OK, buckle-up! I'm going to save you a several hour journey into the bowels of the internet to hunt down all this particular information. :-)

Better Ear Tips for the BLON BL-03:

For good ear tips, pick up some Sony MH755 earphones for the BLONs. (They are available for ~$5 on Aliexpress, roughly the same on Ebay). The tips off of these Sony's are a perfect fit/match for the Blons. An added plus is that they come with an assortment of different sized tips, so you can pick the ones with the best fit for you.

Another great option on ear tips for the BLONs are the Final Audio Type E tips. Here's a source for them on Amazon. (I like these a little better than the MH755 tips, but either are really nice upgrades for the BLONs.)

Another tip for tips on BLONs... (Hah! Sorry, couldn't resist!) Some folks (to include me) add these small gaskets around the BLON's stem base in order to help get whatever tips they use to extend up and further out - sort of a tip booster seat. :-) This really helps to deliver a better seal. (The BLON stems are notoriously short, so folks with larger ears will definitely benefit from doing this more so than folks with small ears.)

Better cables for the BLON BL-03:

The Blons use a square, protruded .78mm 2 pin connector. (NX7-style). These are a bit harder to find, but they are out there if you want a perfect match to the square connector housing. (Note that you may need to trim the pins down a little to make them flush with the connector housing though - easily done using a pair of wire snips. Thanks Tacanacy!) Cable example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000129870705.html (Choosing the NX7 style option... Note these cables are probably overkill, but they are really nice cables.)

If you are willing to file/cut down the square edges of the Blon's cable connector to make it a bit more oval (using a hobby knife or small file), they can easily be made to fit any QDC or type "C" connector which is a pretty standard cable connector type. This will let you then fit any QDC connector based cable over the Blon's protruded plug and get a nice snug fit up against the housing of the Blon. Lots more options in types/brands of cable if you go this route. Here's a nice example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33018785015.html (Choosing the "QDC 3.5" option)

If you don't want to do the above mod (shave down the square edges of the Blon's connector), any exposed (non-hooded) connector that uses two pins (.78mm) will work just fine with the Blons, but they will be flush with the connector and not cover or sleeve over it. They will still be 100% functional and work great though.

As to cable brands, I've found that all of these are really good quality (in my order of preference): Nicehck, Kbear, Tripowin, Yinyoo, TRN

Also, if you see a bunch of different cable plug connectors (2.5mm, 3.5mm, 4.4mm) and don't know which is which, the 3.5mm plug is the one you'll want - it's the standard that will fit pretty much every audio device out there. (The others are typically used more with esoteric/higher-end audio gear which utilize balanced cable connections - ones which don't share a common ground wire between the left/right channels and require more connector contacts and an additional wire in the mix.)

I'd also recommend that you pick out at least an 8 core braided cable as they tend to be a bit thicker and *much* less tangle prone then the stock cables or others that use thinner wires. I really like the look/feel of the 16 core cables myself, but they may be a bit on the bulky side for some, especially if you plan to use them for fitness activities or around the gym.

And finally, if you are still reading this wall of text, no matter which cables you get, be sure to get the orientation of the plug right otherwise your audio will be out of phase and may sound a bit odd. It's pretty easy to mix up the plug orientation on the connectors! Here's a site you can use to check to make sure you got them right: https://www.audiocheck.net/audiotests_polaritycheck.php

Hope all this info helped!

I know I'm a bit late, but I'll answer anyway if you don't mind.

Wall of text ahead. Please, read only if you are really interested...

What I usually recommend when someone ask for advice about gaming headsets is: Gaming headset are crap 99% of the time. They provide very poor sound quality, and any good headphone (literally, even 40$ ones) will sound far better than expensive 300$ headsets. The question is not if headphones are better than headset (the answer is “Hell, YEAH”). The question is, are they better for you?

What are you planning to use your headphones for? Just for gaming, or for gaming and music listening?

If the answer is “just for gaming”, then ask yourself if a Hifi headphone is what you need. Usually games don’t really need high quality headphones, since they provide low quality sound, and you will be more concentrated gaming than listening. In that scenario, everything will serve you, and gaming headsets have the advantage of the integrated microphone.

So, if you want something good for gaming, and just for gaming, with integrated microphone, then the only two headsets with good enough quality sound (aka don’t suck) are:

HyperX Cloud (70$)

Sennheiser G4me One (170$)

Both are good choices. Or go with any fancy RGB headset you find (Logitech, Razer, Corsair, Steelseries, etc), you will most probably don’t notice the difference while gaming.

BUT, if you plan to use them for music listening besides gaming, then keep reading.

About the microphone problem

Hifi headphones for gaming have the disadvantage of having to deal with the micro thing. None of them have microphone incorporated, and you must find a workaround to the problem. Options available are:

1- Use a desk microphone like this

2- Some headphones have detachable cable. If the connector is a 3.5mm jack, you can substitute the cable with this V-Moda micro. That way you can have a microphone attached and still use a single cable. Main problem is that you must use this cable, no matter what, and if you end buying an amplifier, you can no longer use this microphone, as amplifiers don’t have micro input. Also, not all headphones are compatible, as not all use 3.5mm jack connections (Audio-technica and Sennheiser headphones are NOT compatible with V-moda Boom micro, cause they use 2.5mm jack)

3- use a modmic like this one or if your budget is tight, something like this.

The first option requires desk space and it’s expensive. The second one is not compatible with every headphone, and forces you to use this cable. The third one are detachable micro, with an extra cable you’ll have to deal with. Any of them are a nuisance. Any solution is annoying. All of them are an extra expense that must be accounted. If micro is a must and you are not willing to bother with this solutions, please, go back to HyperX Cloud or G4me One.

Ok, so, you really want some damn good headphones, that also can be used for gaming! Keep reading, please (are you bored yet?).

You can choose Closed back headphones (the classic ones you have already used. Closed back models offer good isolation and do not leak sound. This is your choice when there are people around you, or you want isolation from noisy a environment.) or Open Back headphones (Open back models offer next to no isolation and will leak sound -and allow you to hear what happens around you-, but they are the best sounding models). Open headphones achieve the best sound, soundstage (feeling that sound is coming from around you) and imaging (ability to locate the source of one sound).

If you are here because you want to get a replacement for a gaming headset, I would recommend you Open back, but since they don’t isolate, you must choose. If isolation is required, get closed back, if that’s not a concern, go open.

Some closed back cans:

Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. 100$. Balanced headphones, very good feedback from lots of people. Typical entry level headphones to the rabbit hole.

Sennheiser HD 598Cs. 125$. Balanced, very very detailed, great instrumental separation. Comfortable as hell, very recommended.

Beyerdynamic DT770. 160$. V-shaped signature (lots of bass and lots of treble). Amazing soundstage (for a closed headphone). Great for explosions, movies, and rock. Treble can be harsh if you are sensible. Get the 32 ohm version, as the 80 (may) and 250 (do) need an amplifier to work properly.

Those are some examples of entry-mid level of closed cans. There are lots more, depending of your budget!

As for open cans:

Superlux HD668b. 40$. Those are THE CANS. The best quality for low budget you can get. Hands down. Great soundstage, Bass light. They are not too comfortable, but pads can be changed for a deluxe comfort (extra expense). You are not getting anything better at this price. For gaming in a budget, this are the headphones you were looking for.

Philips SHP9500. 80$. Mid-forward signature. Good soundstage, great comfort. Very detailed. Another amazing quality for the budget headphone. Due its popularity, they’re getting harder and harder to get.

Sennheiser HD 598 SR. 170$. Very similar to the HD 598Cs, but with open back. Wider soundstage, a little less bass. Very balanced headphones. Super-duper comfortable. Great for long gaming sessions.

Philips Fidelio X2. 250$. V-shaped signature. Those are in another league. Build quality is just.. OMG. Extreme soundstage and imaging. More comfortable than the HD 598. Bass is BOOOOOM!!!. A little pricey, and can be somewhat fatiguing to listen if you are treble sensible, due to high treble.

Well, that’s all. I have selected only headphones that don’t need an amplifier. Now is your turn to research, watch some Youtube videos, read some reviews, and give them a try.

All this headphones are GOOD. No trash here, and all them will make you open your eyes when listening your music if you are coming from standard headsets. You will notice sounds, instruments, that you never realized they were there, even if you had listened this song a thousand times before. Try them, and be amazed.

Welcome to the rabbit hole.

I actually don’t see the need for surround sound. That’s more of a marketing gimmick really, as the usb 7.1 dongles suck. If you really need surround sound, get Dobly Atmos on your computer.

But I don’t think you really need either. Most games have really good audio, and some games like rainbow six siege literally say don’t use surround sound because it’s broken. You need a headset with good soundstage.

What’s soundstage? Well it’s being not only able to tell the direction of your enemy, but also the distance. That’s why I recommend open back headsets for gaming, though they do leak sound and your mic may pick that sound up. Don’t worry about it though, because what I recommend is omni directional and will basically only pick up your voice.

I recommend the Philips SHP9500/SHP9500s. They are to same thing but the s has a little bit more bass. You also might have trouble getting the 9500 because it is discontinued and not many are left. I recommend these because:

Great soundstage

Very comfortable

Has a lot of treble which is good for hearing footsteps.

Has a detachable cable Incase the wire breaks and so you can use a mic

It is extremely well priced at 80USD. It’s probably the best for gaming under 150 USD. And most importantly it will definitely fit you.

For mic, I recommend the Vmoda BoomPro. You just unplug the cable from the headphones and replace it with the BoomPro which is just a 3.5 mm cable with a mic attached. This is a super good mic.

I also highly recommend an amp both for gaming and music. The one I recommend has a switch with T D and B. T is treble boost (for gaming), d is flat, meaning it won’t change anything, and B is bass boost. Which you want if you listen to music because the 9500 has little bass.
I recommend the Syba Sonic DAC/AMP. Link at the bottom. This will definitely help sound quality as it bypasses your pc soundcard.
IMPORTANT: DON’T use the included usb cord in it as it will cause a short in your computer. You’ll need a different mini usb cable as the provide a really bad one.

To use the amp: This is a usb amp, so plug the usb into your computer and the mini USB port into the DAC/amp. The will power it so it will drain laptop battery with a laptop. Then all you do is is plug your headphone jack into the big 3.5mm headphone jack. Don’t use the one for a split cable because your headset isn’t a split cable.

That’s it! The total is about 150 bucks and will surpass anything for the price.

Don’t get a gaming headset. They just use cheap divers and RGB and day gaming to trick you, as they are way overpriced.

Z Reviews on YT (total audiophile geek) recommends this as well. I invite you to spend more time researching on his channel and other places to understand the mic and amp better. He has a best gaming gaming headsets video from a year ago. This setup is at the very front and one of the first things he talks about. Also goes very in depth on the whole subject of sound for gaming at the beginning. Here are the links:

9500s-https://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHP9500S-Precision-Over-ear-Headphones/dp/B00ENMK1DW

Vmoda BoomPro Mic - https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Microphone-Gaming-Communication/dp/B00BJ17WKK

Syba Soni DAC/amp - https://www.amazon.com/Syba-Digital-Headphone-Amplifier-Coaxial/dp/B009WN7QT4

Remember you need a different mini usb cable. I’d throw the one it came with away because it’s garbage and possibly a fire hazard.

Please watch Z Reviews Gaming Headphone guise from a year ago. The first 25 minutes are all you really need to hear. They explain audio in-depth and talk about the headphones and this combo. Good luck!

Feel free to reach out to me as I can help with the setup or usage, but r/ZReviews is probably a better option. You’ll get help ASAP from a whole hutch of audiophiles who know their stuff.

As someone who also enjoys their X2 very much, I can make two suggestions:

Closed-back headphone: B&O H6gen.2.

Good build quality while still being light, thin, and easily portable. Comes with a slim carrying case. Comfort is pretty good - some people praise the comfort highly; I don't think it's quite all that, but it's still quite good. The cable is kind of weak, but it's easily replaceable - in fact, I needed a longer cable and my easy solution was to take a spare stock X2 cable and sand down the barrel at the thinner end just a tad to fit the H6. The sound is the star - clean, clear, musical, fairly well-balanced. Very enjoyable and engaging.

There happens to be a refurb unit in tan available from the U.S. if you like the color. I have purchased these units and they are indistinguishable from a new factory unit. Might save you money even after shipping and taxes; not sure.

Iem: Ikko OH1

Again, great sound in the same vein as the X2. Solid alloy casing for durability. Light and very comfortable. Love 'em.

The FiiO FH5 also get a lot of praise, but I haven't had the chance to try them myself so I can't comment.

Since I went through the same mess recently:

AKG K702 is €110 on amazon.de right now, incredible price for what it is. AKG's website lists it at $349 but that seems unrealistic, but I couldn't find it on amazon.com so whatever (edit: I actually found it and didn't realize, and it's $200 in the US!). It's really a good starting point in my opinion since it's so "unopinionated". It's also astonishingly comfortable, it's super lightweight so you barely feel the headband. In comparison the Fidelio X2 is like a brick on my head. For the genres you listed, in my experience so far, metal can be meh (depends really, right now I have Baying of the Hounds playing and it's alright), jazz is very enjoyable (but "jazz"?? depends even more)... if I'm understanding what you mean by "acoustic chill" correctly that's totally fine. EDM I don't really listen to, but I do listen to techno/tech house/deep house and it's an interesting experience. It doesn't move your head like the music sometimes aims to do, but you can actually listen to everything that's going on, so that's nice to have if you're interested. It's excellent with trance since there's so much going on all the time and now you can follow it all.

That leaves you enough room to get a JDS Atom for €170 [1] and then €97 for a DAC... I'm quite happy with my FX Audio DAC-X6; but if you already wrote off that budget, Topping D30 is way superior in the audiosciencereview measurements. Then again the consensus seems to be that the difference would not be audible -- I haven't used another DAC myself so I don't have an opinion on this. And don't rely on X6's amp (since you already have the budget), e.g. the reduction in background noise was very obvious going from X6 alone to X6+Atom.

[1]: yes it's twice the price in EU compared to US unfortunately. No it's not an amazon reseller ripoff, shipping + tax already comes close and then you don't have to deal with customs etc.

more edit: I just saw that you said you're from Turkey. Do you live there? How do you plan to use amazon.de (with the new zero-allowance customs policy etc.), ship to Turkey or someone in Germany/EU receives and brings to you? I'm asking because in your case it might be better to order directly from JDS. You would have to deal with customs yourself though, I imagine that's huge trouble if you're not in İstanbul.

Anything will work. The community likes the Fiio e10k https://www.amazon.ca/FiiO-Olympus-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00LP3AMC2/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=fiio+k5&qid=1563641976&s=gateway&sr=8-5 . It’s CDN$ 20 more, but is from a reputable company and probably will work and sound better when really amplifying the signal for your left ear. I’m not sure how “close” you are to the wanted noise level, but this will probably be a strong bet in being a good solution.

I only say strong bet, and not surefire as I don’t want to promise that it will work as a solution, only that from my research it seems like a strong option. I’m not sure whether you still can’t hear anything or if you only need to tweak it like 1.5x the loudness to get it to where you want. Without you finding and going to a store that sells headphone amps it’s a partial gamble, but something like this should at least be a strong contender to fixing the issue.

u/BootsandPants · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

What kind of games do you play? For competitive FPS where positional queues and imaging are important, I'd go with a used HD700 or even HD800. Will be hard to find on a $400 budget, but maybe you'll find the 700.

For more single player or immersive games, you have a lot of different options. This will come down to more of what sort of sound signature you like (bass, mid, treble forward?). I would put the HD600 series here moreso than in the competitive gaming realm.

Honestly, once you get above where you're at now, the diminishing returns become pretty apparent. I don't notice enough difference when gaming between my ATH-AD700x and my HD800 that would make me want to spend the difference for gaming alone. Sure the soundstage on the 800s is wider and the imaging slightly better, but it doesn't translate to that much of an edge in game. The 700x (or 598 in your case) is already leaps and bounds ahead of whatever other fart cannons most other people are using. I'd honestly just stick with what you've got.

As stated in other replies, get a desktop mic, a boom mic, a modmic, or any sort of wired clipon. Most/all gaming headsets are not great, or just OK, and you will be sacrificing sound quality and soundstage going to one of those from your 598s. This mic is $10 and actually sounds pretty darn good. I clip it on to whatever pair of headphones I pick up (depending on the game).

What are you driving your 598s with? You may see some improvement investing in your source.

Save your money and don't buy super fancy cables expecting much difference. Good solid cables shouldn't cost more than $50. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think they drastically change the sound signature, at least to my ears.

u/shanx057 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

I would split your budget to get two headphones for dedicated use.

  1. a. Gaming Headphone => Since you mainly listed FPS titles that require you to pin point footsteps and shots, I would recommend the Audio Technica ATH AD 700x (AD700x Amazon Link) for $92. These headphones are well respected and loved for FPS titles with the same requirements as yours. They don't need an amp and can be driven from your motherboard with ease.
    b. Gaming microphone => Get the ModMic 4.0 (ModMic 4.0 Amazon Link) for $50. These are great and can be driven using your motherboard. However I would suggest pairing them with something like this (USB Sound Card Amazon Link) for best results - add another $15 for this.

  2. Music and movies headphone => Get something like the HD 599 (HD 599 Amazon Link) from Sennheiser if you want good balanced sound without breaking the bank. They are easy to drive using your mobo and if you get an amp down the line they will increase the volume of these headphones. These cans are like $149 now.

So you will be spending $157 for the gaming headphone and mic and $148 for the music/movies headphone. I know this has a huge drawback of switching headphones when you want to do either, but you can also use the HD 599 for gaming as it has good imaging. The sound stage is not as wide as the AD700x but it is still good enough for positioning shots. However this will give you the (relatively) best of both worlds for your budget. :)

  • Meze 99's https://www.amazon.com/Meze-Neo-Headphones-Silver-Black/dp/B06XKJ2GK4

  • B&O H6 https://www.amazon.com/PLAY-Bang-Olufsen-Beoplay-Black/dp/B00C4VFYFY

I don't think either are particularly bassy, but do sound very good, I think the Meze have decent soundstage, I don't remember about the H6's, only that they sounded quite good, and at 200$ for the black ones, it's a steal. I think they're normally like 400$.

I would suggest finding some Fostex THX-00's used, you can generally find them below $300, maybe even find one where the owner did a removable cable mod, I did it on my own pair and highly recommend it. The TRX-00's are the newer version with a removable cable, but harder to find used. They sound better with an amp, but your phone will power them decently, and the bass is unlike any headphone you've ever heard. The Sub bass is more like being in a room with a sub, than headphones, though they're not "bass heavy" the bass is just of an extremely high quality, and very strong and responsive. Buying them new is more like 450-500$ depending on the type of wood you get, but on the used market you can get them for a massive discount, I got my pair for 190$.

Hello, friend. In these threads, there are usually about two types of answers, so I'll summarize them for you.

Get the ATH-M50x if you want to pop more. What I mean by that is that with some music, it will sound more energized, lively, and carry a greater presence. The keyword, however, is that it is with some genres of music. With other kinds, the tuning toward bass-heavy, instrumental music might become a little obvious. Still, if that is the type of music you listen to, all the better!

But if you prefer something with a little more harmony, then you might consider getting the Sennheiser HD 598 Cs. These are a bit more balanced throughout, and are more fitting to a relatively dynamic sense of music, focusing on the relative balance throughout. The sound has been tamed on all ends pretty well, so you get a better sense of what to expect from them.

As a final note, these headphones can be additionally tuned through the use of an equalizer on your phone or computer, so I encourage you to look into that; they can turn decent headphones in to the sound you need!

Several good options on Amazon DE - there is a button to change language to english on the website.

Before we go into the options. Soundstage and imagining can help you determine where a gunshot or footsteps come from in an FPS for instance, or if there is something behind you in an RPG(Skyrim, Fallout(a mix of rpg and shooter) and in MMORPGs you can hear if the boss drops shit behind you. This is primarily regarding gaming, getting into how soundstage and imagine works in music would be too long to explain. But this is the basics.

Open back: Better soundstage and Imaging - Mostly good for FPS games(but you can hear people in the room around you)

AKG K712 - I used to both listen to music and game with these, and they are a good value

Beyerdynamic DT 880 - I use this one for all genres, though it might be too analytical for you

Audio Technica ATH-AD700x - These are absolutely amazing for FPS games, but you might find them a bit boring in the music department coming from the A40s

Closed back : These close you off from the outside world, imaging isn't as good, but you won't hear people around you as much IRL

Beyerdynamic Custon One Pro - They have a rather bass heavy sound signature, but the highs are clear and can be useful(depending on the game you play.

Sennheiser Momentum 2 Over-Ear(cabled version) - They aren't the best for shooters, but all other kinds of games they can do just fine. They are 56% off right now.

Audio Technica ATH-MSR7BK - These are highly regarded for gaming and are also an amazing all rounder for music

Audio Technica ATH-A700x - These are the closed back version of the AD700x they are good for gaming and a good all rounder, because of their closed back they have a warmer sound than the AD700x which is rather cold.

these, and these, and these, and these and these and these are probably the only your budget options, with the best being the last 3. The stuff I listed usually applies for people below 100 dollars but I am not aware of any great options apart maybe from the hd 4.50 that are between those prices. I think the best sounding headphones are hd 4.40, atleast according to people at r/headphones and reviewers, but their earcups, if you have above average ears, will be over ear and there won't be much comfort. The other pick would be the wh ch700n, I actually tested those and really liked them, they were a nice budget pair. If you have any chance to try them out yourself, I highly suggest you to do so

u/Togod5 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

I think the monoprice retros with good pads are too cheap not to try. They have much more bass and width than the 58x. The 12 foot attached cable might be a dealbreaker, but they sound great and are alot more comfortable than the 58x imo.

I think they compliment each other pretty well

u/ggfools · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

> That's the primary reason I got the 2i2 in the first place.
Also, what do you mean by line level?

"line level" is a particular standardized signal voltage/etc that is generally used over 3.5mm/RCA cables for connection between DACS/Amps/etc.

> Seems like just too much equipment overall hahah. Do you have any other ideas for me?

if you are against using software to switch between devices then your options are sort of limited, you could go with a higher end audio interface that should include a more powerful headphone amp, like the Mackie Big Knob Studio Monitor Controller or the JBL ACTIVE-1 the JBL monitor one doesn't have an XLR input, but you could continue to use your 2i2 for your mic.

you could also go with a dac+headphone amp that has a line out like the Fiio E10k then connect the line out to a passive speaker control like the JBL PATCH or Mackie Big Knob Passive then the output from that to your LSR305's with this solution you would also continue to use the 2i2 for your mic input.

you could also consider a USB Mixer, like the Yamaha AG03 but I don't know if the headphone amp in it is great or not.

u/Ronjon18 · 14 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

I had these Game One's before going with the Sennheiser Jubilee 58x and Modmic 4 setup. The 58x is easy to drive, and sound amazing! I also had the Philips SHP9500, and it did not sound nearly as good as the 58x, but it's so much cheaper that it's well within your budget. If listening to music is important to you, then I believe the separate mic setup would be a much better fit. Otherwise, I highly recommend the Game One's.

u/poside99 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

You should check out the ES100 as a potential alternative to a BT cable. It's basically a Bluetooth dac/amp unit that's been getting really rave reviews.

From what I have googled and tried out, most BT iem cables kinda suck and have pretty lame battery life. At $100 it's just slightly more expensive than a Bluetooth cable but with superior performance (as it also acts as a dac and amp), better battery life and a great mobile app. Planning to snag one up for myself too.

u/kasmog · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

Tin T2 is one of the best for price to performance, but it's not for everyone. The sound signature is flat and for some people, it's lacking on bass. In exchange though, it gives you amazing clarity and neutral sound.
It will depend on the music you mostly listen to.
Amazon Link for Tin T2. Make sure to just get the T2 and not the T2 Pro or the T3.

u/The_Sloth_Racer · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Sennheiser makes the best gaming headsets that I've tried. I have the PC 363D and love them. Get the PC 373D (Amazon) for $138 and you'll be all set.

As far as wired to wireless, you're always better off with wired. Wireless are more expensive for lower quality as that's the tradeoff with wireless. For the best quality, wired headphones are the way to go.

u/SepticNightmare · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Sennheiser Game Ones, they are on Amazon for $130.16 right now, and there is a lot of value there. I own them and they have great sound for the price, they are comfortable , and have a good sounding mic. Here is a link: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Game-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sennheiser+game+one&qid=1569683589&s=gateway&sr=8-3

u/JariDeLeon · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

There are some headsets made by brands that do proper headphones like sennheiser, beyerdynamic and audiotechnica. You should maybe take a look at the Sennheiser game one's or game zero's if not these models maybe you should check out the beyerdynamic custom game headset. If you somehow don't find something you like from brands like these and want a normal gaming branded headset you could get something from hyperx. Hyperx headsets tend to be better than the other gaming brands and usually are just rebranded models from other companys. For example their cloud model is a rebranded takstar pro 80 headphone. Also, you could buy a cable with a microphone and just replace the stock cable from headphones that have a removable cable.

Edit: The sennheiser PC37X made in collaboration with Massdrop might also be a good option for you.

u/xsaifo7 · 0 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

i'am no headphones enthusiast at all but for a gaming headset these are what i would recommend:

Sennheiser PC37X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spktoWVAlTU

Logitech G PRO X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8nBLX9rDWI&t=215s

or you could buy the 58x jubilee and install a modmic on it, and get a better sound quality from more on the professional side headphones and a much better mic quality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZtGFdurGmU

and here is a similar headset to the Senhheiser PC37X : https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sennheiser+game+one&qid=1562796435&s=gateway&sr=8-3

u/Wiggitamoo · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

I've been having the same debate as you for a while. I think the answer is to get both (if you can) because they're built for different things, but do them excellently.

What I did was buy the PC37X, because I'll mainly be using them for gaming, and since they provide a more open soundstage, more base and have an excellent mic, I think that they'll work better for me.

I'm going to try pairing them with a cheap DAC/amp, I'm going to be testing them this week with either the Fiio BTR3 connected through USB C (which I can also use wirelessly with my iPhone over Bluetooth and other headphones). So they're convenient but may be lacking a bit in power.

I'll also be testing it with Syba Sonic's UBS 24 bit 96 KHz DAC/Amp (For under $40 it's hard to argue with)

I also considered the Sennheiser GSX 1000 Gaming Audio Amplifier, but will only test it out if the other options don't perform well for me.

I'll let you know how it goes. What option did you end up going with u/HasHooves?

u/fozon · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

Antlion just announced their ModMic Wireless, it looks nice. But maybe they are too pricey for your budget.

As it was already suggested a Sivga SV007 with a Vmoda Boompro should be good. Or a Custom Studio + Vmoda Boompro.

However with those it might not be practical to always unplug them and vice versa. An external unit with a dedicated microphone port like the Syba Sonic could help you though.

u/AJCxZ0 · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

As awesome as the HD 58X Jubilee is at $149.99 (-$10 with a referral from a Massdrop member) when it's available, that's not under $75.

You need the other popular insanely-good-for-the-price basstastic option: the Monoprice Modern Retro. With a promo code you can get it for ~$18 or pick up an open box one for $9.99. Get Brainwavz XL pads for $24.50 on Amazon for the PU leather in your choice of colours.

When you have saved a few more dollars, look for a cheap but good USB headphone DAC/amp like the FX Audio DAC-X6 or SMSL M3.

u/Hashebrowns · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Get the Custom One Studio! I believe the stock cable is 3m long too but it's detachable, so you can swap it out.

It has some neat features like 'sliders' on the bottom of the cups that change the base level (Closed back to semi open to open) and you can swap out the panels on the cups, if you're into that.

I think it's a worthy upgrade from the DT770. https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-Custom-Studio-Closed-Headphone/dp/B00OAR8VUA

Edit: Also, Custom Cans makes custom DT770s with a detachable cable mod for 135 euros. Furthermore, you can get a custom cable made by them with your choice of length and color for 60 euros, and they'll include it with the headphones.

u/Archayor · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

I wouldn't recommend 600 ohm headphones if you don't want to invest at least around €200 in a proper DAC/Amp. You'll have a better listening experience going for lower impedance headphones in that case.

You could for example get a Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee for €190, and add a FiiO E10K for €68 if you need a dedicated DAC/Amp as well. The 58X is easy enough to drive that a dedicated DAC/Amp isn't even a necessity though, so you might want to get the headphones first and decide later if you want to add a DAC/Amp to it as well.

I understood that the DT 990 Pro's lower impedance models are noticably inferior to the 600 ohm version, which is why I'd suggest the 58X instead.

Should you really want the 600 ohm DT 990 Pro's though, I'd suggest at least something like a Topping DX3 Pro.

u/hi_im_snowman · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

I'm 100% biased (because I own them) but the Massdrop K7xx, Fiio E10k Amp/DAC & a Modmic 5 is my current trio and yes, it's expensive but it sounds tremendous, simply tremendous for the price.

It blows my mind that this kind of high-end setup only costs ~$350 usd or so. My gf's brother has the top-end Steelseries ARCTIS PRO Wireless and they sound like shit compared to my k7xx. I'm not kidding nor exaggerating. He wanted to return them after hearing my setup but couldn't because he bought them on black Friday.

The k7xx have an extremely wide soundstage which is just absolutely epic for positional shooters and excellent for ambient games like resident evil, bioshock, etc.

If you check out reviews online (which you should), you'll see that most reviewers agree, the K7xx punches WAY above its class at $200. It rivals headphones up to the $600 range in sound quality.

I'll take that over wireless "gaming-grade" garbage all day, every day.

Or should I be looking over 100 bucks

u/Prospero424 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Since you need them to be closed-back for isolation, I would suggest these (in ascending cost order):

Audio Technica mx50 ($150)

V-MODA Crossfade M-100 ($250)

Meze 99 Classics ($300)

The Audio Technicas are a good all-rounder, which a slight emphasis on the bass. The even cheaper mx40s are more neutral. The V-Moda Crossfades are the most "exciting" in that the frequency response is going to be more v-shaped with emphasized bass and sparkly treble. The Meze 99s are, honestly, a big step up and are some of the most universally-acclaimed closed-back cans around. But I know they're a bit out of your price range. Just read the reviews of these models and see which one you think is the best fit.

u/kittysneeze88 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

You could by a Bluetooth dac/amp like the ES100 , which has that feature. That way you could use that feature with any headphone or earphone you like in the future.

The firmware updates and mobile app for the device allow you to customize the amount of transparency, and you can set it so if you hold a certain button it turns on/off. That way you don’t need to be in the app to activate it.

Not to mention, it also runs balanced and has clean power for most portable IEMs/Headphones.

u/memetaskforce420 · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

u/Zero0400 · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

I'd recommend either the Sennheiser 598 and get yourself a modmic,

or go simple and just get a Sennheiser GAME ONE with a mic already built in.

My friends really enjoy the game one's since the mic mutes itself when it's flipped upwards.

u/drop_official · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

You can make them wireless by plugging them into a Bluetooth puck like this: https://smile.amazon.com/EarStudio-ES100-24bit-High-Resolution-Bluetooth-Unbalanced/dp/B078H4YD2L?sa-no-redirect=1

In terms of are they good in an office setting, depends on the setting. If it's quiet like a library, then no. If it's an open-space where people are talking and meeting (sorta like a non-busy coffee shop), then you'll be fine.

u/paulgt · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

It depends on what you want out of your headphones-- closed or open back, bassy, treble, flat, etc.

As a general guideline for your price point though, ATH-M50x's are well regarded.

A decent mic to pair with that could be something like the cheap but quality Samson Go Mic or if you like how headsets are setup, you could always get a Boom mic that attatches to your headphones and works like a normal headset would.

u/clashtom · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

https://www.amazon.com/Syba-SD-DAC63057-Stereo-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B009WN7QT4 something like the syba sonic SD-DAC63057 would be good for a budget dac/amp with an added bonus mic input.

u/G-Craka · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

I didn't need an external amp for my g4me ones but that's because my motherboard audio was solid. But if it's lacking you can check out something cheap like this one: https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E10K-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00LP3AMC2

It'll clean up the sound and make them louder. Or if you've got money to burn you can get much more expensive things.

I've since upgrade from the g4me ones and now my gf uses them. But I gotta say, those are THE most comfy headphones I've ever used.

u/rtm416 · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

I'll second the 58x. It's what I upgraded to after using the 598's since the XBOne came out.

You'll need a microphone and a splitter, I use a Modmic with a Mic/Phones breakout. I'd buy two of those and keep the spare handy, as mine seems to give up the ghost every 6-12 months. I don't know if other splitters are better, but the one I linked is the 3rd one I've tried and it's the best so far.

EDIT: This probably should've been its own comment but whatevs.

u/oddsnsodds · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

The Tin Audio T2 IEMs are $50 and sound good. They also use MMCX cable connectors, so you can replace the wires with a Bluetooth band if you'd like.

For FPS gaming I use the AKG K702 because in Italy these headphones are very cheap on amazon and they have a great soundstage and accurate imaging (bass frequencies are quite recessed). I feel I can recommend these headphones and, if I lived in USA, I probably would have taken the AKG K7XX.

As a mic, I suggest you a not very expensive lavalier microphone or desktop microphone.

You could go with the ES100 since it's Bluetooth and offers features that more expensive, non-BT desktop amps don't while also leaving room for a future upgrade if you choose. When you do upgrade, ES100 won't go out of style. HE4XX are kinda bright while this leans neutral/warmish and gives you the option to save EQs to your liking. Someone else could help you better with the tube and solid state amp differences, but I've heard that planars don't do well with tube.

Keep in mind, I'm not sure if these are available where you are, but it was suggested to me to look at TIN Audio T2 which come with a detachable cable, and also pick up the TRN BT3 bluetooth cable to use with them. That might be stretching your budget, but that's one of the options I'm looking at. Also considering the Aukey Latitude set and Shure SE112 (on the very tip top of my budget). Properly powered, the 770-80 can deliver very deep, textured, powerful bass when the music calls for it. So, something is very wrong here :), but, it's an easy fix.

Low volume and poor bass response are the first indicators that headphones are being underpowered. You need an amp. Might I suggest a FiiO E10K? It has excellent quality and is cheap.

Buy a pair of Tin Audio T2s and MMCX cables when you break them. Or buy a few immediately from Aliexpress and hope you don't break them in the month they take to deliver.

If I could have a little bit more of your time, The [ath m50x](http://Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVLUR86/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FjC4DbXWDAPD7) is also a headphone I'm seeing frequently however there are generally mixed reactions, some people love it some people hate it for the life of it. If I move out of reddit though people love these to the point where I suspect there is some sneaky marketing going on.
