Ah, I'm actually not that knowledgeable on microphones beyond the ubiquitous SM58s I used for some brief broadcasting work. I'm not sure how the audio/headphones community stands on the common USB condensers that most gamers who don't use headsets own, but I can recommend the ones I've used or heard very often on Discord/TS.

I have a Samson Meteor. It was inexpensive, the sound isn't bad at all, and I like it. It picks up my mechanical a little more harshly than I'd like, but that's on me for bottoming out when I type. My friends have either the Blue Yeti or the Pro variant, or the AT2020 (not sure which model, USB or XLR!). I think between all of us we cover all the most commonly recommended microphones under $200. Hope this wasn't all old information to you. :)

Yeah I actually really enjoy bass but not when the mids and highs are suffering from it. But yeah on the 18s 100% would say to not hesitate to pick these up. Overall they feel on the flat side which is a good thing to me, very authentic. I feel like I'm hearing exactly what the recording engineer intended for me to hear in incredibly clear detail. With none of the bass issues I felt with the 11's even though the bass and sub do show up when they should. Love Them!

Also I use the Ear Studio Es-100 because I really wanted a decent wireless option. Good Luck picking a pair of monitors! Post them when you get them!

It's this:

Wood version of:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JLZV9J4/

I've got both, easily the nicest cheap-ish stands I've tried IMO; and I've tried more than I care to admit (more than what's listed here even)... Those work well with regular headbands and suspension strap style headbands like ZMF etc.

The Division Bell by Pink Floyd (24 bit/96 kHz lossless).

Onkyo DP-X1 digital audio player (not to be confused with the side-upgraded model DP-X1A).
DAP was set to BTG Balanced Out, Variable Line Out Mode, Digital Filter Setting set to Short, max Volume Limiter, High Gain. The DAP is my master volume control to my 2x NuForce HA-200 monoblocks.

DHC 2.5mm TRRS to 2x 3-Pin XLR OCC pure silver Litz cable.
No link as this was a one off prototype cable to run my specific setup, until I can obtain a fully-fledged balanced DAC (such as the Oppo Sonica DAC).

2x Optoma NuForce HA-200 monoblock amplifiers, via Massdrop.
See here for specs.
Both monoblock volume pots are set to unity gain (0dB, max volume) so that I could use my source (Onkyo DP-X1) as the master volume control (it has 2Vrms balanced output as far as I can tell).

DHC 2x 3-Pin XLR to 4-Pin XLR Complement4 OCC pure silver Litz (22AWG) balanced adapter.

DHC Prion4 flagship OCC pure silver Litz (18.8AWG) balanced cable webpage .
My version is a custom The Legend of Zelda themed birthday present cable (red sleeve for hearts, blue sleeving representing the Hylian Shield, and one brass 3D printed cable metal with Prion4 and Triforce logs on left channel of cable).

Audeze EL-8 Titanium headphones.
In order to use the Prion4 cable above, DHC made one-off custom EL-8 series Zync adapters for me.

The Forward Book of Poetry 2017 by Forward, Vahni Capildeo, Ian Duhig, Melissa Lee-Houghton, Denise Riley, and Alice Oswald (US link here) (ISBN: 978-0571330805).

Nice! Yeah I read they were a little forward on the top end. I was looking to ditch my av receiver and 5.1 setup. these and the kantos looked really attractive with their plethora of inputs! I can hook up a TV and a turntable and not have to worry about an integrated amp/phono pre plus I can change volume and inputs with remote.

Edit: sorry, was referring to the PMs. Bit of a price difference haha

Well, I couldn't find the pictures but IIRC, the mod I did consisted of:

  • Cutting out circular foamie sheets ported in the center; placed right behind the driver; as big as the driver
  • Cutting out circular some sort of wool; no ports; behind the foamie sheet; as big as the driver (I believe I used arctic wool, don't think it has to be arctic wool as long as it's not very thick). I think I used 2 or 3 layers of that.
  • Cotton sheets on the front of the driver, I think I used quite a bit of layers to tame the elevated treble response caused by the foamie sheet. You can pretty much use as much as needed.
  • Speaker cloth over the cotton sheet. I use blu-tack to hold sandwiched front damping in place. You can get cheap sample speaker cloth here. They send a whole bunch and it's essentially free + shippnig IIRC.
  • I used Yamaha YH-1 earpads since they seal well on my ears. I believe these earpads may work as well. Just gotta adhere them on with either glue or double-sided tape.
  • Of course as I mentioned above, cutting out the silver baffle so that the driver is exposed. This does allow the driver to fall through, so I would recommend cutting out some sort of acoustically transparent material to act like a net so that the drivers won't fall through.

If I decide to get another pair, I'll try to do a more comprehensive guide.

My 30 minute real-time impressions:

I think if you like the signature of the T2, you’ll like the T3. It drops the treble and the bass response seems more apparent and fuller given the lower treble response. In general, they sound similar enough except for the lower treble, which is now controlled by a BA and not the DD.

It’s still a brighter IEM, but not as bright as the T2 Pro.

Some sibilance in “Teardrop” and Liz Fraser vocals in the massive attack song. Bass sounds much better than T2/Pro.

“Unfinished Symphony” - the intro hits hard now with better rumble.

“You and Tequila” - Kenny Chesney’s voice sounds really nice. More fuller than previous iterations. Guitars sound slightly harsh but doesnt bother me too much. (see CL2 for what bothers me)

“Miles Away” - Krysta Nicks - strings sound nice and detailed. Voice is a little harsh and a tad sibilant.

“Pearl Lakes” - U137 - Sounds good to me. No vocals, so no sibilance/harsh vocal issues. Fuller sound than previous.

Ok that’s my real-time ramblings for now.

In case you're interested I have this cable coming in the mail: https://www.amazon.com/Balanced-Yinyoo-Upgraded-Headphone-Connector/dp/B07GWFR23F/ref=sr_1_14?keywords=2.5mm+mmcx&qid=1556995504&s=gateway&sr=8-14

I no longer have a need for it and would be willing to sell it to you for $25 US shipped once I get it if you're interested. I use the 4.5 mm equivalent and it's a great cable.

I am a complete newbie when talking about headphones.

This are my current headphones. My father bought it in Germany this year.

I take them everywhere because I hear a lot of podcasts all the time and a lot of music also. Although I feel like they are kinda fragile not being made of metal.

Do you think Grado would make a good upgrade?

u/SmoothDistortion · 1 pointr/Headphoneporn

Westone makes good cases. Don't be too picky as long as it's hard. I like an aluminium watch case for some IEMs. It's got a soft rubber on the inside. Felt a little scratchy the first 20-30 time screwing it on. Feels smooth now though.

Big upgrade from my old KZ ES4 so I am very happy. Supposedly there is a lighter cable on the purple set, more copper color than brown. Had I known, I might have gone purple. Went Amazon due to lack of patience.
