Something like this is your best bet.

If your not good with soldering you can use something like this.

Dont worry if the label on the connector is wrong, copper is copper.

I get my Led strips from alitove on amazon. They sell different pixel density.

Any 5v power supply(once again alitove) will be sufficient, I recommend a 10a one. You can use it to run your RPI and your leds. The hdmi switcher and hdmi to rca can run off your tv power if your tv has usb plugs.

8FT long T8 bulbs are available from websites like 1000bulbs but are quite expensive.

A good alternative are linkable "Shop Lights" that incorporate LEDs inside a metal housing with some sort of lens. The good thing about these fixtures is that they are plug and play and typically easy to install. The downside is that you can't simply replace the led inside if it malfunctions, usually you will have to buy a new unit to replace the one that goes bad. Although it can happen usually these fixtures are tested and work pretty well for 5+ years with no troubles.

Thanks for the reply. I found a few sets on amazon that advertise 100h+ on a single charge: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R8SJZGM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_n3KDDbZVJ8B6S

Am I reading that right? Sounds too good to be true

It looks like this is the light in question. They make a "yellow" light for the same hood, which seems like it would be more to your liking. Check it out. From the picture, it looks like you can just remove the set screws and swap the new lights in with the quick connect cables.

As always, even with low voltage, I recommend turning the power off at the breaker before you touch anything.

Thanks for the update!

> We're developing our own ZigBee 3.0 controller now to work with Hue

Cool - when do you think that will be available?

>though the Duv correction is built in

Built in to the new controller you're developing (not the strip itself)?

If I were to control it with something like this in the meantime: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FTD9H7T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Aw2sDbMPXT765

Would it do the Duv correction that you described?

Does each section of the strip have to change color individually? Or can the whole strip change together?

If yes to the first question, follow what /u/UrFavSoundTech says.

Otherwise, for a much cheaper solution, you can buy plain 4 pin RGB strips ($10/16 ft), and a RGB DMX dimmer ($20). You can cut the strips up; there is a cut point every ~3 inches.

Make sure you get a good 12V power supply. This is a long strip. You'll need at least 15A. If it gets dimmer towards one end you can bring power cables to the other end.

I love these switch bulbs... they're out of production now, but they're damn bright for A19s. 1100, but well-delivered. They've got a good heat distribution system that lets them overdrive the LEDs a bit. Not exactly what you're looking for, but a potential alternative.

Well yes, solar is big in campers, etc. You can get many types (like the one you linked) that have a seperate solar panel, so you can wire the light inside.
You can also get a stand alone battery/batterypack, solar panel, and LED lights. it's very easy, and there are tons of places online that you can check out for simple solar systems.

ie:

Solar panel (say, 20w), small 12v lead acid battery (like 10Ah), a charge controller ( or equiv. for the UK ), and then some 12v lights

I think it may be the positioning of your lights more than anything. Your screen is right in front of you and, when set to be all white, is hitting you with white light from above, below, and straight on. You'll want to replicate that as much as possible with whatever lighting you buy. Those big cheap soft boxes you bought might be ok at hitting you from above but they are probably not filling in below your eyes which would lead to seeing those dark circles pop out. They also just might not be bright enough. I'd see if you can find a thin soft light panel or something that you can stick under your monitor, angled up slightly. Be sure to also have a little bit of top/back light so that you don't totally flatten yourself out.

here is a thing I found with some quick googling that might fit the bill: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L8QL93G

Got these dimmers on Amazon for some tabletop lamps. Very very happy with it.

Well it looks like your power supply has a different output voltage (19v) than what the LED strip requires (12v), which could be the problem. I would suggest looking to see if the strip manufacturer has a power supply that will work for the strip, or buy a kit online like this for example, I'm sure you could find something cheaper/different that fits your preferences.

Do you mean something like this pencil solderer and this solder?
I've never done any soldering before so I'm not quite sure what I need to do. Would watching guides on youtube be enough for a simple soldering job like this?
