Attitude
There are two keys to suaveness, in general:
Okay, great. So how do you do that?
Actions
Practice
Here's what no one else does: practice.
You can practice anything you want to practice. Want to do better next time? Practice it on your own. This is why 99% of an NFL player's life is practice and only 1% of it is the actual game.
Visualize this happening again, and visualize yourself doing everything the right way. Really, sit down for like 15-20 minutes and write down how you think it would go in a situation where you could get everybody to win. Think about what you'd have to do and say. Then practice saying that.
You don't want to repeat anything verbatim when the situation arises again in real life, but you do want the feeling of having been there before.
Finally, take my own advice with a grain of salt; I might not have gotten your specific situation correct. It happens. Read Crucial Confrontations and really bone up on this if you want to handle it right next time. http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Confrontations-Resolving-Promises-Expectations/dp/0071446524
Depending on your budget, I would suggest you few of my favorite.
I wore Legend Intense 3 days/week during my university classes. Good choice, it smells both fresh and class. Base notes (after 2-3 hours) are my favorite.
Terre d'Hermès is my next buy. Perfect for spring/summer. Smells fruity, woody and earthy.
However, I would suggest you to take care. Smell is a refined sense, your preference won't necessarily match his. Before buying, you should think about trying with him, make this a enjoyable experience.
/r/stoicism is an amazing philosophy of life. If you aren't familiar with it, you should be.
Read up on some Marcus Aurelius; he was perhaps the last "good" Roman emperor.
Also, the above mentioned Seneca. Epictetus is also very noteworthy.
There's also some great modern day work on the subject by Ryan Holiday
And William B. Irvine
Two small touches of luxury I own and appreciate are my French Press and Coffee Grinder. Being able to buy a bag of whole coffee beans from a local roaster and give them a proper grind and brew is a great way to star my mornings.
I use a Baratza Encore Grinder - a often recommended grinder from /r/Coffee and they can be found refurbished from the manufacturer themselves occasionally if the price is a tad much.
As far as the French Press itself - I use this one. Doesn't look too fancy, but its insulated well enough that I don't have to rush drinking my coffee before it gets too cold.
Just going to drop this in here.
