Definitely, I agree about Duolingo. I've done some of it but I know someone who completed the entirety of the course. It doesn't go beyond anything you mentioned. If you want to learn kana, it'll do the trick. Couple of key words, sure. Even the last level uses basic grammar and sometimes isn't fact checked properly. Duolingo's Spanish class on the other hand offers more, and is better supported. It's free, so I'm not against it, but definitely isn't as efficient as other sources.

If you want to learn kanji, there are two major lists out there. The Jouyou kanji and the JLPT kanji. The first covers about the same characters as the second, but the order is widely different. Following the kyouiku kanji list (All lists are readily found online or through Wikipedia) will give you the first 6 grade levels of kanji, and bring you to about half of the jouyou (General use kanji). I recommend following both as the JLPT racks up difficulty much faster and grows exponentially with each level, whereas the other maxes out at 180-200 characters per year. Alternating will add more steps to the ladder, and give you a much clearer set of goals.

I purchased a book containing the general use kanji, and I now use it to cross-reference the JLPT required kanji as well. If you follow both lists to completion, you might end up knowing an extra 100 characters, but for the most part they're about the same, and each cap at around 2100-2200 characters, at which point one would be fluent to a business level or more.

This is the book, ~20USD on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-Japanese-Kanji-Understanding/dp/4805311703

Kanji is probably the most difficult thing to get good at, but its resources are the easiest to find. You won't need to spend much. A bunch of websites also teach the stroke order, so if ever you are stuck, searching the kanji itself will grant you a lot of good results. Verbs are few, and exceptions are only found in two of them, but grammar and some odd adverb uses might be really difficult to pick up on without using books, so I would recommend eventually complementing your studies with some. The Minna no Nihongo book series is also very good, but is fully in Japanese. If you can read kana you should be able to get the ball rolling there. I heard very good reviews. I also believe its price point is in-between the two other book series I mentioned before.

For now, a Google search or following lists on Wikipedia will do you pretty much just as good as any book for kanji. Very easy to have tabbed on a phone as well. I like Tanoshii Japanese's stroke order pages and I've started looking through Japanesetest4you's grammar examples for more out there stuff.

Hope this helps!! :)

> If there is literature/links/methods that you find especially effective (particularly for a newbie with 0 experience) I would be grateful. %)

Michael Hampton is my favourite anatomy artist

All of Andrew Loomis's books are available at that link, they are completely invaluable - I particularly recommend "fun with a pencil" for newbies

learn to paint with Reilly's Papers absolutely invaluable for digital painting.

Posemaniacs is my favourite site for practicing gesture drawing and poses, the pose timer is fantastic.

James Gurney is the king of imaginative realism, follow his blog and buy his books they will serve you very well.

linesandcolours is a wonderful art blog

Most importantly - read and keep a record of artists you enjoy, don't be afraid to try out their styles and techniques and copy your favourite paintings - "mastercopying" is a legitimate technique for learning how to improve your own work - as they say "all art is theft".

And the best advice I can give you - have fun with what you do. Keep multiple projects on the go, big and small. If you aren't in the mood to do a big painting, make something shitty and hilarious in MS paint. Find someone to art-trade with (hell, I'll art trade with you anytime - I'm always looking for people to collab and share with). Don't be scared to make absolute crap because being loose and free with your work at any level of complexity teaches you not be precious and will ultimately make you a more relaxed artist.

Togashi does redraw on the volumes, but you didn't negate what I said infact you further expanded upon what I said. His art develops over time (over all these years.) When Togashi publishes a volume he's had those serialized already in Shonen Jump for quite a while and for years. Here's one exmaple: volume 33 didn't get released in Japan until last June and those chapters came out years ago, except for 350 which came out this year but the other chapters came out years ago. But regardless, it still doesn't matter that chapter 350 came out this year why? Because he might retouch on the volumes if needed. So regardless, it still is how his art of now which has changed compared to the last time he was doing anything with hunter x hunter chapters. This has been happening for a long while. And you have to understand that Thunder.

As for Pitou on how she looks, my point still stands. Togashi changed Pitou's character design over all the years. Here is her older character design. And black orbs don't matter, its not like it had anything quintessential to the overall plot, arc and grand scheme of things. Its just the design Togashi went with back in the days. Here's on a simple volume cover:
https://www.amazon.com/Hunter-x-Vol-23/dp/1421517906

Yes Pitou does have character traits of a motherly figure but... but many times throughout the series she's referred to as male not female. Just like the same thing with Alluka and Kalluto. Also, in Togashi's other series Yu Yu Hakusho he's done this with Miyuki and as well as Togashi's other series Level E he does it too. And in a lot of panels from the manga her body is shown a lot of times to be male. Like sometimes to have no breast and etc. Her breast started to show when Pitou started to undergo a new look like the same look in the later phase of the Chimera ant arc. And just like other characters looks might have subtle or drastic changes and doesn't evolve into different character designs but instead its abruptly changed because again the Togashi has and when he produces chapters. The others characters get different looks throughout the series as well, subtle or drastic it's obvious again because when he produces chapters are far apart from the other chapters. Again your just furthering my point. Again, Alluka and Kalluto look like females but are male and as well Miyuki from yyh. I mean if you don't believe me, just search it up for yourself.

Well the belt, hat, scarf, and tunic thing were all hand sewn. Underneath I'm just wearing a long sleeve baggy white shirt, and baggy white pants. Specifically these pants, but in white. The boots I just had. It was a pretty easy cosplay to do, you should totally do it!

lol. Togashi takes detours off the Royal Road of Manga.

For anyone interested in what that means, it's Araki's philosophy.

It's a great read.

As you mentioned in your edit, you can purchase back issues of WSJ (12 issues back). But you can get older back issues from amazon and comiXology. Here's the issue with chapter 361 on amazon and on comiXology. That's the first chapter for volume 35, which comes out in March.

I don't believe there's any official way to only buy the HxH chapters.

FYI, when HxH returns to WSJ, I think it works best to purchase a monthly subscription.

Apparently these are the best you'll find. Under the Q&A section someone details the metals used. What sucks is that about 2 years ago these were on Amazon for less than $20. It might be a good thing if they started using quality metals. I really don't know for sure though.

I'm in UK too and got mine from this seller on amazon marketplace, just under £30 each with free delivery from Japan which is about as cheap as you'll find for UK. It looks like they don't have them in stock on that link but you could try messaging them.

Edit: they do still carry Gon but the price has gone up a bit.

They're all linking to pirate sites, so I'll give you the legal option. The release far predates the massive popularity, though, they released them in 2009, so you'll have to search.

I'm pretty sure that chapter 340 is the only chapter published in English which is considered as a post anime chapter (last chapter of volume 32). The rest of volume 32 is part of the last episodes of the last arc in the anime (2011).

Volume 33 (chapter 341 to 350.) should be available March 7, 2017 in English. And the last chapters 351. to 360. will probably not be published for some time, but everything is online.
