Thank you for taking the time to respond, that sounds like a great idea, especially because I don't want any hassle when placing the heavy weight on the pegs, have found some for quite cheap as well, a very good suggestion, thank you.

This'll probably depend on how much you want to spend. A decent set of weights and rack, brand new, could run around $1500-$2000. But if he's a huge gym rat, he'll probably want OLYMPIC weights (as opposed to standard). He'll probably want a RACK so he can do bench press and squats safely. I personally bought this one and love it. A couple ways to reduce the price is look on Craigslist and any used sporting goods stores in your area. Hope that helps

Spotify is great. It has a massive library to choose from, and also allowed offline playback of whatever you want.

I'd then pick up some headphones. Nothing crazy, Amazon basic over ear headphones are great to start out with.

AmazonBasics Lightweight On-Ear Headphones - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NBEWB4U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EdEczbVV3KK7X

If you are more on the wireless earbuds side of the game, then give these a shot: Bluetooth Headphones, Hussar Magicbuds Best Wireless Sports Earphones with Mic, IPX7 Waterproof, HD Sound with Bass, Noise Cancelling, Secure Fit, Up to 9 Hours of Play for iPhone Android (Upgraded) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018XI3ASO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_PeEczb4N4PKQ0

Neither of these break the bank and offer a good quality product. I personally keep my phone in my pocket, but you could check out arm bands as well.

I don’t think it’s worth it.

This was worth it though.

That pull up bar will work muscles better than that device (more muscles used = more caloric burn).

Chin ups work biceps & your back muscles.

Push ups with the bar works your chest/triceps.

You can also use it for tricep dips.

This was one of the best fitness buys I made.

Anyway, my 2¢.

You're partly correct: I'm a prior Marine, so I've been doing bodyweight exercises almost exclusively for the past 8 years or so, and I have a nice dumbell and bench set (like this one https://www.amazon.com/Yes4All-Adjustable-Dumbbells-50-00-Pounds/dp/B005MHDPBW, up to 105) that I hardly use, so I wanted to get started on it.
Looking at that chart, it seems like my idea has some merit, at least. I'm mainly looking for strength and endurance, so I'm guessing the 75-85 range might be what I need.

I was thinking about using this instead of the powder... seems better to build muscle better than the powder. What do you think?

I started with Starting Strength. It’s a book that explains the basic lifts and outlines a basic barbell program. Do that for awhile then move on to a more advanced program.

Proteins, and maybe some with amino acids added in.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GP5HJI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is what I am currently taking. I switch it up tho. If you are super skinny then any kind of mass gainer.

I have these and they sound great.

I use wipes after the gym. The main thing is to strip down completely so you don't miss any spots. It also helps you cool down and stop sweating. Use Stridex pads on your armpits before applying deodorant. And make sure your clothes are clean. If you rewear shirts they will smell bad.

TaoTronics at Amazon are what I use, they've lasted me two years, great quality and the battery is still trucking, and cheap enough that it's no big deal to get another pair.

u/nnea-shark · 1 pointr/GYM

I use these ones:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06XPK9N8L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Zq6VCb246WETQ

I like them cause I can run a marathon without them falling out once. And the battery lasts long enough to cover the race and the few hours of travel/outings before and after it

In a word? No.

I've had multiple knee injuries over the years, you make adjustments to what you can or can't do comfortably. I did some damage to my patella years and years ago and squats really helped me build the stabilizing muscles in my legs and took a lot of the pressure off of the joint. A friend of mine who is a pro-wrestler suggested drinking a packet of geletin 3 days a week - the individually packaged Knox brand you can get at Walmart are perfect - and that also helped.

When my knees feel less than 100% I use a Mueller knee brace (

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001V9T4QU/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_rFd3CbV8X1ZF0 ) they have two stabilizing strips down each side of the knee and a patella hole to keep the knee cap in a stable place.

These days I can do a full on ATG traditional squat and deadlifts are back up to proper form. Just takes time, patience and some geletin black magic.
