I don't care as much about the pockets inside, so I don't have much to help with on that, but as far as outside goes...

5.11 Has a nice radio pouch that fits perfectly and works really well.

Maxpedition AGR has a pretty closely matching water bottle holder, but I feel it's 1 molle too large for the GR1.

Vanquest has an awesome skeletonized bottle holder that fits perfectly and matches well.

I can't speak to fusion directly, but I had a microdiscectomy on my L5-S1 four years ago. Mine was due to a massive herniation at the L5-S1. Originally, the doctor thought he was going to have to fuse me as the location of herniation was in a place that was difficult to reach, but in the end he didn't.

Since my surgery, I made a full recovery and am stronger now than ever. Since surgery, I've competed in several Crossfit competitions (I even won one), done mountain ultra races, Spartan Trifectia's, and about 30 GORUCK events (including a bunch of heavies and a couple HTLs). I still ruck several times a week (many times with a 75# ruck) and Olympic lift in my daily workouts.

Your post op recovery/rehab is key. Don't rush it... listen to your body. I highly recommend the "Foundation Training" program (www.foundationtraining.com). I followed this programming to a "T" the weeks following surgery and I truly believe that it was a major contributor to my recovery/results (positive mindset/outlook is #1). The program focuses on redefining your "core" as not your abs, but your posterior chain muscles. The exercises are very "yoga-ish", but don't let it fool you, I've seen it make gym-rat & muscle heads alike shiver in their own puddle of sweat. Here's a link to the actual book I used https://www.amazon.com/Foundation-Redefine-Your-Conquer-Confidence/dp/1609611004. Several times a week I still integrate their movements into my workouts.

Best of Luck!!!

Hey guys!
This is my 34L GR2, EDC and Travel bag, and I LOVE everything about it.

I used 1 set of these as compression straps. They are very sturdy and work perfect with the GR2's additional MOLLE row evenly distributing the pulling force. My bag was pretty full and with these straps I managed to compress it nicely with an aesthetically pleasing look.

I made the cord net with this 1/8" shock cord, this zipper pull and this cord stopper. I ended using this shock cord net a lot to hold my hoodie or my jacket. Highly recommended, and these cord stoppers and zipper pulls are the sturdier ones I could find, they grip on the cord really hard.

And finally my favorite patch so far! :).

I use Eagle Creek compression packing cubes. The larger one fits horizontally almost perfectly in the bottom portion of my GR2 34L, the smaller on fits directly above it with some room to spare on the side (I usually cram something like a light windbreaker in that area for quick access). The fit is nearly perfect.

Depending on how you pack you can essentially put two sets of these on top of each other, e.g. one set completely full and packed to the brim, another about half full to take up the entire volume of the main compartment.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010B2I6Q6/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Superior to GR packing cubes because:

  1. They fit;
  2. They compress;
  3. They come in non-black colors so you can see what's going on inside your bag;
  4. Much cheaper.

Edit: you can also buy the non-compressing ones since zipping up the GR2 essentially compresses things for you. I've found that the Eagle Creek ones when crammed to the max and compressed form a sort of elliptical shape so you end up with some unused volume.

It's a little big for 3 days but I love my Maxpedition Tactical Toiletry Bag it's heavy nylon comes in black and has a clear pouch that you can easily remove for TSA, although I just always through the whole bag in the TSA bin and I've never had a problem. Has a hanging hook and strap and I've used it for 2-3 weeks at a time.

I bought a pair of these (round, standard-barbell) 20# plates when I thought I was going to do my next event in my GR1, but I bought a Rucker 2.0 based on the assumption (based on posted measurements) that one will fit in the plate pocket.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IHM82XA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My Rucker is out for delivery right now, so I should get it tonight. If you don't hear otherwise by tomorrow, you can assume I got the plate into the pocket. :)

Edit: the bag arrived, and the 20lb plate above just barely fits the opening at the top, and then sinks to the bottom of the pocket, which is good enough for me. (If I want it up another inch or two, I can yoga block it.) Hope this helps!

Skywalker505 knows his straps. However that is the MINI OP/Tech S.O.S Strap. I also use that same strap on my Tom Bihn Pilot and it fits perfectly. The Tom Bihn Absolute Strap is too big IMO for smaller bags and I also don't like the give in the strap when using it with a loaded Aeronaut 45 either. I've switched to carrying the Aeronaut only in backpack mode unless I'm boarding or checking into a hotel. I thought I would retire my Aeronaut 45 when my GR2 40L arrived but I think I'll keep both. I have become a GoRuck fan but Tom Bihn bags have served me well for MANY years and for MANY trips. Both are quality bag manufacturers and each piece has a different set of Pros and Cons. The one perfect bag has yet to be invented IMO. Here is a link to the mini: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001TST8U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hey, I have that shirt!

It took me a few carries, but I don't even notice the spots it rubbed initially, probably because my body got used to it. But what really helped me, especially with the bottom of the ruck while running, bear crawling etc. was a waist support. I am currently doing this, and it works amazingly well(for me). It is composed of two carabiners the same size (4" D shape) and this tactical belt, but I took all the extra crap off. You can kind of see how I put it together in the imgur album, but I based it off of this video.

I wear it while rucking and doing exercises. I like having a waist strap, but I know a lot of people have the opposite opinion. Good luck!

Wireless bluetooth for sure! However, when working out and rucking, I use these:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-SoundBuds-Headphones-Lightweight-Cancelling/dp/B06X19MMDG/ref=sr_1_12?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1542813756&sr=1-12&keywords=anker+bluetooth+headphones

I've gone through many bluetooth earbuds. I can't go full on earbud (no wires) because they tend to fall out of my ears. Secondly, i've tried "wired" bluetooth, and what's most annoying with those are that although you put the wire behind your neck, i've found the wire ends up not being even in terms of "tug/pull" and will cause an earbud to fall out of your ear while working out. Thirdly, the controls for wired bluetooth tend to just dangle, again causing an earbud to fall out.

Which leaves me to what i've linked. I prefer those because of the molded neck, which prevents too much movement, thus keeping the earbud in my ear. I love that the controls are on that neck brace, leaving the earbud wires to be evenly weighed accordingly.

Of course, in the end your mileage may vary and you have to do what works best for you. Just my opinion!

You have a bunch of different options available. What I typically do is take 2 inch industrial grade adhesive velcro (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C3EPH0I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and apply it where I want it. Then you can get all kinds of velcro attachable items to stick on it. If you want molle you can get panels like this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C3EPH0I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or this one https://www.amazon.com/BLACKHAWK-Identification-Panel-Speed-Clips/dp/B002T0DX12/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493059728&sr=8-2&keywords=molle+panel+velcro

Lots and lots of choices.

You could also glue in a molle panel with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TSYNG8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or just get a needle and thread and sew it in. It's not that hard and you'll learn some important skills that can save you a lot of money!

Green Belly is the way to go. Easy to eat on the go, dense, lightweight, and they taste pretty good too. https://www.amazon.com/Greenbelly-Backpacking-Meals-Ready-Eat/dp/B00MVDVKNA?th=1

u/kaosf · 2 pointsr/Goruck

I have lashed all sorts of crap to my GR2 - usually I use a carabiner in the top handle and either bungees or paracord in the MOLLE, but for a more convenient solution, maybe look at something like the [5.11 Tier System](https://www.amazon.com/5-11-Tactical-Rush-System-Sandstone/dp/B004SE9WKS/ref=sr_1_1?
ie=UTF8&qid=1524212928&sr=8-1&keywords=5.11%2Bsystem&th=1&psc=1).

Maybe you could use a MOLLE pouch on the bottom to hold the lower section of the bow, and find a way to secure it to the top using the handle somehow.

u/Firerain · 1 pointr/Goruck

UPDATE: So I ended up getting an elastic ruck cover off amazon with a cinch strap clip on it to hold it tight to the bag. Took it up to 100mph with no issues. I’m looking into getting some DWR but for now this seems to work fine.

I picked the medium size for my 26L GR1. Fits perfectly

u/grackula · 2 pointsr/Goruck

i found two of these climbing runners to come in very handy for carrying shit a lot easier:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002V6NV16/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

also, be sure to bring a foot med kit just in case.

i prefer 2 pair of socks but I like changing socks if given the opportunity.

u/minikin · 3 pointsr/Goruck

I attached a Molle waist belt to a Rush 24 and it has worked out great. I believe it has the same attachment points as the 12.

This is the one I use:

http://www.amazon.com/Army-Molle-Desert-Molded-Waist/dp/B006UBSXSY

u/swimkid07 · 5 pointsr/Goruck

I got this one. Worked perfectly for the Star Course with my Pixel 2. It does say doesn't fit the 6 plus, but I don't know the iPhone dimensions to know if the 8 would fit or not. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016TB7L6O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/mr_dillinga · 1 pointr/Goruck

That would be great - thanks. I just checked this link https://www.amazon.com/BLACKHAWK-Identification-Panel-Speed-Clips/dp/B002T0DX12/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493059728&sr=8-2&keywords=molle+panel+velcro but it appears to be meant to attach to existing molle to give you a velcro panel for patches. Your other link looks like a copy/paste of the first one. Do you actually have molle with a velco back? Closest thing I can find is this which I could cut down to size: https://www.us-elitegear.com/products/velocity-systems-molle-panel-short.

u/tylerdanielson · 3 pointsr/Goruck

I used KYDEX V Sheet - 0.118" Thick, Black, 12" x 24" Nominal, and cut it to size with a dremmel. Paid $16 for mine (currently $8 w/ FS) and it worked great.

EDIT: I noticed that the above link doesn't bring you right to the sheet I used. Make sure you change from 8x8 to "0.118" Thick, Black, 12" x 24" Nominal"

Condor Tech Sheath Plus

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016TB7L6O/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_ZFHKDbQQK8R6S

Works perfectly on my GR1 strap with a Pixel 3 in a case.

Probably wouldn't work for a phone much bigger, though.

u/twahlin · 2 pointsr/Goruck

Haha - I did feel a little weird purchasing from them, because I'm really not rucking that hard :)

Rather just trying to carry a bunch of stuff around a live out of a backpack.

I've seen some other folks purchase a kydex sheet, trace the current frame sheet, then cut it down.

u/AUT1GER · 1 pointr/Goruck

I use an Eagle Creek Pack It Sac with a manila folder. I just use the manila folder to help hold its shape. The sac is pretty thin, but it can get big if it needs it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F9S8T3S/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

u/Aouellet · 2 pointsr/Goruck

As a word to the wise, be careful if using a dremel, especially with thicker stuff ( I used .128" Kydex). Cutting wheels like to pull away and spew melted material and dust. The stuff isn't exactly compliant, which is why they use it for cutting boards.

I simply traced out the material off an existing frame sheet and cut it on a scroll saw. Then cleaned edges with a file. You can find a link to .118" Kydex from Amazon here. I got some in .128" from a material supply place. The thicker it is, the more rigid you'll get.

u/BiscuitCominInHot · 3 pointsr/Goruck

Just ordered two! If James says to do, don't think. Haha! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002V6NV16/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item
Assorted colors?! Hopefully pink or purple.

u/mrbill · 1 pointr/Goruck

I've always ordered this off Amazon. $14.20 each when in stock for Prime shipping.

KYDEX V Sheet - 0.118" Thick, Black, 12” x 24” Nominal

The .093 might be easier to work with, if/when it's ever in stock.

u/w0uld · 3 pointsr/Goruck

I use these straps on the molle of my GR2. They work well.

u/perryw · 1 pointr/Goruck

The sheets they come with are a different type of plastic and just more flexible by nature, so the thickness isn't a good comparison.

Maybe ask these guys if they can get you a bigger piece? I think that's even thicker than what I got on Amazon (.118"). Seems expensive though. http://www.casstrom.se/en/knife-making/kydex-black-33-mm-0125-15x30-cm.html

If you haven't read, getting that Kydex sheet in to a GR2 is going to be really tough.

u/pohhhh · 3 pointsr/Goruck

https://www.amazon.com/Small-Parts-KYDEX-V-Sheet/dp/B004U6VBU8?th=1

for me, I just used a sharp utility knife and bending and it would break along the scored line.
