Awesome man, it's a lot of fun!

I'd say most important thing equipment-wise when starting out is getting a decent mic. Easiest mic setup (if it's just you or maybe two people) is a USB condenser mic, then you can skip a mixer and/or interface altogether.
Most people are keen on the Blue yeti, but in Australia they're not too widely available, so I got a MXL Tempo instead, which does a good enough job. We still need to build it a little foam booth to remove a lot of the echo and room noise.

For PC recordings, we just use Open Broadcasting Software, aka OBS. I've played around with DxTory, fraps, and raptr in the past; OBS trumps them all because of how much control is possible, plus the ability to record in a constant frame-rate, very important when it comes to editing. OBS is a little fiddly to set-up but has given the best results so far, and there's plenty of information out there on it. It is designed as a streaming software but also produces awesome local recordings.

We just bought an Elgato HD game capture for console recordings, which we chose over the Elgato HD60 because the ability to record older consoles was more desirable to us than 60fps recordings. The Elgatos are pretty much accepted online as the best all-rounder out there. No doubt there's better units out there, but hard to beat for the price and ease-of-use.

Finally, an Adobe creative cloud subscription gives you access to Premiere (for editing), Photoshop (for images/thumbnails), and Audition (for voice recording/compression etc), plus Flash, After effects etc. I'm a student so it was a half-price I think.

We haven't tried any streaming yet because of our woeful <1mbp upload haha. Go Australia!

Do you prefer lower quality digital transfers or do you just lack the hardware for 4k blurays? 4k UHD just means you get a much crispier image with a lot more color accuracy, as well as better sound mixes - for example the standard Blu Ray's do not include the theatrical Dolby Atmos audio master but rather a downgraded 5.1 channel mix. They're still nice, but 4k is just objectively higher quality in every way. I recently watched the original JP in 4k on a 4k tv and was absolutely blown away. Noticed things I'd never seen before, heard things I'd never heard before. And the colors were bursting off the screen. Also watched FK in 4k on a 4k tv with a Dolby Atmos sound bar - the Dolby Atmos mix actually sounded convincingly like the Indoraptor was stomping around on the second floor, directly above my head. Just with a sound bar.

I'm just saying, this isn't really an "if you like 4k blurays better good for you" kind of thing. This is us telling you there's objectively a much better way to watch and hear these films, for your consideration.

Great job, it looks so much better than I'd imagined it! The gate, hardhats, lanyards.... inspired work!

I love the banner, I'm really tempted to order one for my own home! Plus this came up as a suggested purchase and it's a thing of beauty!

She's actually a pretty accomplished artist, she did this one shortly after finishing the movie, so she was just a kid. As far as I'm aware, it's the only JP painting she did.

I got it from her Amazon store, but it was $100 less during Christmas. This is the frame I got for it, which I think looks great. Especially with the metal JP logo nailed to the frame.

  • Dino Crisis 1 & 2. It plays very similar to the original Resident Evil games and is downright awesome. Skip the third game though. The third one takes place in space with alien/dinosaur mutants.

  • Primal Carnage is an okay game but it sort of gets boring after a while.

  • Walking With Dinosaurs is a great television series if you want the documentary angle.

  • Also, check out The Dinosaur Four. It's a pretty good novel. Here's a description: A ticking sound fills the air as Tim MacGregor enters The Daily Edition Café to meet his new girlfriend for coffee. Moments later, the café is transported 67 million years back in time, along with everyone inside.

Time is running out as ten unlikely companions search for a way home, while one member of the group plots to keep them all in the past.

Wanted to let you guys know that someone on Amazon has these posters for $10. They are in mint condition and yes, they are from when the original movie first came out. I bought one and framed it so you could see that it was legit: http://www.amazon.com/Jurassic-Park-Poster-Dwellers/dp/B001O8P728/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1381271723&sr=8-5&keywords=jurassic+park+poster

Looks like he has a couple other posters as well.

EDIT: Looks like you guys went to work on that Amazon link because they're sold out.

CLC Custom Leathercraft Rain Wear... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PD2KZO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I bought the coat off amazon (it’s super cheap, was only like $8) and cut off the bottom since this was a trench coat and not just a jacket.

And then I also got a JP Patch from amazon and my girlfriend sewed it on the coat

Thanks so much! I love seeing all the JP costumes, and this is the first one I've done. (What took me so long?!) My husband went as Dr. Grant. We found this really great hat on Amazon.

Ha, that's cool! Thanks for watching.

This is the version I own, it's from the amazon UK site though: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0090JB6VE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's the most up to date version, 2012. It'll be missing one or two big discoveries from the last couple of years (possibly Yutyrannus the feathered tyrannosaur and definitely the new Spinosaurus stuff) but it'll still be very good.

There will be older versions available cheaper elsewhere as well of course.

Raptor Red is a novel about a female Utahraptor (set in the Cretaceous - sadly she's not hunting humans.) It's very engaging and authored by a palaeontologist who consulted on JPark. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

u/instantpancake · 1 pointr/JurassicPark

Heh, it may look decent, but the mesh is super messy actually. It would require a ton of clean-up I guess.

Edit: Also, the whole thing is only like $23 including shipping on Amazon. :)
