This is my full list of reading for the Flash. This is every solid Flash run available.

The Flash by Mark Waid
The Flash by Morrison/Millar (This takes place in the middle of Waid's run)
The Flash by Geoff Johns

These books do not have Barry as the Flash, they feature Wally West as the Flash. Barry was dead at this time due to the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Wally West was the Flash at this time. The Flash by Mark Waid and the Flash by Morrison and Millar all feature the introduction of the Speed Force and use evil speedsters the most. Geoff Johns uses the Rogues more than evil speedsters but the stories are still great. Mark Waid's run has 2 books out (With a third coming out later this year) and will be around 7 or 8 books long, Morrison's run is 1 book long and Johns has 3 books out but it will be about 5 or 6 books. Reading in the right order is not essential. I read Johns run before Morrison/Millar and Waid and understood everything. These books are the biggest influence for the CW show.

New 52 Flash volumes 1-4 by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccelato

The rest of the New 52 is really bad, do not get it. Flash Rebirth (2016) has been pretty fun, but a bit disappointing at the start, but it's gotten a lot better. But still, I heavily recommend getting the Wally West volumes above.

Bart Allen

Impulse by various authors is a great series from what I hear. Personally I haven’t read it but various well informed Flash redditors have said it’s great. Just don’t read Flash Fastest Man Alive. It’s not good.

A few miscellaneous stories include

The Brave and The Bold by Mark Waid a story about Barry Allen and Hal Jordan for 6 issues at different points in their life. I haven’t been able to find a physical copy.

This whole series is a team book that features Wally as the Flash

The current Titans by Dan Abnett heavily features Wally. Especially this first trade.

Green Lantern v3 issues 66-67 a short arc between Kyle Rayner Green Lantern and Wally West. It’s their first one on one team up and it’s a cool story that ignites their rivalry.

All-Flash #1 sets up Wally as the Flash after Bart’s tenure as the Flash (Do not read it) and is a cool, cool story that shows Wally at one of his lowest points.

The Wild Wests by Mark Waid (Flash vol 2 #231-237) is a story that isn’t close to as good as Waid’s initial run but it’s still good in my opinion. First story with Wally as a dad and it tries to establish a new status quo for the Flash. Then Waid leaves DC. Also, it has cool art.

Both Young Justice by Peter David and Teen Titans by Geoff Johns feature Bart in a main role

It is an awesome pop, but $19!?!? HOT Damn. Save your money.

And this goes the same for all of CW The Flash pops that's not the SDCC Unmasked Flash Pop (that unfortunately, you will have to pay an arm and a leg for - well over $60 - goes with the territory as it's a con exclusive), Unmasked Captain Cold, Jay Garrick, and Gorilla Grodd. These 4 are the only other pops from The Flash line that are over $10. Captain Cold Unmasked is an Entertainment Earth exclusive, so you can get it through there or off ebay. Gorilla Grodd was a 2016 SDCC exclusive as well, but if you get it now-ish, it should range from $20-40 off ebay. Jay Garrick is a Legion of Collector (Funko's DC subscription box) exclusive.

For those of you interested, Manapul and Buccaletto (the creative team behind this page) did an excellent arc for The Flash from New 52 #1 through #29. These are collected in Vol. 1, Vol. 2, Vol 3, Vol 4, and Vol 5. I highly recommend reading them if you're interested in the comics, as they are a great introduction to the character of Barry Allen.

Personally for newcomers to the comics I recommend the Flash New 52 it's a fresh start to the Flash mitology and you get to know almost all the cast of the show (keep in mind that certain characters from the show don't exist in the comics I.E: Harrison Wells and some characters are completly different like Joe West), the art is magnificent just as the writing. I would recommend starting with Mark Waid's Flash series which has Wally West as The Flash. Mark Waid has done some of the best Flash stories there are and it's quite easy to start because they are all collected in trade paperbacks.

The order would just be:

The Flash by Mark Waid Book One. Flash #62-68, Annual #4-5, Special #1.

The Flash by Mark Waid Book Two. Flash #69-79, Annual #6, Green Lantern #30-31 and #40.

The Flash by Mark Waid Book Three. Flash #80-94 will be released on October 11 this year. Just a day after Flash Season 4 begins.

If you want to start at the beginning you could buy the new Flash Omnibus that begins at the start of Barry's original run. With all respect to Jay Garrick, the modern idea of Flash begins with Barry. I believe it's on sale on Amazon.

My question was more, if I bought this one, would it look good on a bookshelf? Does it have a spine? I have tons of manga on shelves, and I don't want to get these if they're more like magazines.

New 52 Flash is a pretty good jumping on point for those new to the character, starting with Vol 1: Move Forward.

  By the way, these are just starting points. I'll help you with an actual reading order if you need.

They're usually paperbacks. However, those "volumes" are actually collected story arcs (like six, seven issues). And even the volume 1 of the omnibus won't contain every issue from the Barry Allen years (which is Vol. 1, issues 105-350).

Important to know: there are two meanings to the word "volume": there is publication volume (The Flash Volume 1, in this case, is every issue from 1940 to 1985, even though it was called Flash Comics until issue 104, and The Flash from 105 onwards), and the "volumes" they actually sell, which are collected issues from a specific story arc.

Basically, this as well as the money it would cost are the reasons I "acquired" the Flash comics by other means.

Basically if he doesn't run the speedforce becomes unstable and does strange thinks like sucking up people.
