Ah, the sound system. I can help you there!

For your door speakers, these are great money. They will really outperform your factory speakers. Rockford is a tried and true name, you can't go wrong.

If you want another subwoofer, which for most people isn't necessary but if you want a really rounded full range sound it is, you can go with something low power and relatively cheap like this. Again, Rockford is tried and true high quality stuff. Of course, you'll need a dedicated amp for the sub if you go that route.

This one is pretty good. I have one that is a similar model at home. Alpine is a good brand. It is a 2 channel amp, so you will want to bridge the two channels into one. The instructions should tell you how to do that.

And, a box is required for a subwoofer. You can build your own if you like, or you can simply buy one. For a single 10" sub you want a box that is approximately 0.5 cubic feet on the inside. This one is 0.6, which is plenty close enough. This box is sealed, so you will get cleaner sharper lows. You can also go ported if you want louder lows.

And, for a sub and amp, you will also need a dedicated wiring kit. Boom, this one will be perfectly fine for what you're using it for. The power will have to be run through the firewall directly from the battery. The ground will connect to any bare metal inside the truck. I suspect you will need to cut a piece out of the carpet under a seat and use a self drilling screw to connect it. You will also have to run a remote wire from your head unit to tell the amp when to turn on. It should be a solid blue wire, but check your specific head unit to make sure.

If the D1's are like the D2's, your amp should fit nicely under your passengers seat.

Also, it's not necessary, But I recommend going through the trouble of replacing the factory speaker wire. As old as it is it is probably corroded and is also pretty small. [This] is the stuff I use, it works. That's all there really is to say.

As for your factory tweeters in the windshield pillars (did the D1's have those?), they may still work fine. If they don't just pick up a set of these. It's typically best to match your mid range speakers with a matching set of tweeters. It's best to place tweeters in the pillars. Just hook them into the same line with the front speakers.

This will give you a pretty good setup. Exponentially better than stock for sure. Best of luck!

Sure thing. It looks like the company is called Dash Mat and they are relatively cheap on Amazon ($45 + free shipping) - here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0048F79T8/ref=mp_s_a_1_3/143-7733861-9528039?ie=UTF8&qid=1522600344&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=land+rover+lr3+dash+cover&dpPl=1&dpID=21IDImKEwvL&ref=plSrch

Also, here are a few pictures of what the cover looks like on the dash: https://imgur.com/gallery/tAVSj

I’ve read some things where people seem to make fun of them or not like them. To each their own, but I think they look pretty clean and hopefully it will help avoid future cracks.

Yes, the cheapest way to upgrade your headlights is to convert them from the 9005 bulb to the 9011 bulb. The conversion takes about 5 minutes and is super easy with just a nail clipper.

How to install super bright 9011s in place of 9005s.

So, I was doing some research online and it seems that for "weekend warriors" a dedicated track pad might not be the best choice. It says they're pretty stiff and will eat through rotors if you try to daily drive on them.

A few forums just recommend premium brake pads rather than something super expensive.

Here's what I found: TRW TPC1479 Premium Ceramic Front Disc Brake Pad Set and TRW TPC1099 Premium Ceramic Rear Disc Brake Pad Set. I've been wanting to upgrade to ceramics to reduce the brake dust on my wheels, but it seems they'll be pretty good for the occasional track use, too.

Any thoughts on these?

Check that out. It is a jackstand + a bottle jack. Most bottle jacks have just a knurled nub to lift on - very dicey. This is a jack stand for added safety (does NOT negate the need for real jack stands!) but also has a nice curved lift head to get a good seat on axle/frame. Be safe, rover on.

Doesn't necessarily come with the receiving hitch and those are like $400.

The brake controller wiring harness is pretty easy to install. I got mine here and there's a video for the install: http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/YWJ500170ABP

Get a Tekonsha brake controller from Amazon and this wiring harness: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001NZQIDE/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Finally, you need to get the Rover programmed to have a trailer. That was like $100 from a local Rover mechanic.

The tow package is really just finding a tow hitch assembly like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Land-Rover-Receiver-LR040248/dp/B01417UHEQ (you can find them used on facebook, ebay, craigslist, etc.

And then getting the towing wiring harness from Atlantic British.

A lot of the "unreliable" perception Land Rovers currently have is still residual from back when they were fairly unreliable. Now, all the electronics and a lot of the parts are outsourced to companies like Bosch, Timken, etc., who make parts for lots of brands. So at this point, a Land Rover is just a "car."

That, the "unreliable" part comes from people who buy a clapped out high-mileage Land Rover that wasn't properly maintained an expect it to be problem free, and not have the maintenance schedule commensurate with a $70k luxury vehicle. If you are not handy with a wrench, a good independent mechanic is great, too. The lower control arm swap would have been about $1,700 at my dealer, but I got it done at my indy for about $700 (it's not impossible to do that job at home, but, for that price, I was happy to have a mechanic do it.)

Personally, I wouldn't waste the money for an off-road vehicle.
But my Dad uses this stuff on his 1972 Grand Prix show / drag car and it's pretty incredible. Spray it on, walk away. Makes all the brown shit disappear pretty much permanently.
Just make sure it dries ALL THE WAY before driving anywhere, and don't apply it on your nice clean driveway, it'll stain the concrete.

Can't remember which forum it was, but a few days ago i stumbled upon a post where people where hyping this Autel model scanner that reads most makes, including Rover (obdii/can and ABS) at a really good price. I'm new to my '01 D2 (it's my late father's) and am just trying to diagnose the three amigos.

Everyone in the thread seemed genuinely surprised that such a reader was selling for that price so I went ahead and bought it. Got here yesterday and it's already confirmed a shuttle valve electrical fault.

I'm a novice but I feel like it was a good purchase.

Alternatively if your Disco still has an original deck, ION makes a wireless Bluetooth Tape Adapter. It has a rechargeable battery that lasts about 4 hours. Sound quality is very good for $20.

I contemplated doing some modification to the sound system to rig up an Aux or Bluetooth connection but I've got enough electrical issues to deal with with out cutting wires! Looks like you know what you're doing though - nicely done.

I see the roof top tent and think it could be complimented with an awning for the ground level. I think something like this would be cool on that thing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071QZ6KJX/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B071QZ6KJX&pd_rd_wg=dUA5n&pd_rd_r=1N303K9051FJAK8TMKPQ&pd_rd_w=3rnQy

Used https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Two-Step-Headlight-Restoration/dp/B01M75GUJB . Was super easy and there is enough in the kit to do another 2 full cars.

Buy a bottle of this stuff. I usually don't buy into these kind of products but it works...I actually just fixed a super leaky box on one of the Defenders in my shop last week with it. It's an additive that causes the seals to swell up slightly..the output seal is typically the culprit so this could solve it.

Pro tip... try a bluetooth to FM transmitter. I had one a while ago, and they are very convenient. The one below isn't the one I have experience with... just a generic one that popped up on amazon when I searched for it.

I ripped out my jump seats. Can't imagine in a million years ever using them. That area holds my tire chains and tool box well.

The 3 amigos can be as easy as greasing the brake pads or as difficult as replacing the wheel speed sensors. I run mine with 3 amigos on. Planning on getting an autel scan tool to clear mine.

As long as the head gaskets were done right. Heads should have been milled or replaced. Water pump, hoses, and fan clutch should have been replaced. Original problem that caused gasket to blow should be diagnosed. Otherwise, you could be redoing that job entirely in a couple months.

Any recent drivetrain work? Fluids exchanged?

Does it ride rough like the suspension is bottomed out?

If your a DIY type look into the icarsoft scanner. https://www.amazon.com/iCarsoft-i930-Vehicle-Diagnostic-Multi-System/dp/B00S5AB54W It will scan and clear suspension faults. Finding the exact code is the best way to start diagnosing the source of your issue.

Two Optima red tops, connected with something like this (http://www.amazon.com/WARN-36494-Isolator-Connector-Kit/dp/B000BQN0N2) is more than enough to run my ARB fridge for an extended period of time. Believe me, you want a refrigerator. Never looking back.

Don't waste your money on an Amigo! It only has that one function. For less than the price of an Amigo you can get this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091DJWV0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A lot of us Rover guys has have bought it, it'll do OBD2 plus ABS & SRS for the Rovers.

u/TrouserPudding · 1 pointr/LandRover

>foremostly a ticking noise coming from the upper part of the block

Just drive it. It's a Rover V8 and there's nothing to be done. If it's a liner you'll find out soon enough. But it's probably just standard valve train noise.

>the SRS light is on.

You can guess, or you can have the truck tell you what is wrong. For that, you need more than a standard OBDII scanner.

This one will do the job.

It also reads ABS codes on D2s. It's a gigantic pain in the ass to update (you need a windows computer, micro SD card reader and several hours of patience) but it works. And it's by far the least expensive reader I've found that can handle SRS and ABS codes on D2s (and most other vehicles for that matter).

>the right side front passenger window sometimes gets stuck

The regulators are garbage. Pull the door card and see how bad it is. Fortunately they are cheap and easy to replace once you've done the first couple.

>when the second I raise the speed above 3, it makes a loud vibrating noise.

There is shit stuck in the squirrel cage fan. Remove it and clean it out. It's below the glove box.
