison yourself with teflon. Only 37.08e

Ssshhh... Trade secrets. You might get down voted for criticising a loved institution. Now you have got me on my complaining horse again about the state of cheese in the country. The problem is once you have tasted something with a flavour and body, the 'normal rubbish' is often a disappointment.

Someone told me this "cheese" was imported to the United States. I did not believe them. My mistake. Mind you, compared to some of the cheeses that exist in the Country it might be liquid gold. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Finlandia-Imported-Oltermanni-Baby-Muenster-Cheese-8-oz/21805071. Hehe I bought this cheese once from Amazon in England. It was a very strange experience squeezing cheese out of a bottle. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mature-Squeezy-Cheddar-Cheese-Pack/dp/B004E0H7FI. It does not remind me of a nice, mature piece of a English cheddar, such as that you can often buy from Stockmann for an eye watering price. Stockman once had some cheese looking like a hockey puck and about the same width that came from a England with strange additive flavours like onion and garlic. I never saw that again. Lidl had some 'not bad' cheese on an English week in the past. I should see if they have more sometime. We have not seen the Russian cheese with a higher fat content when shopping which is a shame as it might have more taste than that "cheese" we can normally get.

I don't know what it is with some cheeses. My girl likes the baby cheese she calls these red balls in a wax jacket (Baby Bell) which come in a little sack. Similarly tasteless rubber things. Expensive too.

I should not think of food at a time when it is time to sleep. To take a snack is dangerous!

My last trip was in Tampere, and it was very windy most of the time... Too cold for just jeans. When we were inside places I got too hot (Thick wool coat), so this time I'm bringing something that can be folded and stuffed in a backpack when needed, and it's a 3in1.

I'd love some zip up wind proof/water proof pants just for outside, but my budget is being stretched already. (http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/mens-torrentshell-stretch-pants?p=84820-1)

I bought some waterproof-insulated boots, and I'll probably pick up some of these over-the-shoe ice grips (http://www.amazon.com/Stabilicers-Lite-Serious-Traction-Medium/dp/B005T9UXZO/), so it better snow a lot, at the least.

I like 72°F. ;]

Search Amazon. I even found the ones you are looking for. I just typed in Salmiakki. You can also find Marianne and Kismet by searching for Finnish Candy.

Also amazon sells a book made by Beatrice Ojakangas that has traditional Finnish recipes from American ingredients.

The book is originally from -64 so recipes are definetly old if not traditional and some labels may not be even sold anymore.
