Hmm this is an interesting question, because I actually really like Alton Brown for learning "how" to cook something more than a specific recipe. With that said, I still do his Banana Pudding whenever I bring a dessert to a gathering. Making the vanilla wafers is what seals the deal, although the pudding recipe is also great and good to have for any kind of pudding you'd want to make.

I also like both his stovetop and baked versions of Mac&Cheese: Stovetop and Baked

His book I'm just here for the food is one of the books I keep on my shelf. It's a great starter pack for someone interested in learning how to cook and get familiar in a kitchen. Each chapter is dedicated to a style of cooking (braising, frying, etc) with some recipes mixed in.

I got a pair of headphones I've actually been wanting otherwise for 20% off, I wouldn't write the whole thing off completely

E: Here they are, for the curious

E2: shit, looks like we cleared them out, my bad dudes/ dudettes seeing this in the future!

E3: or theyre cheaper now for some reason... someone grab them for $112 with prime quick!

E4: holy jesus, they keep changing price but right now its at $126, and you save 20% off that if you sign up for prime right now. When i bought them last night i got them for $150 total, and that was a pretty sweet deal. These headphones could definitely be one of the few highlights from this sale, i've only been hearing amazing things!

people will have their problems with these but they are good additions or jumping off points for further research.

A People's History of the World

A People's History of the US - I don't remember if this book talks about Latin American relations specifically but it would be hard to tell this story without at least talking about it tangentially.

(i thought there was one for latin america but I'm not finding one in that series but if there is one, pick that up)

and of course pretty much anything by Chomsky, especially:

Manufacturing Consent

Caution: this is not only a long book but a DENSE one as well. Noam is not known as a storyteller. This book is no different. Every sentence is packed with gravity. It's looking specifically at the media's relationship with the US's relationship with Latin America but that's a good lens to go at that field of study.

In most of his work he focuses a lot on the Monroe Doctrine and its aftermath so you can pick up almost any of his work and you'll get some of it. Especially the earlier stuff.

> You are aware that the book you're citing, Fertility: Assessment and Treatment for People with Fertility Problems, is literally about reproductive problems that may limit one's chances of reproducing( fertility problems), right?

You're aware that the statistic I was quoting referred to couples without fertility problems, right?

> its findings are inapplicable to my comments that couples without any reproductive problems shouldn't be surprised with pregnancy if they don't prevent it by using various forms of birth control

What you actually said was, regarding pregnacy, "the success rate is close to 100% in the absence of reproductive complications on either party". This is false. You then went on to say "Even if it is not planned, having intercourse without birth control when the two people involved have no health problems that could jeopardize the process can only lead to pregnancy". This is also false.

I gave you a chance to back up but you decided to dig your heels in and embarrass yourself further. Before you reply again, I recommend you educate yourself about basic biology. You can start by ordering this book and making sure you understand it. Happy reading!

If you really are interested there is a follow up book about it. I believe the books are still considered cannon. It has mixed reviews on Amazon but its a decent read, not the best Trek novel but certainly not the worst.

Here's the full movie this is from. Just found and watched it after seeing this part. It's pretty excellent.

u/badmonkey0001 · 2 pointsr/HighQualityGifs

It may be almost 50, but was filmed in 35mm and even has a blue ray release. I can understand the issues about not having AE, but you didn't need to scale it up so far if at all. Please don't confuse "high quality" and "high definition". Our minimum resolution here is 400x300 to accommodate exactly these types of situations. This is a lesson we've all been through here and had to learn.

To be honest, I am tempted to remove the post because the quality has been compromised so much. Instead, I've opted for giving you some advice. Be aware that that decision only applies to me. Another mod may come along and deem it unacceptable.

There are better models by the same company. I would get this model for a non-electric version:

At CostCo - Elite 3

At Amazon

Source: Employee for the company that OP linked

Editted to add:

I forgot to answer your questions:

It runs on your water pressure at home, so if you have strong water pressure at home, you will get a strong wash. I do not have strong water pressure at home, so I have to turn it to full blast (which is more than enough).

It is $30 with a 1 year warranty. You kind of get what you paid for, you can get other models for $700 that have all the bells and whistles that will have a 3 year full warranty, but for something this cheap, anything more than a year is gravy.

It is extremely easy to install. Turn off water at the shut off valve underneath the toilet. Unscrew your existing toilet seat. Unscrew pipe from shut off valve to toilet. Install supplied t-valve at underneath tank (if you don't have access to the tank, a t-valve for the shut off valve can be supplied). Install bidet underneath toilet seat. Re-install hoses. Turn on water. Check for leaks.

Exactly, unless there is some sort of on-board switch, parasitic draw will kill the best of Lithium batteries today, much less 12 years ago.

I can do the math, but a good starting place for everyone is Watt-hours and Radio receiver current draw in standby.

EDIT: Maths times!!!!!

Smallest commercial Transmitter/Receiver with specifications I could find.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077ZQMQDZ/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1

Assuming hours of operation = (24 hours/day) x (365 days) x (12 years) = 105120 hours

Assuming 12 Volt battery

Assuming 5mA (0.005 Amps) of "quiet" radio operation

(105120 hours) x (0.005 Amp) = (525.6 Amp-hours) x (12VDC) = 6307.6 Watt-hours

The link below are traditional hobby Lithium-Polymer batteries. 3S means 3 LiPo batteries in series. (~3.7VDC/battery) x 3 = nominal 11.1VDC. At 5000mAh (5Amp-hours) per pack, we would need about 100 packs.

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-5000mah-3s-20c-lipo-pack-xt-90.html

And mind you, this is without any reserve battery power left in batteries after 12 years. We still need to have enough juice to have the receiver be functional and run the motor(s) to move/shred the painting

Overall, the Maths says bulllllllllllsheeeeeeeet. Again, there is a switch installed somewhere or the frame was swapped out.

If you haven't read the new one they published posthumously, I would highly recommend it. One of my favorites. I read the whole thing in one sitting it was so good. Dragon Teeth

>a $1800 iMac is a 5K screen with a shitty laptop strapped to it, when a $1800 PC is a high end gaming PC or a workstation.

[The thing is, that 5k display is about $1,600 by itself]
(http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-UP2715K-27-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00OKSFXZU) so the internals are pretty much free. Now if you bought the actual display then you'd have to compare the imac to a sub $200 pc where you're you're not going to be able to match its specs or form factor. About the only mac 'not worth it's price' is the mac mini, which you can get much better parts for the price at the trade off of the form factor of the mini, which is tiny in comparison to about any pc you could build.

Do yourself a favor and pick up 2 packs of these and wrap at least one around every wire you have. You'll thank yourself later.

Big Trouble in Little China, currently on Netflix and Amazon Prime, plus for rental on pretty much every other service.

It's one of the films that influenced the creation of Mortal Kombat. It's got cheesy action, bad Chinese mysticism, and a boatload of humor. It sounds like it should suck, but it's just so self-aware of what it is that it pulls it off. One of my all-time favorite movies.

u/SpaissOwl · 3 pointsr/HighQualityGifs

We've only been able to convert one person in our immediate circle of friends. And the guy's wife won't even use it. My mother screamed when she tried it at my house, which was at least entertaining... ;)

This is the one we have. Luxe Bidet Attachment on Amazon

Well, it is a minnow seine and that is what it looks like they caught.

u/xdanish · 4 pointsr/HighQualityGifs

No backup? How dead is the drive, it could be recoverable (or at least some of the data)

I'd suggest getting this SATA to USB 3.0 adapter and pick up/buy/torrent Wondershare Data Recovery

Best of luck, I'll miss your terrific gifs in the interim

u/Travels4Work · 119 pointsr/HighQualityGifs

If you can turn a wrench and tape some threads, a bidet will change your life. Never again will you make a thousand smearing wipes that still result in skidmarks. You just pat dry and walk away clean.

The only problem is that you'll never want to poop away from home again.
