I have NOT cured myself. Let's get that out of the way. I personally think I need to give antibiotics a go for bartonella and see what happens combining them with what I'm already doing. However, these are "natural" things that I have found quite useful for bartonella in particular. I have been much better at one point than I am now, and attribute that to all of this (some things more than others). I have NOT been cured yet, so I'm not claiming any miracles. I have been in a downswing in the past year, and I attribute that mostly to getting away from what was working for me. I say doing as many of these things as possible would be helpful. But if you don't agree/find any of it to be bullshit...don't do it. We don't need to have another internet argument over the validity or proof behind any of this. There is some for some of it, but I'm not offering or claiming anything, but anecdotal evidence here. A little background on me....I'm a former athlete(thanks to these infections) who has always been interested in the best ways to improve my health/body. So when I recommend something like breathing exercises...I recommend them based purely on the physical improvements they have given me. I'm not interested in anything that doesn't work. And just because these things have not "cured" me...does not mean I think they are completely useless. In fact, I may be dead by now or at least in a much worse place physically than I am now and like I used to be. I found some things some people claim as absolute bullshit....to be actually quite helpful. And I have also found some of it to be useless. At least for me. I keep an open mind, and try what I can afford if I think it could be useful. I would recommend these to anyone who has been on antibiotics for a while and isn't noticing any/or little improvement. Maybe just try these for a while instead or in a combination. That's up to you and your doctor. I recommend not jumping in without careful consideration and second opinions. So with all of that said.....these are things I have personally found helpful. I may expound on these later, but for now, google search these herbs in general and with keywords like Lyme, Bartonella, etc if you want any explanations as to WHY they would be helpful.
circulation, and keeping you warm. We tend to run on the chilly side with
these bugs inhibiting our circulation.
*Hot baths
be foods and spices that promote circulation, warmth in the
body...some are antimicrobial as well (such as garlic). This is basically a
lifestyle change. You are trying to get back to even....and as these infections
are diseases that are promoting bodies with weakness, tendency to feeling
cold, having low energy and poor circulation....we can help this by avoiding
foods that promote sluggishness and bacteria growth. So cooking veggies
instead of eating them raw...and drinking tea or room temperature water as
opposed to cold water can help on this area. For more info on this just google
yang and yin foods. Certain aspects of Chinese Medecine are more out
there...but for anyone skeptical... this part is just simple common sense on
how food, spices and herbs affect your bodies beyond just calorie surpluses
and defecits. Its already prevelant in western society to a degree. We tend
toward warm/heavy food in winter when we are cold and need more energy. In
the summer we go for lighter, colder foods. Take a look at it. Again not a
cure.....but a very helpful tool. Close to my biggest recommendation. Create an
environment that the bugs don't thrive in....and attack it with antibiotics
herbs...go at it from both sides.
Pearls, Dragon Pearls. These are for GU Syndrome. Google it. Don't let the
words "demons" and "snakes" make you dismiss this right away. Read about
it. These are just the translations from Chinese to English for the ancient way
these infections were described. In simple terms "demons" was describing
the more mental aspects of these infections and...bartonella in particular likes
to mess with and embed itself in the brain and nervous system. "Snakes" is
describing infections like Lyme....(what's a spirochete look like?). So these
"Pearls" are a specific brand by one of the better respected TCM Doctors out
there. Doctor Heiner Fruehauf.
GU Syndrome
Some to basically stimulate yourself and some to calm you down. I'm sure you
have heard of Qi Gong and Yoga Breathing at some point. Yes, there is a lot of
bullshit, New Agey and ineffective things that are constantly promoted and labeled as Qi Gong. The term simply means "breath work," or breath exercise.
I do not, once again, believe every single one of these exercises is
bullshit. In fact some of it is absolutely fantastic, practical and relatively easy
to learn. I have found, through really looking into this stuff, that its some of the most basic exercises that are the most effective and based in common sense from a western perspective. So I will focus on the one that I believe to be the
easiest and most effective. And that is the Warriors Breath. Its basically deep chest breathing that floods your body with oxygen( or whatever the actual
explanation is, that's up for debate on the internet) in a healthy way. It might
look like hyperventilation to the unfamiliar eye...but its not. There is a
difference. This is yogic breathing that is very similar to some of the breathing
that Buddhist and Tibetan Monks do to stay warm in the snow. The most famous, easiest way to learn about this is by looking into Wim Hof (The Iceman). Yes, he makes some claims that are, in my opinion, excessive. I do not believe that this alone is the answer to all health problems or our infections...but I do think it is a fantastic tool that has given me back energy, relaxation and cognitive function that nothing else has..which, at the least, indirectly effects your immune system. Bit I sing its praises for the energy it has given my body back. Deep reserve energy...not the cafiene and stimulant type of energy. The specific version I do (which I believe to be better than Wim Hof's) is made by a guy who I would describe as very New Agey...for hardcore athiests and people who are highly skeptical of anything Eastern....listening to his CD (where he coaches you through a breathing session) will probably piss you off. I get it. It is kinda cringey to me sometimes when he talks about his beliefs, but it's also not as bad as I'm making it sound. Either way, if that bothers you...get over it. I think the actual, physical exercise he has you do is great. He has worked with Wim Hof and studied with Tibetan monks and combined these two very similar breathing forms and basically fine tuned it. If this interests you I would absolutely recommend buying his CD over Wim Hof's course. I believe it's better and cheaper
Have a look into Wim Hof first though. There is a lot of free stuff on YouTube that can sort of introduce you to the concept.
DO NOT DO the cold immersion part of Wim Hof's program. Just the breathing.
(I had a backslide because of cold immersion and cold baths) Quick cold showers every morning are good though.
adrenals , and nervous system. This and Cordyceps are my two favorite herbs for general energy and we'll being.)
This is all I'm going to type right now. Take what you want and throw away what you don't. I'm making no claims of a cure, and I'm still not free of this disease. There are natural things that can be helpful....but I'm only listing some of the ones that I have tried and found to be helpful. Cheers.
Edit: Also a huge help. Coffee Enemas and detox in general. Some help with Byron White as well.
I am not actively treating lyme currently. I have done longterm antibiotics and haven't seen good results. Due to concerns about longterm abx and gut flora issues, I have decided to treat mold issues and detox first and then come back around to eliminating lyme. I am currently not on any pharmaceuticals.
Mold/ Mycotoxin Binders: I am on activated charcoal (Bulletproof activated charcoal) to help bind and excrete mycotoxins. I couldn't tolerate Cholestyramine (Compounded without aspartame), it made me very ill. I also cycle chlorella. I go slowly because personally, when I take binders, I feel very sick and get very weird mentally, especially in regards to anxiety.
I also couldn't tolerate welchol, which made me suicidal but after going off it I felt fine.
Other considerations:
-Moved out of a water damaged building
Supplements:
Other:
-Bluelight blocking glasses at night Heres some cheap ones: (https://www.amazon.com/Uvex-Blocking-Computer-SCT-Orange-S1933X/dp/B000USRG90)
-Clean diet, organic as much as possible, No gluten, low sugar, and I play around with dairy. Lots of grass fed beef and good veggies. (I was dairy free for a few years however when I eat it I feel fine.)
-Avoidance of conventional household products. Instead: Natural detergents, soaps, toothpaste, shampoo, etc... I do use conventional aluminum containing deodorant because I have some less than ideal odor if I don't.
-Air oasis filter to improve indoor air quality (bedroom)
-Water filter in shower, Reverse Osmosis filter to drink from. (Ideally, you'd have a whole house filter but I do not.)
-Exercise as tolerated. (I can only lift sometimes, I cannot tolerate cardio.) DO NOT overdo it.
Things I will try soon:
-More regular sun exposure
-epsom salt baths
-Alka seltzer gold (Helps alleviate detox and herxheimer symptoms in some people.)
-Actual sauna (Not infrared)
For more info on mold check out:
(Ritchie shoemakers site, not a huge fan of his personally, I disagree with a few things he says but still worth reading and learning what he has to say.)
The best article I have found: (Non-Shoemaker)

I have summarized here but feel free to ask questions and I will go into further detail. Good luck to everyone in regaining health. Cheers.
yes, did it for about six months. improved, but didn't last, and it may well have had long term negative impacts. I'd urge you to start with less risky treatments. antibioitcs are also risky (probably less risky if IV because doesn't impact your biome as much).
===
To recommend one, natural anti-virals coupled with focused nutrition and supplementation have recently pretty much cured me, and I've read many stories on here about success with anti-virals.
===
Thyme tea and olive leaf tea are my go-to natural antivirals and have made a real difference for me since adding them. Star anise is another one you may want to consider adding in on top of those.
===
There are many other safer places to look into as well. Good luck.
Jordan Fisher Smith, one of the Lyme disease patients documented in Under Our Skin (a required film for Lymies!), is the only person who I am aware of who claims that he is “cured.” His treatment was long-term antibiotics, as well as Chinese acupuncture & herbs, supplements, a clean diet, exercise & proper sleep. Jordan’s struggle is partially described in a 2006 article for Backpacker—“Reality Bites: Lyme Disease”. In 2016 he said, “I was treated for 7-1/2 years and have been totally cured now for 8 years. There are others.”
Ally Hilfiger, designer Tommy Hilfiger’s daughter, wrote a (great!) book titled Bite Me, describing a nightmarish experience with Lyme that began in her childhood. She now refers to her health status not as “cured,” but instead, “managed.”
“Managed” is a term that resonates with me. I do not believe there is a cure for Lyme (if there were wouldn’t we know about it by now??), however I do know of people who find a “managed” place and are able live fulfilling lives. That is my goal, and I wish this for you too!
—————
FWD: The complexity of “managed” >>
💚 Thought I’d share something I just wrote to my sister. Sums up the reality that has unfolded in the past 6+ years while being treated for late-stage Lyme disease. As they say— take what you want and leave the rest:
“Oh ya there is definitely a ‘secondary lyme syndrome’ meaning lyme and/or lyme treatment will cause or enable other issues/ailments/diseases. It's a catch 22... like chemo, it can wreck you almost as much as the cancer. U just have to hope your immune system has been boosted enough after treatment to fight off anything new. Immune system will always be comprised tho because there is no ‘cure’ for lyme, the bacteria is always lurking even tho antibiotics can take care of a lot of it. U just have to try to eat clean, rest, no stress, take supplements, stay as healthy as possible so as not to allow the bacteria to take over again. Kind of like AIDS patients - they have to be really careful.”
So, there it is. Defend yourself against Lyme disease and if you suspect you have it, see a “lyme-literate doctor” to help nip it in the bud. 💚
> Crohn's is permanent
There was a guy who almost died from Crohn's. He just about had his entire GI tract removed but likely wouldn't have survived so they sent him home. He attributes his recovery primarily to a black powder he started taking that's a seed form of probiotics.
There was a small study done with this probiotic and a placebo. The probiotic group reported very good results with several reporting becoming asymptomatic IIRC.
The guy's name is Jordan Rubin and the book he wrote about his story is Patient Heal Thyself (Amazon link, but you can probably find it elsewhere). He went on to turn the probiotic into a supplement others could obtain. It's called Primal Defense. Here is a link to the study.
It's no triple-blind study with gobs of participants, but when you're desperate, you don't necessarily wait for mainstream acceptance for a perfectly safe probiotic (also that's a train that's never coming). It was no silver bullet for me, but I don't have Crohn's, but food sensitivities + digestive issues.
All that to also say that it seems to support what you may have indicated: Decimating the good bacteria in your gut can lead Crohn's (genetic predisposition likely being a factor) and restoring said bacteria can reverse it.
Not sure if you're familiar with [the yummy sounding] fecal transplants, but they've gotten cheaper & easier (frozen pills!) and would likely have a same/similar effect.
edit: Changed Amazon link to fit Reddit's rules.
While I suggest following Stephan Buhner's protocols to most that I talk with, there are others out there as well. Overview of Buhner's protocols
This is just an overview, the site is not owned or maintained by Buhner himself. If you do choose to use this protocol, then please do buy the book, or borrow it from someone, as there is just too much information in the books that are not anywhere else - and they are not that expensive.
Dr. Rawls has a protocol based on the herbal experience and protocols of Stephan Buhner, which many people do prefer, as long as they don't have allergies to any of the premixed herbs that are included with Rawl's protocols: Dr. Rawl's Lyme protocol
There are other protocols, but in my 20 years of being a forum moderator, I haven't seen a lot of people have success with the others, although they are an option as well. I used one of those and it was what healed a 37 year old set of tick-borne infections for me, so they can be life savers for some of us.

One thing that I did when I was searching for treatment options was to read this book (maybe you can borrow it from someone, or your library can get it for you?):
13 Lyme Literate Practitioners share their healing insights
The reason I still suggest this book is because it shows that everyone still has different ideas about how to go about healing from these infections. About the only thing that has changed, is that there is more focus on healing the GI system as soon as possible to help facilitate healing better. If we can absorb and utilize what we take in better, obviously we will heal faster.
I did 3 years of LLMD treatment, which helped with some symptoms, but I still have disabling fatigue. I've been off treatment for about two years.
Now I'm going more of an herbal route. I'm putting more stock in herbs than in vegetables and diet. I maintained a healthy low-carb diet throughout my LLMD treatment but kept worsening anyway.
My plan is to do Buhner's core protocol from Healing Lyme, but I'm DIY'ing some of the extracts so it'll be 2-3 months before I start.
Here's a breakdown of the core protocol:
You may notice that of this long list, only one item is actually killing Lyme bacteria. If you're interested in what he means by endothelial protection, cytokine remodulation, etc, I can expand on those.
Since you're having so much trouble with your joints, you may want to try the collagen and endothelial protectors.
Buhner also has additional protocols to target specific symptoms, including an expanded collagen support protocol. I don't have trouble with my joints, so I'm planning on doing the chronic fatigue protocol after I've incorporated all of the above.
All of that is just what I'm planning to do, though. What I'm doing now is a mishmash of things that I got from a redditor:
I never had recognizable herxes from antibiotics, but am having them now, so I do think it's working. The monolaurin seems to be the worst herx trigger, and I'm increasing my dosage very gradually.
I want to note that I don't just start taking all this stuff all at once. I add one thing in at a time, maybe once every 5-7 days, and I start at a low dose and work up unless the dose is just one capsule. Because if I have a bad reaction, I want to know what is causing it. I also carefully track when I start what, and when I increase my dosages (I was a scientist in my former life).
So it will take a good bit of time to get fully on the Buhner protocol.
As a side note, treating with DMSO kinda freaks me out, because I used to work with DMSO in the lab. I was highly aware that it could permeate my skin, bringing along whatever chemotherapy drug I was working with that day! But it makes perfect sense that it works as a topical carrier, and it's good to hear that it's helping you.
My public library has a rather robust LYME DISEASE section. I highly recommend starting there, as I always say "FREE IS FOR ME."
"Read this book to find out about the following breakthrough Lyme Disease treatments. Five Core Treatment Protocols: The Antibiotic Rotation Protocol, The Marshall Protocol, The Salt / Vitamin C Protocol, Detoxification, and Electromedicine (Rife Machine Therapy). Five Supportive Supplements: Systemic Enzymes, Mangosteen, Lithium Orotate, Coenzyme Q10, and Magnesium. This book is also very helpful for the family and friends of loved ones with Lyme disease."

This is a great place to start before you have a chance to see a doctor: this doctor named Bill Rawls used the Buhner protocol to get himself better, and now sells his own herbal protocol called the Restore Kit. Read his book, buy the restore kit, and schedule and appointment with him on the vital plan website. This book is by far the best I've read about Lyme and associated diseases, and I've read many of them. Another good one is Dr. Horowitz's book "How Can I Get Better?"
https://www.amazon.com/Unlocking-Lyme-Practical-Solutions-Chronic/dp/0982322526/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501890905&sr=8-1&keywords=dr+rawls+lyme

Yeah I think this is pretty common across Lyme patients. The infection (or lingering damage) creates so much inflammation, you need to eat pretty clean to even get close to feeling "normal."
This book on the Autoimmune Protocol Diet has been pretty useful for me in terms of finding some new creative ideas that don't involve grains:
https://www.amazon.com/Autoimmune-Paleo-Cookbook-Allergen-Free-Approach/dp/0578135213
I have used Flourish Probiotics by Eu Natural. These are actually probiotic supplements. i had a really bad case of stomach problems with nausea and lack of appetite. I was recommend this and did some research before deciding to go in for it. Basically, this is a natural combination of healthy bacteria that helps to support digestion, urinary tract and gut health. The brand Eu Natural is actually highly recommended when it comes to natural products. I will attach a link so you can read more into it. But definitely a go for me:
https://www.amazon.com/Flourish-Probiotics-Women-Lactobacillus-Saccharomyces/dp/B07KFPCCLP
Good luck
I will also add that Calms magnesium powder in tea is amazing and puts me to sleep much of the time. Alka-seltzer Gold, aspirin and naproxen have helped with migraines and inflammation, but to a much lesser extent than the cannabis, so I haven't even thought of using those again since I started this regimen. I also recommend one of those personal saunas, relaxes my muscles and warms up my constantly cold feet. Baths with epsom salt an help.

He says “Multiple Sclerosis is just a collection of symptoms, and Lyme bacteria can be the cause of it.”
It’s not.
Met plenty of people who caught it and treated early. Some who even had the tick and got it tested. They still ended up chronic even after multiple rounds of antibiotics. Myself included.
Once Lyme forms biofilms and goes into hiding all bets are off. As time passes Lyme seems to be evolving to become more antibiotic resistant as well.
Then there is the persister cells that need to be wiped out. Standard antibiotics are showing poor efficacy against them. Many doctors are turning to other antimicrobial drugs including antimalarial and leprosy medications.

One of the researchers who helped create Lyme disease confessed shortly before his death that it was breed in a bioweapons research program for the US government. It was designed and selectively bread to evade easy testing and treatment in the 50-60’s. Now that it’s escaped the lab it’s evolved to become even more treatment resistant and “catching it early” is not at all a guarantee of easy treatment.
Catching it early merely gives you a fighting chance to put it into remission before it can do a lot of damage. That’s about it. Most antibiotics will put it into remission but won’t necessarily wipe out all the biofilms and persister cells. So the disease waits until conditions are right and then reproduces and reinfects the person. Relapses can happen months or years after successful antibiotic treatment. That’s why we don’t really refer to people being cured but merely in remission. It’s because the disease often comes back later when you’re not expecting it.
This is unfortunately the truth and you can read more about it from a Stanford medical writer in her book based on freedom of information documents from the US government as well as the personal notes and documents of one of the researchers: https://www.amazon.com/Bitten-History-Disease-Biological-Weapons/dp/006289627X

Here are the top two natural treatments that I have come across that are raved about in the lyme community. Obviously do some research of your own but the reviews on the bottom of the page should speak loudly to their effectiveness. Good luck. Time is of the essence, so get an apt with a LLMD.
in my personal experience, unless I was already sleep deprived, I could never sleep past like 4 hours.. From then on, it's restlessness with brief sleeps. I found a more bio-available form of magnesium than the one I used to take and it completely fixed my sleep issues single-handedly. My other trick when I wake up like 2-3 hours before i want to is to chug water. It sounds stupid but just try it. I typically drink 64oz before bed and another 32 ready on bed stand if I wake up.

2 things worth trying, goodluck!
if you're curious to pursue, here's a link to the mag I take. I've never done a background check on the company so do with it as you may.. just found it on amazon based on certain magnesium forms I sought. https://www.amazon.com/Triple-Calm-Magnesium-Glycinate-Relaxation/dp/B01GW4V7MC/ref=sr_1_18?crid=1GR18LHX6W5VF&keywords=magnesium+taurate&qid=1558648940&s=gateway&sprefix=magnesium+tau%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-18
The herbs are Colloidal Silver and Skullcap. Then I've been taking this stuff called Cholestoff that is supposed to help remove the lyme toxins from my body. I feel like that has worked the best. Perhaps I killed the lyme from all of the antibiotics / antimalarials, and then these herbs have been removing the toxins from my system lessoning the symptoms. At least that's what my Naturalpath says. I went to her to test if I might have mold sensitivities which were causing my symptoms to be worse. The tests she ran told me that my body wasn't able to remove the lyme toxins properly, thus causing the symptoms to remain even if the Lyme and co-infections may be gone. Please take this with a grain of salt. I'm not 100% sold on the science behind this method, (Shoemaker protocol) but like I said, I exhausted my run with antibiotics and this has seemed to have helped.
Also look into Stephen Buhner's Healing Lyme book. Or you can look it up online. I've also been taking some supplements from his regimen, specifically Cat's Claw, which is supposed to help with the joint pain. The Buhner protocol seems to help a lot of people and I've seen it recommended on r/lyme before, but I haven't tried it out completely myself. Let me know if you have any questions.
The latest research is suggesting that Lyme can become a chronic infection requiring longterm, multiple antibiotics to treat effectively. The medical system is decades behind in acknowledging the potential for Lyme to be a persistent infection, and has become divided into opposing camps that will never reach a consensus until the evidence is overwhelming. The average doctor is not only clueless about Lyme, but the other diseases ticks carry. Even amongst LLMDs (Lyme-literate), few are using the antibiotics proven to be effective in eliminating the chronic form of the bacteria.
The treatment options are diet and other holistic methods to control the symptoms, herbs (Buhner, Cowden), antibiotics in a whack-a-mole approach, or aggressive treatment with somewhat dangerous antibiotics like dapsone.
To educate your family I'd recommend Ticked Off, Stand4Lyme's educational video, and this interview with one of the first LLMDs. We are 20 years from fully understanding this disease, the situation is similar to AIDS in the 1980s, there's a lot of speculation, and treatment is haphazard due to the lack of research.
Was she ever on antibiotics for the lyme?
I would recommend epsom salt baths and an infrared sauna. You can buy a home one for like $140. It helps tremendously with that "poison in the blood" feeling and other detox issues.
