It's hard to quantify. I stay away from old puzzles because the images are not crisp enough. I want the image to be crisp and clear. I've bought a few fine art images (including Kincade Disney) and I now stay away from those because they are not crisp. I like to look at a piece and know where it goes. You can't really do that with paintings because there is often too much blur.

I do like landscapes, but there has to be some feature that draws me to it: I like boats/seashores, colorful cities, and trees (particularly in fall). I have done some collage puzzles but I haven't bought any of those in a long time. Basically, I want the colors to pop and something about the image must speak to me. Though I adore sea life, I have learned to kinda stay away from those kinds of puzzles. Too many of those end up being just blue all over and that's annoying to me.

Artists that I have done multiples of their puzzles:

Ciro Marchetti was the first artist I did and fell in love with. Ceaco has/d a line of his art called Magical World. I love the fantastical and colorful nature of his images. There were a lot of steampunk elements in his work. But after a while of doing his puzzles I started to realize that every single one contained imagery of astrology and tarot cards. I'm not comfortable with that stuff so I stopped buying his puzzles and recycled the ones I had collected. His underwater puzzle called Man of War was the first puzzle I bought that got me started in this hobby again.

The second artist that I just couldn't seem to get away from was Charles Wysocki. Even though his art is not the kind I would ever hang on my wall, I like the crisp lines and Americana feeling to it. By the Sea is probably my favorite of his works. It combines that style of his with subject matter I adore - seaside and a boat. But he also has a lot of good fall images. And the bonus is that every single one of his images features a horse and buggy, so it's like the puzzles are of ME! ;-)

I've done a few of Thomas Kincade's Disney puzzles. I'm not a fan and won't buy any more.

My current favorite artist is Aimee Stewart. The problem is that I think I have every puzzle that's currently in production. She has a line called Life is an Open Book that I adore. It features a world city with quotes and images from that city in a way that is different from any other puzzle out there. Here's Paris so you see what I mean. I've done Paris, London and NYC. But there aren't any other cities on the market. She also does bright work like this that I like both for the colors and subject. I do hidden object puzzles as another hobby and this scene reminds me of something I'd find in one of those games.

The other favorite artist that transcends puzzles for me is Guy Harvey. As I've mentioned, I adore ocean fishing. Ceaco did a few of his images as puzzles that I mostly find on ebay. I've done this one and have this one to do. Because I love his work so much, these are the only puzzles that I plan on gluing. I can see myself hanging these some day.

Doing this review made me realize that most of the puzzles I buy are some kind of drawn art, not photographs. I would have guessed the opposite because my primary hobby is photography.

A few years ago I bought this table. It’s great because I can fold it away, but I LOVE the adjustable height.

I also use a very large — like 3 x 4 foot white board. I got it used from work. What I love about it is that the frame around it prevents puzzle pieces from ending up on the floor. It’s especially great when I have it set up on the kitchen table because I can pick the whole thing up and move it if I need to.

And the last thing I want to say is that I use heavy card stock for some of my sorting. Like... I see most of the pieces for a cluster of flowers or something. I slide the pieces onto the card stock and I can move around in case someone else needs a particular spot. And when I’ve put it together I just slide it off the paper and into the puzzle. It’s worked great for years!

I've done a few eurographics (doing one currently http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00HV7NRBE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01)

They aren't my #1 brand for sure, but they are perfectly fine. Usually a few pieces are squashed and some still stuck together. More dust in the box than other brands as well.

However they are much cheaper and they have a very unique set of images which I love. The ones I have done are random cut which makes for a good challenge.

The piece fit is great, no second guessing.

I got 4 or 5 1000 piece around Christmas for less than 10 bucks each, well worth it.

This was my favorite puzzle when I was a kid :) it's on a shelf somewhere but it's missing ~5-10 pieces.

If you like those, you should check out Sunsout shaped puzzles--I got a frog, it was pretty good quality and they are SUPER cheap (<$15 for a lot of them). Lots of fun options. Looks like they have their own wolf version.

So what I've done for my 121x80cm (3000pc) puzzle is the following (much like u/Excipa):

  1. Flip the puzzle over (time consuming but necessary) I use two pieces of something like foamboard, as rigid as possible, put a small square of the puzzle on one, then sandwich on top and flip it. Put it all together upside down.

  2. Lay down contact paper on the back and roll it out (the stickier paper the better, the puzzle-specific stuff is probably extra sticky), if you get air bubbles that you can get rid of, pierce or slit the paper and roll the bubble down. Trim excess.

  3. Find a stuff backboard, I used corrugated plastic. Cur to size, I used gorilla tape to join pieces. Use a spray glue or double sided tape(lots) to join the back of the contact paper to the sized backing sheet.

  4. Then I cut a frame out of something like this and stained it. (You could get an actual picture framing board) Then used edge protectors to secure the frame pieces together.

  5. I got a piece of acrylic glass to protect the puzzle's front, which is much less expensive, less heavy, and less breakable, than a custom piece of real glass. Not to mention easier to cut to size on my own.

  6. I used gorilla tape to attach the frame and backing board together (probably better ways to do this using actual picture frame hardware). And I used a couple of the big 16lb command strips on the back of the backing board to hang it on the wall.

My first Clementoni puzzle, and I was really impressed. First thing I noticed when I opened the box was there was absolutely no dust. Pieces are extremely sturdy and fit great. And I loved the creepy painting :] Great puzzle!

Who cares what puzzles you do in your own home on your own free time? Do what you enjoy. If anyone wants to judge you because you like animated movies you tell them to go get fucked.

Check out Ceaco's sets on Amazon. There are 3 different 4 puzzle sets. They're great. They also sell them as 750pc single puzzles I've found on Amazon and at Michael's.

Here is the puzzle: Aquarius Harry Potter Marauders Map 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H754OP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3sDKAbJ4QQY8K

Quality was great; pieces fit together very easily and it was clear when they didn’t go together. Nothing missing.

Bummer. I just checked and it’s not the same one but damn close.

I have this one, it works well. I got it on discount. It’s definitely not worth $180.

This was the first one my husband and I did together at the front end of a couple-years-long period of always having a puzzle on the table. It was pretty hard but it's a special memory. "Walking to Town" by Fred Swan [White Mountain].

I finished One Hundred Horses and a Shoe. ([amazon] (http://www.amazon.com/Hundred-Horses-Shoe-Jigsaw-Puzzle/dp/B00D2QFHRK)). My parents came to visit and my dad found the shoe in about 3 seconds.

I would not let him look at my next puzzle in progress - I have not found the egg in One Hundred Dinosaurs and an Egg (amazon) yet. ;) No real progress on that one yet. I got the pieces sorted out and a few edge pieces together, then I rolled it up for a few days (I use felt and a cardboard tube) so I could play Robinson Crusoe (board game that takes up the whole table). I plan to restart work on it later this week.
