I'm going to honest with you. In my opinion, if you're spending less than $90, you're buying something that will be needing a replacement within the first couple treks. I've had my Kelty Redwing 50 for years and it has never let me down once. I have a bigger pack for longer treks, which are few and far between lately, but for the most part the Redwing is my go-to. Its a bit pricier than what you're looking to spend, but I promise you it till last you many year, and many miles. My wife uses an Osprey Stratos which she loves, but I personally find the Kelty so much more comfortable to wear for extended periods. Again, a bit pricier than you're looking to spend, but I'm a believe that when it comes to things like packs, boots, and tents, you get what you pay for, so spending the extra money once make a bit more sense to me than spending a lesser amount multiple times. Hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any other gear questions! Happy travels!

> packs small and is very heavy

Is this a typo or are you really looking for something heavy?

I have an old teton 20F bag. It's used but well cared for. It was my husband's bag for backpacking, he is 6'1" and it fit him nicely. We upgraded to quilts this winter, and we are waiting on them to ship as we speak. I may be interested in selling his if he likes the quilt. I also have an older model 30F eureka silver city bag that I used (likely not long enough or warm enough for what you specified though). Both pack down fairly small for budget bags and fit nicely in our backpacks.

Your best bet is to look at the Eagle Claw Fiberglass Rods, They are well known and well loved as cheap good rods.

https://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Claw-Featherlight-Weight-Yellow/dp/B0031HECBM/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1480429552&sr=1-2&keywords=eagle+claw+fly+rod

I also have this rod, Its a nice little cheap rod with a different feel from the fiberglass. I don't know anything about the reel they offer here. I just have the rod.

Look for an old Martin or other "blue collar" used reel on ebay. That will get you a much more solid setup than some all in one kit.

I don't think I have the original one but I used it in one of these and it worked great. I'll include it if u want. I think it's a medium size, but I know it fits great with this bag.

I just bought one of those and it's outright incredible considering the cost. By all accounts a fun DIY project is to take another 3-5 oz of down and overstuff it - consensus is that with another few ounces it'll keep you toasty down into the low 20s. I haven't tried it yet, but I might pick up a second as a project.

Best deal on poles I've seen anywhere. Very comparable to the REI Flash CF poles - there's actually few features on the Monoprice ones that I prefer. The only complaint I have is that the straps are kind of middling, but for what you're paying, they're more than great.

For a bivy under $60, I'd consider sewing my own.

I don’t have one to sell, but got a Columbia last year for every day wear and I love it. Has a hood, covers my butt, is thin enough to wear in the car comfortably, but also warm enough for a New England football game. This is exactly what you're looking for. I recommend this bag to everyone in your position--it's affordable, (relatively) lightweight, packable, and warm. I've used it down to the low 40s without much of a problem. People have thru hiked the AT with it, even. It pretty much hits the sweet spot of every variable (weight, price, warmth) that you'll find, and comes with a compression sack as a bonus.

Yeah, it seems steep but I am just going off of the receipts I have from my purchases.

EDIT:

Hammock - 135

Hammock Rainfly - 140

Snake skin - 20

2QZQ - Mod 4 - 92

Atlas straps - 30

Carabiners - 14 (you need 2)

Omega Ring - 20 (you need 4 of them)

Dry compression - 45

None of this includes shipping or taxes. That being said, it's a great setup and I am not disappointed with how it performs. If you pick up an under quilt then this setup is unstoppable.

EDIT 2: The hammock includes the price for the original rainfly, I still have that and don't want it.

I've replaced the battery twice, once before starting the JMT and another time before a motorcycle tour up to Alaska. I've never seen the battery life indicator come up and I'd always use it in 5 minute tracking. I don't actually know how long the battery last, but if I'd have to guess, about a year with heavy use. You have to use lithium AAA's though. They maintain their voltage for the life of the device.

>Though, won't help me much against the griz and lions, but maybe if I break something lol...

Ha! I hear you. I was on a bike when I encountered a grizzly and her cubs and totally felt safe. The mountain lion was on a trail and staring right at me. That was actually actually concerning. The tracking is nice just in case they needed to find the body. I typically have people look at the tracking page sporadically and they know what to do if they see I haven't moved for too long.

Just wanted to say that naturehike makes a good inflatable pillow. I own it and have used it about 15 nights in the last year and love it. cost me 13 dollars and with prime shipped free.

I got this tent as a starter tent and have been really happy. Its very light, easy to set up and packs down small. They were having some manufacturing issues, so I made sure to water proof everything first. Its enough space for 2 sleeping with your packs at your feet. It requires two trekking pads (I got mine from walmart for ~$20).

Think of it as your starter home. You'll use it for a little while and then maybe get a bigger one. If so, you have a $50 tent that other people could use OR if your marriage is anything like mine was, you can sleep in separate tents.

I have been so broke this week, been trying to sell this thing forever since it's just sitting here and I'll never use it. posted it first $30, then $15, now $5. Honestly I just need some beer money. Shipping will prob be about $12 and it will go out mon. morning. the exact model is the Okuma Cascade S-903-5, it's 9' long and apparently 5 weight. Handle is still shrink wrapped. This seems to be the model, except mine is just the rod, doesn't come with the reel. I can do paypal. Thanks for taking a look
