I know people who have used this in their home with great success (sticking it to a window), but it really depends how far you are from the TV towers. They don't work very well for me because I'm in the middle of nowhere. You can definitely get a TV antenna made for a vehicle (think limos), but it would be a lot more expensive than the $15 home solution from Amazon. I personally wouldn't mess with the FM/Sirius antenna; especially on a nice new car. A short, monopole antenna like that probably isn't going to pick up TV very well and you also run the risk of messing up a perfectly good antenna. I would probably look into antennas specifically made for vehicles.

>I want to buy new ones but the 2 I found on amazon (both are for around $80 for both) either have a problem with the wire harness connection on one of the assemblies or have issues with the beam aim.

Aftermarket headlamps, even ones made by major aftermarket companies, are doo-doo as you have discovered.

[Consider Depo, a major aftermarket supplier of headlamps. It sold replacement headlamps for the Ford Taurus that didn't fit the Ford Taurus.] (https://www.capacertified.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/CAPALighting3.pdf)

>Was wondering if anyone knows of a good source for the headlights that would be good.

eBay, look for OEM headlamps.

Left, used

Right, brand new

And while you're at it, the best, brightest bulbs for your Focus are these.

FORscan is a program that allows you to make changes to the software on Ford and Mazda vehicles.

You must use an ELM327 OBDII adapter with MS/HS-CAN toggle switch. I recommend this OHP unit for $30. It's USB instead of Bluetooth, but unless you want to spend $70 on a quality BT unit, something like the OHP is your best bet. Furthermore, the Windows build of FORscan is the most stable, so you're probably going to use a laptop, anyway.

You will need the free Extended license of FORscan to enable Sport mode.

Kenu Airframe

It rotates 360 degress at 45 degree increments, nice soft rubber that has great grip, has a nice little squeeze/tension to hold the phone.

Slides right onto the AC vents, I decided to go for the middle left vent but the far left vent would be a nice location as well.

I like this as it stays out of the way of my field of view and looks clean, no suction cup non-sense unless you like those types.

So this may not be the perfect solution, but this worked-

  • disconnect the horn's fuse in the fuse panel
  • scrub over and over using blue shop towels using Car Guys Premium Super Cleaner*
  • *I had tried that before as it's now my go to cleaner instead of Armor All - but prior attempt, I was using a chamois but it just flaked some of the chamois (again, this wheel was super sticky! Like fly trap sticky!)
  • I used about 7 shop towels total
  • Covered the towels in the cleaner, and just scrubbed until there was no more black residue coming off- I imagine that's years of Armor All that came off
  • Because the horn wasn't working, didn't worry about being delicate

Results- not perfect, but much much much better

    End result- PHOTO

Parts you will need are your current key with a transponder in it, old keyfob and this. This is only a shell and in it will go the insidey parts of your old keyfob and battery and the transponder from the key. You need to have a few tools, a small Phillips screwdriver and a small flathead.

  1. After getting your keyfob shell, unscrew the three or 4 screws in the back and open it carefully, you dont wanna lose the spring that flips the key, not the spring orientation to make life easier when putting it back together.

  2. After removing the blank key from the new shell, go have your current key copied on to that. I got it done for free since i had my own blank(wouldn't be more than $4 if you pay. this would be a nice point to get a new battery for your keyfob.

  3. Get your old key, and at the top, you'll find a small door. Pry it open with your flat head.(it a little bit of a pain), pull out your transponder, mine was covered in a white plastic casing. Pry open the key fob, that opens up easy.

  4. Put all the pieces together in the new flip key fob. It comes with a nice grove where your transponder will go. before you screw it together, make sure your key actually flips, and if it does, go start your car with your new key!

It's really, really easy to add your own ambient lighting to the Focus (or any car really). Most LED strips are already 12v. They'd need an adapter from house wall power but in a car (the vast majority of them anyway) the 12V circuits are already there! If you're concerned about your own electrical knowledge they make kits too; they're pretty inexpensive and you could splice open that cigarette adapter line to wire it in directly or get something like this. Personally I'd buy my own strips, controllers, and hard wire it though (make sure you confirm controller works with your strip). Since you're in the footwell I'd also recommend weatherproof but it's not super necessary since it won't be directly exposed.

You could tap in to an accessory line/fuse to have them always on or get fancy and wire them in to the dash lighting for when the headlights are on so that they only come on at night. I just used these fuse taps the other day for a dash cam and radar detector install; make sure you have the right fuses for your install though. I had to pickup some lower amperage ones to properly protect my lower amperage gear.

Some LED strip lighting is easy to adhere or screw down depending on your preference and you can even get RGB and an IR/RF/bluetooth controller to customize.

Anyway, the whole thing should take nothing more than an hour or two and less than $100 in parts.

This iottie is pretty popular for a reason, the design is pretty fantastic.

u/DrizzyRizzle · 1 pointr/FordFocus

thanks man! here's the link its only like 20 bucks with amazon prime. fitting it wasnt bad, clean the underside of the car reeeeeeaaaaaalllyyyyy well and if its not an ambient temp of like 70 degrees Fahrenheit use a heat gun to warm up the bumper and the 3m glue. other than that it holds well while you form it. (i had to cut two small pieces out to form it around the curves in the front there. no biggie though. i would also recommend using the screws it comes with to help in the areas of the greatest stress. it may sound like a lot but i didn't want to leave anything out lol

Here's a video guide as part of an oil change tutorial.

https://youtu.be/40uXBi5Rvzk?t=1m13s

I would recommend finding a replacement for it soon though, it helps prevent crap from getting on / hitting your engine and surrounding parts.

Also, it significantly helps with aerodynamics at higher speeds, which improves gas mileage and road noise.

Here's the cheapest replacement I can find with decent ratings on Amazon with free shipping https://www.amazon.com/Evan-Fischer-EVA201091914412-Engine-2012-2016-2013-2016/dp/B01HNI46NS

u/Paradox1989 · 3 pointsr/FordFocus

From my other post when i got mine.

Got this hitch and this rack.

Hitch went on pretty easy you just have to keep in mind that the 3rd frame bolt on both side either need a flat ground on each side of the bolt head in order to fit through the frame hole or the access hole in the frame needs widened out a little. I ground the bolt heads a little since i didn't want to damage the paint by grinding on the frame.

You can search this site, or LKQ's online website to find a Sync 3 Screen and APIM. Junkyards sell them as separate units and for a lot more, so I recommend LKQ's site first; they usually sell them together for one low price. Make sure it is Sync 3 (2016+ Focus) and not Sync 2.

Next, you'll need a new media hub (Part # HU5Z-19A387-A) for Android Auto and Apply CarPlay to work, as well as an adapter plate and wiring harness from 4Dtech. When you have all of these, you can plug the Sync 3 system in and it will work on its own.

You can choose to leave it as such and deal with some of the small bugs it may have, or you can reprogram it to work with your vehicle options. 2012 is the only year where you need to program the APIM for it to recognize the steering wheel controls. To program, you will need this OBDII reader and the FORscan program with a free extended license. With FORscan, you can flash the APIM to enable or disable settings such as the back-up camera--if you do not have one, climate control repeater (where the temperature displays on the sceen), colors and themes, steering wheel controls, etc. Do NOT play around with the hex codes too much or you may brick your APIM. I have a hex code master list I can forward to you via email if you decide to undergo the project. It sounds harder than it actually is. I was able to have it installed and programmed in about an hour.

This was the cold air <--The page says for the ST, would this even be compatible with my SE(update: K&n website says it is)

And this is the performance

In theory i'd like whatever makes it louder, but if one is better vs another, i'd want to hear the options

u/coozyorcosie · 1 pointr/FordFocus

I'd recommend the AEM dry filter for its easy cleaning, unlike the Green and K&N that require oiling.

u/Mooolelo · 1 pointr/FordFocus

is there a significant difference between a drop in and a CAI? i know my car (2012 SEL, 2 liter) wants to breath move. 30$ for a drop in K&N filter is a lot different than a 300$ CAI. https://www.amazon.com/Performance-Intake-69-3517TS-Lifetime-Non-Turbo/dp/B00861C6LQ 10 hp seems like a big gain for just a new intake. realistic, or marketing?
