I purchased the El Gato Game Capture HD for XBOX 360.
I love it. The only drawback -- and not sure if this is or isn't true for other game capture cards -- is that it has to be connected through a powered-up computer that is turned on for you to play at all.
Since the card is between your TV's HDMI and the XBOX's HDMI connection, for you to play at all, the computer the card is connected to must be turned on. At least that was my experience. You didn't have to have the software up and running nor capturing video the whole time, unless I'm not doing it right.
If you are capturing video the entire time while you are playing, your computer will be basically useless until it is done exporting the video, which could take a while dependent upon how much video you recorded and at what quality. (I stick with 720p since there's no point in making it bigger than the actual game's rate.)
It is how I captured this bit of gameplay and then reduced the quality in Photoshop for GIF purposes.
