This is the first book from the early 80's, and it's great, but I think the Horned God above might be the best book overall. Bisley was (is?) a very noteworthy artist and that one has been reprinted several times. It's easily among the best of the whole genre.

If you have the budget, you may want to start with this first one since it gives a lot of background story, which is helpful since the other book is pretty involved and can be a bit overwhelming. Enjoy.

There are probably @ 12+ books in total, and some of the earlier ones are out of print and quite rare.

A couple books I can give off the top of my head that I have would be

  1. The Complete Guide to Prehistoric Life by Tim Haines, it's basically a field guide to all of the prehistoric life in the BBC dinosaur shows

  2. A Field Guide to Dinosaurs: The Essential Handbook for Travelers in the Mesozoic by Henry Gee with illustrations by Luis V. Rey is one of my personal favorites and is a really cool field guide with great drawings and a really updated assortment of dinosaurs. Big recommendation on this one!

  3. Dinosaurs: The Most Complete, Up-to-Date Encyclopedia for Dinosaur Lovers of All Ages by Dr. Thomas R. Holtz Jr. and more illustrations by Luis V. Rey (easily one of the best dino artists ever) is also sick and worth the mention just as much

    Also

  4. [Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs : The Definitive Pop-Up] (https://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Prehistorica-Dinosaurs-Definitive-Pop-Up/dp/0763622281/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8) and Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Sharks and Other Sea Monsters are the best pop up books I've ever read and are so multi-layered, colorful and impressively informative, the perfect ting for a coffee table book to show people

I just realized you didn't really ask for dinosaur books but more future animals field guides, not really sure why I did that lmaoo still check those out

Here's the first book on Amazon, it has the rest of them on there too. I'm sure you can just pick them up at the library, but Amazon does a good job of giving you a preview and some reviews and stuff.

The only problem I have with the series is the cover art on the first couple books. They don't resemble characters in the book at all. Heck, they hardly even resemble scenes in the book!

Other than that, Bluemoonflame got it right. It also happens to be a "rags to riches" story following the main character Tavi.

Although I haven't read Wildlife of Star Wars, I'd recommend Animals Real and Imagined. It's by the same author/artist, Terryl Whitlatch. It's not specifically of futuristic animals, but it is a good collection of drawings and paintings of real animals, imagined realistic animals and stylized characters. There are also some studies of animal anatomy, which I find quite interesting to see. My personal favourite animal from the book is Duncan the pug-o-pus!

Hm, reminds me of the town in The Prince of Milk by exurb1a. Awesome story :-)

Her Tumblr account. She is also responsible for one of my favorite ever comic books Rabbit Head, and also designed Queen Chrysalis in MLP!

This painting was created for Barlowe’s speculative xenobiology work Expedition. For the Amazon page, please click here:

Also, Barlowe's Inferno (for the work that started it all). He also wrote an additional book called God's Demon, fleshing out some more of the world he created with his paintings.

Edit: With Amazon links now!

This is the tablet I'm using. It is kind of like a digital piece of paper that works like a mouse. I was using Corel Painter, but you could use photoshop or any other kind of image making program.

It is not like an iPad, which I suppose they also call tablets. This is an older technology.
