As I'm sure you guessed, this lock is quite old. I believe it would be considered a rim lock as it mounts to the face of the door rather than being bored into the edge of the door. You may be able to find some markings on it but even then it might not be too helpful, the company could be out of business for a long long time by now. Even if they're still around its doubtful they would be any help as Im sure they stopped supporting this hardware long ago.

The good news is that since its for an interior door there is a pretty good chance it uses one of a couple of keys which are easily and cheaply available. I would try these, its worth the gamble of a few bucks. If they work one lock in your house they probably work all the others too (assuming the other locks are in working order of course). http://www.amazon.com/Lucky-Line-87202-Skeleton-Keys/dp/B000LNQO8I

You are correct about the spring, it appears to me to be missing. The spring sits in the slot you were describing. That piece is the lever (you have a lever tumbler lock) and the spring is anchored in that slot, wraps around the rounded part and is held in place by the inside of the case. Something like this.

A local locksmith should be able to make you a spring like this pretty cheaply, assuming they work on old stuff, a lot don't these days. I would call up a shop and tell them you have an antique lock that uses a bit key that you need a spring made for and see what they say. You can probably pick up the keys for them as well.

I own the house I am living in and the housemate just rents it, so I will be able to put it pretty much anywhere I like. I am redoing some things in the basement and was thinking of having it cemented into the floor. The safe is over 100lbs but I want it secured just to be sure. I have a security system so I really just need the safe to hold for as long as it takes myself or the police to show up. These are all just precautions as nobody knows I have the safe(other than the housemate and his gf) and he just thinks it is for my gun and nothing too valuable. Would this be okay? Or should I go with something else? I was also looking at one of these to have cemented into the ground. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058W3UU2?pf_rd_p=faa1d3e1-fadf-4279-ac2d-3096206e4690&pf_rd_r=E5A6CHTDQ22SPD7AVKAE
Thanks for all the help!

Well, thankfully I don't ask why as I can see the perspective pretty easily. I don't know why some ccw people get butthurt about the question, though: "Oh it's a tool! I carry it what's it to you?! Because of the neighborhod!" Someone in /r/edc once linked me to this video which explained it beautifully. I've since stopped asking. In addition I've read large chunks of this book which go into a lot about self defense (physical) which need to be taught in classes. I do my best to mentally prepare myself for any sort of conflict I might encounter. I'm an easy going guy & don't really deal with a lot of people to be honest, but it helps to understand the reality of the situations out there.

Going on a rant here: My other problem is everyone is against ccw for some reason. Those people don't know what it's like to walk down a street in fear of something. They don't realize that ccw people are usually the fucking nicest people you'll meet because of the things they learn through experience & that if you draw, you better be willing to use it mentality.

That is a tubular lock pretending to be a cylindrical. It is complete garbage in every way and should not be sold but rather given away as it will surely break shortly as it is not a durable lock. I am pretty sure this guy was a huge fucking scammer, ironically he charge a $29 service call, that is how they get you, with low service calls and sky high prices for garbage. You likely googled the shit and got a scammer. This shit happens all the time and you are not the first to get conned. Frankly you schmucked yourself but realistically it is not like you knew any better. You fucked up and it is going to be a huge hassle to try to get your money back. Lastly you should really replace the lock with something else that is at least a similar color to the door.

I would recommend a Baldwin

Haha. Just kidding. I know that feeling for sure

I maintain a few hundred of these locks for the school district I work for. I strongly recommend a couple things. First, get the DB9 type serial programming cable rather than the USB one, they're just more reliable. Even if your machine running DL-Windows doesn't have an old timey serial port, a separate USB-to-DB9 adapter is way cheaper to replace if it craps out than the custom Alarm Lock USB all in one. Second, I strongly recommend picking up a Data Transfer Module for programming the locks. It not only conveniently comes with a CDROM with DL-Windows, It's also a lot easier to deal with than struggling with balancing a laptop with DL-Windows in one hand while punching in the programming code with the other. Pay no mind to the reviews on Amazon, they're the result of people struggling with DL-Windows rather than any shortcoming of the DTM.

Be prepared for a rather steep learning curve dealing with the idiosyncracies of DL-Windows. The software is basically the same interface as it was when it was introduced like 25 years ago, they've just kept adding more menus and buttons to handle additional features. I think the idea is that old timer locksmiths don't have to learn a new program.

Also, your 26 bit 125khz fobs with work just fine. All you need to do is type in the facility code and id code.

Feel free to message me or post here with DL-Windows or Alarm Lock questions.

Lock kit for a dial Lock.

The Fix

Get 2 tapered pins and ball bearing that just fit in the hole. ( the pins I linked too are pricey check your local hardware store) just giving you an idea of what to look for. )

Remove old lock install a taper pin from the back try to only insert it 3/8 inch. Now insert bearing preferably with hammer. You can now install taper pin on front. then grind them off. This is the best fix.

The easy fix is just a tapered pin in the front or back.

Follow instructions that come with lock on the Install. Be careful cutting dial rod you get one chance and don't mess up the threads. clamp the piece your cutting off in vice if possible, Don't hold dial and cut you can damage it. clean end with a file.

Check your combo multiple times. before closing door.

Sorry I never recommend electronic safe locks for floor safes due to water issues.

I would honestly just recommend something like this.

Sliding door locks are generally garbage mostly because the door is a big pane of glass. You could put a $400 lock o it and someone with some eyepro and a good head of steam could literally come running right in.

I hope I don't catch to much shit for this, but I ordered a bunch of original keys from Amazon. This was back when I was just forming my game plan and hadn't found this subreddit yet. It still seems like a legit plan though, so I'm moving forward with it.

For those reading this looking for answers, I bought this one.
Prime-Line Products E 2400 Re-Keying Kit, Kwikset, 5 Pin https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B003VP1QIG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.Q6pDbJHTZDN3
My brother was able to rekey all the doors in my house. Quite easy once you get the first one done.
YouTube had a great tutorial on this same kit too

Yes I know. There are a number of other factors involved here many of whom are out of my control as well. Anyway, I think I'll just install one of these. That was my initial idea but gf didn't like the look but she'll have to live with it. Thanks.

I have used these and they work great. They do have some different configurations for larger drawers and they are mountable. The bins are almost the same size as a standard 50 keyblank box from ilco.

Amazon link

This isn’t bad for the price we use $150 calipers and I’ve tried some of these in a pinch and they’re pretty comparable.

Almost all of these keys are the same. You just need a skeleton key. These can be found very cheaply. Don't call a locksmith and waste your money.
