tl;dr: Drivers put up with high sustained heart rates due to massive sustained mental and physical stress. Dr Olvey's book has some clear metrics (o2 intake, HR, G forces) comparing them to other sports. I can pick them out of the book when I get home.

You can get growler/crowler/bullet fills as well as cans at most breweries, but better to stock up on Saturday. You can not bring glass containers into IMS. I am taking two of these with sippy lids (remove the straw) along with a few frozen bottles of water in my backpack cooler.

Pretty sure that Coyne slot (nyuck-nyuck) will be filled for the 500.

This is the one I use. I love it. So much so that a bought a second one a couple years ago for my brother to use when he went to the 500 with me.

This is the one I have. It's great, has plenty of dry storage for my radio, binoculars, etc and plenty of cooler space for my food and beverages. It is within the 500 allowable dimensions.

If you're curious about the early years of Penske, a driver named Mark Donohue was central to the operation in its early years and he quite literally wrote the book on autoracing.

The Unfair Advantage. It's not quite like Senna's book, which is actually a great textbook on how to drive a car, but it's a really good view on how Team Penske started and the principles it follows to this day.

I know everyone hates Penske, but there's a reason they do so well beyond having lots of money. They know how to properly spend it and how to work well too.

There is one already. It actually covers the first one as well. I wish more people would read it.

Only $10 for the e-book.

Not as fancy, but nice for the 5.1 experience.

From my experience going to the Indy several years ago, grandstands are not covered. As others have stated, a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, and seat cushion are all recommended. If you can get one of those seat cushions with a back on it, all the better.

I'm a PS4 fanboy, but I'm not sure I'd recommend buying a console strictly for one simulator. Now, if there are PS4 exclusives you're looking to play (Bloodborne/Uncharted/HorizonZD/etc) then sure, but not just for GT.

I'll probably be grabbing this wheel or similar and try to find an affordable stand (around $150) from www.wheelstandpro.com.

I'm not a fan of the dedicated scanner headphones. I wear glasses so they're really uncomfortable and don't make a good seal to block sound. They also sound terrible, so you're stuck with a $70 pair of headphones that aren't good for anything else.

Consider getting a good pair of in ear monitors. I wear these. They are really comfortable, block a good deal of sound, and they double as great sounding earbuds that you can use every day for music.

Blood and Smoke makes a pretty good argument that Harroun didn't actually win at all.

Yes it’s based on Dr. Olvey’s. In fact we’ve worked close with the publisher on issuing a new hardcover edition with a new chapter and a new afterword by Dario Franchitti. It will be released this month in the USA.
