You're welcome.
>Did you take any antivirals for your first outbreak? I'm really hoping the acyclovir will help and that this outbreak won't last that long. Fingers crossed!
No I did not. I saw a doctor and he did not suggest any. My doctor said, you have HSV and every once in a while when you're body is under stress a blister can show up. But you don't need medication. If this occurs frequently like every month then we could consider. So no antivirals for me. Apply an ointment if possible.
Basic Organics L-Lysine Lip Ointment, 0.875 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GG0WOC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_4Qigzb5RM8030
I own this and it works for me. Usually open blisters fade in 2 days after applying. Another 2 days and you can only see a small spot left. One week and nothing is visible. Btw, I'm a dude.
>Just wondering, did you start on suppressive treatment after your initial outbreak? Additionally, how many further outbreaks do you usually get per year? Sorry for all these questions, but it really does feel reassuring to talk to someone who has been through it.
Don't worry about the questions. I'm glad you're looking at objectively. I hope my answers give you some assurance and help you manage this challenge.
To answer your question, No, I did not start suppressive therapy like until 2015. And honestlyI did not need to. But nothing wrong if you did it. I would say that is good management. Also, I self medicated my suppressive therapy and it has worked . So if you consulted your doctor with regards to this, Kudos you're doing better than a lot of people out there. I use this :
Quantum Super Lysine, 180 Tabs, 1 Bottle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CMZB4U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fZigzbBQ6J4VF
>I actually have no idea how anyone has the ability to do that during an outbreak. The sores sting like a bitch.
I know it hurts. But usually restrain yourself a couple of days after a breakout . Otherwise it's food. Have a good day. Tc
I am going to tell you now, I am still sore but no where near as sore. I can pee again with almost complete ease; it still nips. I can sit down for the first time but I am still sore; again no where near as sore. Keep using the lidocaine, put a couple of teaspoons of salt into a bath and sit in it for as long as you need and as many times a day as you need.
Also take Acyclovir tablets(I'm on 400mg, 3x per day for 10 days) from your doctor and try 'Derma E Tea Tree and Vitamin E Relief Cream (Derma E Tea Tree and Vitamin E... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00NIOKABO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). I found that it has been healing up the sores very quickly. Taking paracetamol along with ibuprofen will help too! (Just be careful on your intake for each day)
This has been my routine for the past few days and they are healing slowly. I was in the depths of the outbreak when I was diagnosed, hence why it's taking me longer to heal.
When it comes to peeing, to ease it, pee in the bath of shower with water running on to the sores as you do and it removes almost all of the pain. (Sounds disgusting but it HELPS)
Emotionally, I've became slightly more balanced - I still get upset as hell but I realised that stress isn't helping it. I told my mum and 3 female friends that I am closest too. I referred to it as a 'cold sore down there' and that it's a skin virus which made it easier to explain and for them to understand.
I know exactly how you feel right now and I scowered the internet for days on end trying to find advice on relief so I hope everything I have given you help because I know the position you're in. There are also Herpes Support Groups on Facebook which do provide emotional comfort; it's insane how many people actually have the virus. The groups are private and none of your friends can see that you're in the group or what you post/comment in it.
The virus feeds on a low immune system too so look at vitamins to boost your immune system to take as well. I've started taking Aloe Vera tablets; I'm not sure if they'll help clear the outbreak but anything is worth a shot, eh?
I'm thinking about you and I hope you heal up soon. It's most definitely not the end of the world x
Specifically Manuka honey is what I used topically.
Kiva Raw Manuka Honey, Certified UMF 20+ (MGO 850+) - New Zealand (8.8 oz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015P0U3JM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gNECDbQZKTA62
I know it’s expensive but my friend who got it in NZ swears by this stuff and even though my OB was much more mild than hers, it was still well worth it in my opinion. It was soothing and helps it heal.
So I have HSV1 and ordered this L/lysine ointment from amazon and it is a god send. The one primary outbreak I had input it on there and I swear I think that sped up the healing more than the Valtrex. Also super good for dry skin :)

I highly recommend
I just take the regular lysine powder and mix it in some water. 2 scoops. I just looked up super lysine though and it looks pretty good. 1500 mg a day is more than I'm taking though. I'm taking about 800-1000 mg and it's been very effective.

I buy mine on amazon. It’s a 6 pack of any flavor you want but I’d try the assorted to see which one your partner likes best.

These are the ones I take
Host Defense - Reishi Mushroom Capsules, Naturally Supports a Healthy Heart and Cardiovascular System, Energy, Stamina, and Stress Response, Non-GMO, Vegan, Organic, 30 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DGDT7ES
Personally, I really like this product. It's a combo of a few of the supplements you mention. I've always had a shitty immune system - like 6+ colds (very few didn't turn sinus infection, bronchitis, strep)... annually.
When I read that Lysine was an amino acid that helped boost your immune system in general and could possibly help herpes (not proven), I figured why not? I have been on it for 16 months now and I've had only ONE cold since then. I added a zinc supplement 3-4 months ago for other purposes.

Also I highly recommend my daily regimen at keeping breakouts away: daily CBD oil caps (15mg, Charlotte's Web); daily 1000mg Lysine; Urban ReLeaf Lemon balm for breakouts. I have tried oregano oil but found that it is way too potent for my sensitive bits. Urban ReLeaf Lemon Balm is awesome.
I use Zinc sulfate topical cream and it is AWESOME

They're 1-calorie hydration tablets for running. If you're low on water, they really help. https://www.amazon.com/Nuun-Hydration-Electrolyte-Essential-Electrolytes/dp/B019GU4ILQ
Change your locks, call a locksmith today. Or, DIY. I don't know how good you are with tools.
Hmm. Well the only advice I can give, outside of another doctors apt for a second opinion, is what's worked for me for reoccurring bv. I started taking 800 mcg Folic Acid and a probiotic vaginal supplement.
The probiotic can be found at Walgreens and other such places. There are also vaginal probiotics that require refrigeration which also work. I stopped with this eventually because I can't get it where I currently live but kept up with the folic acid and still haven't had an issue since.
uh anywhere. https://www.amazon.com/Best-Naturals-Lysine-Strength-Tablets/dp/B00HZO3MV8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=lysine+pills&qid=1558639714&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1
It is discussed in this book, which I purchased (chapter 2, last page - page 30): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1572246189/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Assuming that : (a) your partner knows you have genital HSV2; and (b) you don't have sex during outbreaks...
Then the transmission rates, PER YEAR, are as follows:
For male to female transmission rates per year:
Without antivirals and w/o condoms approximately 10% chance of transmission per year
With daily antivirals (particularly valtrex) OR condoms approximately 5% chance of transmission per year
With daily antivirals AND regular condom use approximately 2.5% chance of transmission per year
For female to male transmission rates per year:
Without antivirals and w/o condoms, approximately 4% chance of transmission per year.
With daily antivirals OR condoms, the risk of transmission in this scenario would likely be reduced by 50% (as for female-to-male), so there would an approximate 2% transmission risk per year.
With daily antivirals OR regular condom use, the risk of transmission would again be reduced likely by 50% down to an approximate 1% chance of transmission per year.
Source: Terri Warren's book on herpes pgs. 35 - 38. Terri states here the risk of transmission from female to male is 4% assuming (a) there has been disclosure of herpes status to your partner and (b) no sex during outbreaks.
HOWEVER, in the above cited pages, Terri mainly discusses the % risk of transmission from male to female. My numbers above for female to male transmission are approximations based on the math that Terri employs in this section of her book when she discusses the risk of transmission for male to female couples. Therefore the actual risk of transmission from female to male may, in practice, fluctuate somewhere between 1-3% if regular condoms, daily antivirals, or some combination of both are used.
If this is confusing to anyone (I can't seem to write this out with sounding verbose), feel free to ask questions.
Edit: to change “genital herpes” to “HSV 2”
