For the time being, I would recommend getting bra extenders. They sell them at most maternity shops, but also at joanne fabrics or similar. They look like little extensions.

She can also buy a few nursing bras, but I would caution against this. She's got bigger boobs now - they are going to get a lot bigger still when she's nursing. (I went from a B before, to a C during pregnancy, to a DD when nursing, and settled on a C after both of my kids).

I would highly highly recommend a few sleeping bras (I had some similar to this - they give enough support for her boobs not to hurt while sleeping, and are great for sleep-nursing after the kid is born.

Her best bet is going to be bras without an underwire, and with a certain amount of stretch to them. (Edit: Stretch is important - her boobs are going to continue to change and towards the end she may want to fit absorbent pads in there in case she leaks as well.) She may want some with light padding for cover, but not too much, because they are going to be bigger than she's used to already, and she probably wont want to accentuate that.

Also, I would recommend easily washed bras - ones that you don't need to worry about drip drying, etc. (this goes back to simple cotton, no underwire) because if she's anything like me she will sweat a lot. Its just part of pregnancy.

As for other things that help - 100% get a belly band! Worth every penny.

Its just a stretchy piece of fabric, but you can wear it doubled over unbuttoned pants (helpful again in the weeks after pregnancy). And then towards the end of pregnancy, i would wear it all the way up to help support my stomach. I recommend getting one in black, white, and maybe another color. The white was great to wear over my belly when i was 8-9 months, because it covered what i called "belly cleavage" - where the shirt hangs down from your belly button, and your pants are under your belly, so you have bare skin exposed to air.

Target has a belly band that they sell - its a little bit thinner material than the bellaband one though. Also, if she doesn't mind a seam, lots of people make them and sell them on ebay / etsy, etc. - they aren't quite as stretchy and supportive, but they cover up which is really the main function of them.

Edit 2: I can't stress enough not to spend a lot of money on bras now. A few temporary ones to get you till the baby is here, and wait until the baby is here to buy nursing bras. I spent a lot of money on bras I was never able to wear because they were too small for me when i was nursing. There just isn't a good way to gauge it. Also what she finds comfortable now - before she had kids - will be completely different from after, because the actual structure of her boobs is going to change. I wouldn't dream of wearing a bra that wasn't underwire with light padding now, but I used too all the time. What used to be flattering for me isn't anymore.

Fleece lined tights would be a great smaller gift to give your friend. They are black and opaque, which I think would be quite suitable for professional attire aaannndd they have the warm fuzzies of a sweatshirt hugging your legs. Be sure to check the size charts of any of these products so you get her the right size.

I feel like clothes wise, she should be fine with anything she brought from California. Skirt and a suit jacket? Well, put on those fleece tights. Thermal underwear under clothes can also keep you very warm. Scarves can help with drafty environments both indoors and outdoors. A long pashmina can pretty much be used as a blanket without looking crazy.

Once it starts snowing she may want to get snow boots, so she can switch up what she's wearing on the streets vs. indoors. I love anything by Sorel, these boots are warm, waterproof, and cute!

Accessorizing and layering is the biggest part of staying warm in the winter. You could also go the mom route and get her a nice hat and gloves set so you know she's not freezing her fingers off! Hopefully I provided you with some helpful options. You're a very kind friend to do this for your friend's birthday!

Where in New England? There could be a huge difference in amounts of snow you will experience. I grew up in Central New York where the average yearly snowfall is easily over 100 inches.

Coats: I would highly recommend two coats, one long for those terrible blizzard like days so that the majority of your legs are covered, something like this. Then a second nicer coat for typical days or events, something like this.

Hats: If your coat has a hood, you can get by without a hat. If you do wish for a hat, get some like this that you can pull down on your head. Alternatively, if you wear your hair up a lot get this.

Scarves: Scarves are great, get several in various colors and thickness. Make sure they are wide as well as long so you can pull them up over your chin on those windier days. Otherwise, they are a great way to dress up your coat while keeping you warm.

Gloves: If you drive you want a pair of gloves in the car just to use to pump gas so you don't have to touch the cold pump while keeping gas from getting on your nice gloves.

Boots: This really varies with area, some people are content in their Uggs. However, places with more snow that you may have to walk through several inches daily I would recommend something with a rubber bottom and sturdier body than Uggs such as these.

Clothes: Don't focus on just long sleeve shirts, these can sometimes be too thin for a winter day. Consider some stand alone sweaters or a few cardigans to wear over short sleeves or those thinner long sleeve shirts. Plus, cardigans are great for layering as some buildings really crank up the heat and others do not (and I just love cardigans obviously).

Sorry this is super long. Hope it helps! I was not very selective in my examples, there are definitely better looking/more fashionable options out there for each item.

I have so many! Especially if you're a retro loving gal like myself:

-For good A-line knee-length skirts, Grace Karin is the BEST. I have this one in multiple colors. Search Grace Karin for a bunch of cute stuff.

-I always get compliments on this dress. Runs large in my experience and super stretchy too.

-This straw bag is my most used purse currently

-Cropped MAK Sweaters cardigans for a great vintage inspired look

-Got some cute swimsuit tops with support from ASOS and then paired them with some cheap high waisted bottoms from Amazon

-I've gotten these low heeled sandals in two different colors for weddings I was a bridesmaid in

-Just another cute vintage-y dress

I just saw this thread and had to comment- I’m from Minnesota too, and I got a pair of merrell leather waterproof boots two years ago and they have been stellar in the winter! I wouldn’t go for a hike in deep snow with them but they do really well in slush and snow! I have the merrell captiva tall boot but [this one](Merrell Women's Emma Tall LTR Snow Boot, Brunette, 5 M US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRY4OYU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3UyTBb9QTS4BX ) looks pretty similar to what I have and I can’t recommend them enough!

I ordered this from cupshe on Amazon. Read the sizing because you do need to size up. But the quality is decent and it's super cute. I ordered 3 different styles total.

The dress pictured is the Hutch Dahlia dress: https://www.hutch-design.com/shop/dahlia-dress

The floral lace one next to it is also by Hutch.

You could keep an eye out on ebay or Poshmark for someone selling it.

If it's the rainbow tiers that you are after, I found two alternatives that aren't the same, so it's a different dress and look but has something subtly rainbow-y:

This Alice + Olivia dress is currently on pre-order at Saks Off 5th and $350, which means it could go on sale later on in the season if you keep watching it. I've seen things get marked down 70% at Saks Off 5th sometimes, so a sale like that would bring that dress down to ~$100. https://www.saksfifthavenue.com/alice-olivia/product/0400010547017

This Amazon dress has rainbow pleats in a sort of short-sleeve sheath dress style. I think it has more of a work-appropriate vibe than the casual and flowy vibe of the original dress, but it does have that rainbow effect: https://www.amazon.com/Ashir-Aley-Rainbow-Colorful-Pleated/dp/B01KMKWA78/

Grace Karin on Amazon! I have a few dresses from this brand and they are wonderful

u/bgc24 · 4 pointsr/FrugalFemaleFashion

These from Amazon are incredible. They are soft and stretchy, much better than the bins of 5 for 25 at Target that I used to get. They aren't lacy and colorful, but do the job well. https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Essentials-Womens-Cotton-Stretch/dp/B01N3NOZMT

Wide foot/wide calves.

I had a pair of navy blue Hunter boots that looked nice, fit my calves well, and worked for run of the mill rainy weather -- but after BOTH boots sprung leaks during Hurricane Harvey and I ended up bailing water out of my yard with sopping wet feet, I threw them out and I ordered these as an upgrade: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XTX7737/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like Cupshe -- I ordered this suit.

If you're busty though -- Cupshe will do you no favours.

Try Zeraca if you're busty or want more options.
