I'm using the Hyperion extended battery (4200 mAh) that comes with a new back cover. The color of the new back isn't an exact match, but you won't notice the difference once you put the Hyperion cover on it (sold separately). I actually like the phone being thicker now too. It feels more comfortable in my hand and it no longer feels like it will snap in half when it's in my pocket.

I really love this battery. It charges quickly and seems to last forever. It will easily last a full day with fairly heavy usage. It will last 2 full days with light to moderate usage.

I have a pebble blue S3, so I chose the black cover. It completely covers the phone except for the cutouts for camera, speaker, jack, etc. It makes it look like you have a black phone (which I prefer over the pebble blue).

The case has a honeycomb texture that gives it a little "grip", but it's still slick enough to easily slide in & out of your pocket.

CAUTION: The new battery and cover will make your phone exactly 5/8" thick, which I like, but you'll have a hard time finding a car mount that will hold a phone this thick (most accept up to 1/2" only).

I see the other guy recommends you install Cyanogen, and I can speak from experience as I currently have Cyanogen 13 (Marshmallow) installed.

First off, do install Cyanogen, I love it so far!!

But it doesn't really fix the battery issues, in fact I think I might actually go through battery a little faster on this ROM.

The S3 was not really future-proofed, in that the battery life has pretty much always sucked. To combat this I bought two Anker 2200mAh Batteries and two Wall Battery Chargers from Amazon. Its great! I love going from 0% straight to 100% in just a minute or two.

I personally go though about 80-160% of battery a day with about 2-5 hours of demanding screen on time, so I do really recommend keeping an extra battery with you. Here is today's minimal (2 hours 50 minutes screen on time) battery usage for reference.

Hope this helps! If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

P.S. Here is the download link for CyanogenMod for your phone.

So, uh.. lets get this straight OP.

You want to currently watch -or- play DirectTV's NFL Sunday Ticket on your S3.

You'd like to use an MHL Adapter and HDMI cable connected to your TV to watch this programming on your TV.

>>Is this possible? DirectTV doesn't seem interested in answering me. They replied twice with a stock answer of which phones support the app. I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but you guys have been helpful in the past and I need to make a relatively quick decision based on this answer. Thank you.

A quick search for Amazon Product Reviews for the HDMI / MHL Adapter for Samsung Galaxy S3 reports that it is quite possible:

Works very well with everything. It played YouTube videos, FPS games, Netflix, PLEX streams, email, browsing...

For $15 dollars its definitely worth a shot!

The wood case looks nice, but could add a bit of weight. The other looks like it's more durable but adds some more bulk.

I've been exceptionally pleased with this case, which features a flip-stand in the back, great for watching videos, etc.

The otterbox defender is good too it just makes the phone a little more bulky and the built in screen protector works alright i wasnt really that big of a fan of it. The outside of the defender is rubber so it has a much better grip than the commuter. Another plus of the defender is that the power button and volume buttons are way easier to use. I have the commuter and my girlfriend has the defender on her s3. The defender is going for around 30 on amazon right now. Link

I actually got one of these Roadster dash pad things.

http://www.amazon.com/Roadster-Smartphone-Sticky-Dash-Mount/dp/B004I6F3E0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1346621956&sr=8-3&keywords=cell+phone+roadster

I know some people love solid mounts and all, but I find that the slots that keep it vertical fit very well and keep it snug. Then again not everyone's car has a nice flat area, so it may not be for everyone.

I am also looking for a generic desk dock, and I have been eyeing these cheap ones on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sync-Cradle-Micro-USB-Dock-Charger-For-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-SIII-i9300-white-/261091688539?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3cca47005b

They seem sufficient for desk/nightstand use.

u/piratekingdan · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS3

Honestly, for that price, just get a Moto G. You won't get the 4G service, but you'll get official updates from Google and it'll run like a dream.

Edit: Helpful Amazon link. http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Moto-Global-Unlocked-Black/dp/B00GWR373M

u/desull · 6 pointsr/GalaxyS3

I got this and absolutely love it. Adds almost no bulk, buttons are easier to find, all ports are easily accessible, easy to slip on/off.

u/abqnm666 · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS3

It switches to MTP mode because it is connected to a USB data connection. The USB 2.0 standard defines the current of a USB 2.0 port as 500mA, which is half of what the wall charger is for this phone. Because the standard is defined as 500mA, the phone's charging firmware is designed to charge at a max of 500mA when connected to a USB data device.

To get around this, you can use a "USB condom" as they are often called. Basically it is a small USB adapter you plug between the cable and the USB port and it will tell the phone that it is connected to an AC charger, allowing it to charge at more than 500mA, if the port supports it. This will most certainly improve charging speeds with a PC as most every PC has included high power USB ports for the better part of the last decade. As for your car stereo, that port may not be capable of providing more than 500mA, so you may want to use a 1A (or higher--the phone will only use as much as it needs) car charger.

Here is one of those USB condoms. I keep a few of these around for fast charging or charging on foreign computers that you don't want to have a data connection with.

Are you talking about something like this or this? It's for 'ipod/iphone', but I use some headphones that are labeled as iphone remote headphones (these) and the button/mic work fine with the S3. They're pretty cheap so it might be worth a shot

That's the band I use. Very soft, long velcro strap, great at keeping the phone secure. Pretty much everything you look for.

u/Tunnelmath · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

Heh, that is pretty purple. Get this case and replace the glass. The case is AMAZING! Super low profile and predicted mine from many drops.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008CZNAMK?cache=9224ffa1f3f9f898998faa437491572b&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1412383196&sr=8-2#ref=mp_s_a_1_2

Be warned, I've replaced my wife's glass twice and replacement glass does not seem as durable as stock. However the second replacement is really easy to do. The first is more difficult due to glue over the entire screen.

u/washboard · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS3

Sure thing. This is the stuff I used. You can probably pick up something similar at Radio Shack, Best Buy or better yet a local electronics store.

u/scrazza · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS3

Hey just in case any one else has the same problem and finds this post, I fixed it :) All you have to do is buy this part and replace the part in the phone like in this video.
Thanks to /u/derpsafe for the help!

u/unkindman · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS3

This is good advice. I'm chiming in to also recommend getting a ZeroLemon battery. I've noticed with my S3 that the stock battery tends to crap out after a year's use and needs a total replacement. Luckily, Samsung builds phones with removable batteries, making this an easy fix.

ZeroLemon makes a better performing replacement battery which is the same size as the Samsung OEM battery and can be found here.

Or, if you don't mind having a bulkier and heavier phone, you can get the large battery pack which holds a charge 3x larger than the slim version. I use this battery and can typically last 3 days without a charge. That can be found here.

u/MrSeanB · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

I'm charging through a Samsung charger plugged into the wall, the charger isn't the one that came with the phone though because it wasn't long enough so I swapped it with a family members one but they only have a really basic Samsung phone, not even a smart phone maybe this could be why? It used to work well for about 6 months but now as I say it only charges when the phone is switched off and plugged in.

It took about an hour and a half to get from 5 percent to 95 percent if that's any help full information I don't have a clue about all the output levels.

The charger I bought is this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007YZ3CFO/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?ref_=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item

Is that any good?

u/KennyWoo77 · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS3

I bought this one when I got my S3. (The link is to amazon.com, so if you think I am trying to get a commission or something along those lines feel free to look up Aduro Holster GS3 on amazon)

I really like the case and the holster holds the phone well, while still allowing you to remove it easily. It definitely does not do a whole lot to protect the phone from falls or anything but if you are trying to find a holster, that is not huge, there is a bit of a trade off. The stand really isn't great but it is a $13 case, so if the stand is not a deal breaker than I would recommend it.

u/bbb4246 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

The chances that you could successfully use an HTC connector in a S3 seem slim.

The safest bet would probably be to get an external battery charger and spare battery, such as: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B0IS6MU

u/promidgetmafia · 5 pointsr/GalaxyS3

I'm a fan of the Skinomi screen protectors here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0084F4HY8/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Never had any problems and looks great! When I received the package from amazon, there was also a note that if I left a review about their product, they would send me a second screen protector at no charge.

u/TrustMeImALawStudent · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

I like the Seidio Surface because it is clean, simple, and non-silicone. I've dropped my phone a few times without any problems.

u/Bebop351 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

2300 mAh isn't that big of an improvement over the stock battery (2,100) so I would say you probably shouldn't expect a huge increase in battery life. They do sell them in packs of 2 with an external charger for a good price though. You can keep the extra battery with you if you want to keep it slim. http://www.amazon.com/warranty-ZeroLemon-Extended-Protection-Compatible/dp/B00A533DWO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1396635130&sr=8-3&keywords=zerolemon+galaxy+s3

u/DeathJunt · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

There's also this. Works incredibly well, and made by the sane company. Well worth the money.

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00B0IS6MU/ref=pd_aw_sims_6?pi=SS115

u/genxer · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

This one is made by Anker. They're arent Samsung batteries -- but they are very good batteries...
amazon

u/notaneggspert · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

I grabbed this one a while ago after my OEM battery started ballooning, same size, effectively the same capacity, and retains NFC.

It can be hard to find legitimate samsung oem batterys, they're easy to fake so by going 3rd party you know what they're getting. Anker is an awesome company.

Also if you're rooted resetting the battery stats file through an app.

u/shawn_g · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS3

Don't bother trying to buff out the scratch. You'll end up removing the oleophobic coating in that one spot, which will be more annoying than a scratch. Without the coating, it will feel less smooth in that area and it will leave finger prints MUCH easier.

Any of the wet application screen protectors will help to hide scratches. I recently installed this one and really like it:

Skinomi Screen Protector

Plus, it's only $9.

u/Gandalv · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

They are as cheap as the one that comes with the phone is that's what you're asking. I got a case which fits the extended battery and gives it better tactical feel than the smooth plastic from the factory or the ones that come with the extended batteries.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

Well i would think its more like 330 cycles. I never did more than one cycle a day and there was quite often where i went one cycle for two days because i was too lazy to charge and because i thought it wasnt worth charging from 50% to 100% instead of waiting to go from 0%-100%.

But i see your point. Should i just look into getting this??

u/NotTheKJB · 1 pointr/GalaxyS3

Honestly, that's roughly normal use tbh. I bought the ZeroLemon extended battery and haven't looked back: http://imgur.com/a/UNSE2

I used to faff about with an additional battery and charger plugged into my car all the time so I could swap out the batteries when it gets later in the day, as heading out at about 8-9 meant that if I hadn't charged my phone fully during the day then I was screwed. This extended battery in conjunction with JellyBam (custom ROM) and Greenify has completely changed the way I use my phone now, it feels as though it's had a huge burden taken off it; as a result I go through quite a bit more data, though it's well worth ~£25 delivered.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/warranty-ZeroLemon-Extended-Protection-Compatible/dp/B00A533DWO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372165577&sr=8-1&keywords=zerolemon

u/Calad · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS3

This zerolemon battery is only 11 bucks. I bought the $25 2pack with a wall charger and my phone lasts almost 3x as long and all the issues associated with the battery have completely disappeared. I wouldn't skimp here, it was well worth the money for me.

u/btron92 · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS3

Yeap from Amazon. Here's the link to it:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B0IS6MU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1395039994&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40

And it generally lasts me the whole day with moderate usage (excluding heavy gaming). It's noticeable compared to the stock one though.
