>Would that charge the battery? Or is there circuitry in the device that controls the charge?

The circuitry is generally needed on devices, I don't know if any battery could be charged without some sort of sensor for safety reasons. All this is beyond the scope of this subreddit.
>
>AND, if I can't plug a charger directly into a battery, can I wire it to my Nightcore charger?

Oh god what? The thing that recharges AA batteries and the like. Is it even rated for the Galaxy tab voltage and amp wise?

>And if not, are there any options to charge the battery while it's outside of the device?

Don't, just replace the circut with something like this. Games&Tech 3 x USB Charging Charger Port Data Connector + Tools for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 P3200 P3210 T210 T210R T211 T217A SM-T217S SM-T217A https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N2HR8AG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Uuj.BbGV7T8QD

All questions related to battery charging and circuits is probably way beyond the scope of this subreddit you really need to get a better answer elsewhere, or educate yourself up more on it. There is probably a solution, where you rig a circut between the charger and the batter and have a quick disconnect to make it easy. But for that effort why not watch a YouTube how to replace the port and knock it out in a few minutes.

I like the fintie, but it's super heavy. I had the same dilema, when I'm home I like to use the S4 as a tablet for writing, but the book cover, and other cases I've tried just made it too heavy to hold in one hand. I got this:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G6XKX6V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Add a screen protector, and it's plenty of protection for me for around the house use. Then, when I go somewhere I pop on the book cover.

I'm in the US, but Amazon UK has it as well. I've been using this one since I got the S6 a month ago and it's great. Instead of using an adhesive strip like the official case, it sticks to the back of the S6 using magnets. And those magnets are strong. No worries about the tablet sliding off the cover.

I've seen reviews that say the magnets from the case can interfere with the display when using the S-Pen, but I've yet to experience this myself. Even if it does, you can easily remove the case while you're using the S-Pen if it became an issue.

So here's an update.
I first want to thank you for responding and offering your input!

I also want you to know that although I had asked for model specific info I decided to go a different route.

  1. I went with this for my power supply:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SQPS7N2/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00
Got it for $15 USD with a coupon and an additional percentage off.
I figured with the same 30W PD and additional 18W QC ports it was a deal.

  2. I found this hub:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M6R3CPB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00
With another coupon it came to $30 USD, another good deal.
I knew I wasn't getting all the ports some of the other hubs offered, but hey...a good price for something labeled "2019 Update" (maybe upgraded chipsets?) and the power delivery looked good-to-go!
Found it cheaper on Ebay, but buying through them I consider a crap shoot...there are way too many con artists set up there these days, you never know WHAT you'll get.
At least I have guaranteed return options with Amazon.

  3. I just tested it with that Seagate Slim :
    https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16822178436?item=9SIA9K89UG1149
This I picked up for $20 USD (still in box with protective wrapping) at a local Goodwill store.

  4. I also years ago had purchased the USB Media Explorer:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer

to use with one of my first tablets, the old Nexus 10...which still works albeit only with external power (the battery is shot)!

    Everything works...it just works.

I can now pack the Seagate and run it as long as I want without draining the internal battery and by doing so I hope prolong the life of the Tab S4.

    Again, thanks!

Here are the replacement nibs I bought.

Amazon Link - Tab S3 Nibs

They worked great. Just like the original ones.

I eventually bought the new Tab S4 Pen to use with my Tab S3. It's a fantastic upgrade.

Edit: Fixed Link

Hence the USB-C hub recommendation. You can do it whichever way you'd like but I think it'd be a better setup with a hub.

This works great and also enables DeX https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWT7MEA/

I got the 549 s6 from Amazon with the 50 dollar gift card. I definitely count that 50 as a further discount to $500 as i already spent it.

So a $500 s6 128gb/6gb new or a $385 s5e 128gb/6gb ram renewed

The micro sd card barely counts as you could get a 400gb card with that gift card

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074RNRM2B/ref=twister_B07B3MFBHY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

115 dollars for new product and 3x the performance is a no brainier for me. Longevity is much much better on the s6

If you absolutely can't afford the extra cash then the s5e will do you well but the s6 is amazing for the price

This case https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PVNDTZJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I pre-ordered 10 days ago just shipped today and will arrive between May 3rd-7th. Infiland has received pretty decent reviews for their cases so I'm hoping this will last until I find another one.

I also ordered this AVIDET clear case https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NW9J4HX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , it shipped from China a few days ago and will arrive...May 10 - June 3.

If these cases fail or if it looks like 3rd party accessory support is weak in the near future then I will most definitely get an overpriced Samsung case.

Anker USB C Hub (Model AK-A83520A1)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerExpand-Delivery-Ethernet-Chromebook/dp/B07PPGWQ15/

£54 so a bit on the expensive side but I figured if it didn't work I could use it with a pc and add a second display or something. This is the model with Gigabit Ethernet first available on Amazon UK on 14 May 2019, there is a different 7-in-1 which swaps the Ethernet for another USB-C port and is £35 (AK-A83460A1) first available from 13 Nov. 2018, there are chipset differences so I have no idea if the cheaper model will work, it ought to but the sheer lack on information is a large part of the problem with finding hubs that work.

Performance is not stellar, but faster than a WiFi transfer for which I get about 10MB/s (80mbps) from both a Ubiquiti Access point using smb and a travel router with hdd attached using ftp. With the initial USB-C to A with USB-C adapter cable I achieved a stable but fluctuating slightly 12MB/s, with the Anker USB-C to USB-C cable I get a stable and consistent 17MB/s (136Mbps).

There is definitely a bottleneck in the hub, I presume this is the fault of the Tab S4 as this hub is designed for Chromebooks and Ultrabooks where a lack of performance would be noticed. When I plug in a usb flash drive directly into the S4 (Lexar P20 capable of over 100MB/s sustained read and write) it maxes out at 50MB/s reading, in the hub it only reaches the same 17MB/s. If you want 50MB/s performance then I'd consider getting a Samsung T5 portable SSD which can be powered by the Tabs S4, unlike portable hdd with spinning platters. If it wasn't for the fact I wanted support for over 1TB of portable storage, which would have doubled my costs, I would probably have gone that route.

One last piece of information which is very important. Writing drivers to transfer from external usb attached storage is apparently very difficult, the vast majority of Android Apps only manage a few MB/s when transferring. Even the increasingly popular MiXplorer v6 over at forums.xda-developers.com the developer was/has been/is struggling with achieving decent transfer speeds.

I've only found two file transfer apps which achieve decent speeds for usb transfers, the first was the infamous ES File Explorer before it was removed from the Play Store, the other is a pay app (cheap though at £3.14) called USB Media Explorer

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but this Suptek stand is great:

Also the Prop N Go Slim:

lol. it was a widely advertised feature among the tech community.

this is what I use as far as dex goes

https://smile.amazon.com/Adapter-Samsung-Station-Experience-Nintendo/dp/B078W4RXGR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536188053&sr=8-1&keywords=topoint+usb+c

works pretty well together. scaling is sorta an issue with it, but it gets the job done otherwise.

Didn't notice any lags so far. I use it mainly for viewing Photos and Videos (4k H.256 HEVC coded) which come from my drone. And those 4k videos play very smooth without any stuttering! Same for large Apps (>1GB), like Star Walk 2 or Solar Walk 2 + Games. For now, i did not notice any impact on performance. But maybe it is too soon to evaluate, because i have my S4 for almost 2 Weeks by now.

If you want to get most out from performance, i would suggest the EXTREME PRO series which is slightly faster than my regular EXTREME series: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-Micro-Memory-Adapter/dp/B07G5Q2TRL/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1549293567&sr=8-2&keywords=400gb+extreme+pro

Also i did not notice any app, that refuses to move to sd card so far. (Dont forget to enable this feature in developer options first)

EDIT: But the 400GB sd card actually are 366,76GB. Also the internal Space is 52,65 GB only, so in total i have 419,41 GB in total.

I have this and I absolutely love it. Looks very professional and has a pen holder.

Yeah, I like this one that is even smaller. I travel by bicycle so size/weight matters. Moving to a tab so I can leave my laptop behind.
