Hey man. Yes they are hard to find but I got the Thule Gauntlet 3.0 15in sleeve. Really really good hard case sleeve which fits the GS65 just nicely.

I’d only suggest running very minimal programs if you’d like to use the laptop within the sleeve as literally every vent is completely blocked in this thing. Definitely not for gaming within the sleeve!

The best appeal is for transport though. The GS65 deserves the best protection it can get and the Thule is awesome and I highly recommend it!

Wow great news! I was in the middle of returning this, good thing I hadn't made it to the post office yet - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UB55VOY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00 ... When I got it I noticed the connector has two slots in it when the original drive only had one so I immediately initiated a return with Amazon. SO glad I saw your comment, I tried and the drive fit and then the bios recognized the drive immediately.

The image restore finished and now my main is a 512! Thank you!!

My personal recommendation: Take the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohms version.

On Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-770-PRO-250-ohms/dp/B0016MNAAI?th=1

Reasons:

  1. High impendance. Puts the ESS Sabre Audio DAC to good use.
  2. Excellent sound quality. Basses are well reproduced with excellent audio clarity.
  3. Closed back: If you require near-perfect audio cancellation, this is for you.
  4. No gimmicks: You get a quality headset with no useless gimmicks such as virtual sorround (often baked to inflate perceived value, such as the Beats By Dre shills).
  5. Compatible with mod mics: If you prefer external microphone support, such as these by AntLion, you're in for a treat: https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-ModMic-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B00T6XUL8S

Speaking from experience, as that combination is my daily driver.

What do you get from all this?

(a). Independent volume control for both chat (via the mic) and in-game and audio output (via the headset).
(b). No compromises: Should you prefer to repurpose this headset for professional audio production, say, in a studio, any high-powered DAC will drive it.

Note that the ESS Sabre Audio is rated to drive up to 600 Ohm headsets, so it should be able to drive anything in the market. The reason I recommend the 80 Ohm over the 250 Ohm headset is because the perceived audio quality between the two headsets is almost identical, for a much more affordable entry point.

    Have fun.

Can you explain the differences between the pro, evo plus, and pro evo? There's a bunch of different models and it's confusing. Just finished reading this article and I still don't understand the differences. The Pro version is somehow cheaper than the Evo Plus version.

Edit: Found the difference here

>The EVO is the 2018 version of their drive. Its 64 layer memory. On the 1 tb drive has an endurance of 600 TBW(Terrabytes Written)

>The PRO is the better version the 2018 EVO. Its also 64 layer memory, but faster than the 2019 EVO. It has an endurance of 1200 TBW on the 1 Tb drive.

>The 2019 EVO plus is a 96 layer memory. So its faster than the EVO and almost as fast as the PRO. Has an endurance of 600TBW on the 1 Tb drive.

>The performance advantage a plus has over a pro is that on big file writes, it can write for longer without throttling due to overheating.

>Price wise Plus is about the same as EVO but pro costs ablut 100 dollars more than the other options.

>Plus has better value for most people. Except for people who need high endurance, like video editors, motion graphics artists, etc.

Note that the following instructions only apply if your laptop's wireless card is an M.2.

0. Make sure you download drivers from Intel's site before replacing your card in case you lose WiFi access upon installing the new one.

  1. Buy Intel 8265 here or 8260 here if you don't care about MU-MIMO support and want to save ~$5.

  2. Open up the bottom panel of your laptop. Make sure your laptop is fully shut off before doing this. Find out how to do this by just Googling it. Generally not too hard to do, just be careful not to misplace screws and/or break your laptop or any of the clips that hold the panel in.

  3. Locate your wireless card (it should look very similar to the new one you bought, obviously) and disconnect it from the M.2 slot as well as the antennae.

  4. Attach the antennae to your new card before slotting it in, making sure to match black with black and white with white.

  5. Slot the new card into the M.2 slot.

  6. Put the back panel back on, reboot computer, install drivers.

  7. ???

  8. Profit!

I have the exact same laptop and purchased this one from amazon:
www.amazon.com/SwissGear-Blue-Ibex-Computer-Backpack/dp/B000VOC90Y

Works great and I can even fit my laptop in a neoprene sleeve that i bought from amazon as well in the book bag. Link to that as well here:
www.amazon.com/dp/B00LU7BE20/ref=psdc_335609011_t1_B002GT1XL8

edit: If you have any questions feel free to ask, I use mine for work and travel.

That's a different version than the one I have. I actually upgraded mine with the firecuda sshd as well and that's working great for me although I bought a 2.5mm spacer because I'm OCD and the old drive was 9.5mm height. My MSI wasn't equipped with an area for an additional ssd but you could try something like this if you have an optical drive you won't use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004XIU4T2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_UXUTAb5HW5R6F.

Please know that I didn't look at the specs for your specific laptop and don't know if this one will fit. I would imagine there is something similar available if you really need a second SSD. If you go this route you'll wanna make sure your laptop has a SATA connector to plug into and that the expansion bay will physically fit into your laptop.

Edit: I think the drive expansion I linked is for a standard size ssd also. If you buy the smaller laptop specific ssd you'll need something else

I’ve had this comp for two months and have not gone as far as opening the hood but I can tell you I’ve played Fortnite, Apex Legends and Modern Warfare (plus a few weeks of WoW classic) flawlessly. I dabbled with Throttlestop but I’m not advanced enough yet to know if it’s made a major difference. I do use this stand for cooling which works great!

Can't be sure for the GS75, but I'd assume it'd fit into any 17" sleeve or 17" laptop backpack (and a lot of 15' ones too with the dimensions).

As for the GS70, I was lugging it around in an old backpack while still in college. it would fit barely and extremely tightly into the SwissGear 1270. It was only stated to fit 15' though so I can't complain. Also used the Case Logic 17" (DLC-117) which it also fit very tightly into.

it looks like PS4 has a remote play feature which might be easier and shouldn't require any extra hardware, http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/game/how-play-ps4-on-pc-using-pc-remote-play-playstation-now-streaming-2016-3630864/

otherwise i've heard good about the elgato capture card, https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Systems-Capture-Definition-Recorder/dp/B00840353W

if you go with streaming i highly recommend using a wired ethernet connection for both the playstation and laptop

The 2018 model is still good but the case isn’t as sturdy/bends easily. The early 2019 models with an 8750H and RTX you’d are discounted now that 9th gen CPUs are out.
I don’t use a case when I transport my laptop. I actually use a travel lap pad.

Grifiti Travel Deck 15 x 10 Laptop Lap Desk Retrofits Inside Computer Sleeves Cases Packs for MacBook, Notebooks, Laptops and Writing (Travel Deck 15 x 10 Inch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y1QO5KK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rPthDbCD8XP8E

I sit the laptop on the pad then stuff it into my backpack (which has a laptop sleeve built in). This reduced the chance of bending since the laptop pad has a metal core built in.

I have a GT73VR, but also have a GL62M as a backup machine. It comes with an M.2 SSD, but also has an empty 2.5" HDD slot. I opened it up and put one in to transfer some stuff. So you have the option of replacing the NVMe SSD, or adding a 2.5 SSD. As far an NVMe, the 1TB 970 EVO is the most popular choice right now. It's crazy, I bought a 1TB 960 EVO for $499.99 in 2017 and its successor is way better and $200 cheaper.

So from the product manual, that i'm seeing here,

FOR SSD:

your laptop have 1x M.2 PCIe/SATA Combo slot and 1x M.2 PCIe slot. and the ssd that you mentioned in specs is nvme/pcie ssd. Therefore i can assume that you can buy either m.2 sata or m.2 pcie/nvme drive. both will work. but i would recommend buying m.2 ssd for mass storage if you are not doing any kind of video editing. you can buy e.g. crucial mx500 1tb. Or if you are doing video editing or really hard core work that require insane amount of read write ssd speeds then buy samsung 970 evo.

How to configure in laptop:

- if u buy sata ssd: remove the alrdy installed ssd and put it in pcie only slot. put new sata ssd in combo slot.

- if u buy pcie/nvme ssd: install it in the second empty slot. dont touch alrdy installed ssd.

FOR RAM:

since you want 32 gb, you would need to replace both ram sticks. Also since laptop has intel cpu, ram of speeds 2667 are enough. buy a kit of 2x16gb 2667mhz and just replace the old rams. you can buy this and use it. i have recently installed 8gb ballistix stick in my laptop to make it 2x 8gb. works great.

Several videos are online to open up ur laptop. e.g. this one. just follow.

By the "fan assembly", do you mean the entire heat sink system? You don't need to replace the whole thermal system, the fan is installed on with 3 screws, you don't even need to take heat sink off.
For the fan itself, you can buy it from here: https://www.amazon.com/QUETTERLEE-Replacement-Cooling-MS-16Q1-16Q2-CPU-CW/dp/B07MZ2SFBN/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=msi+gs65+fan&qid=1562599039&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Hey Fwast, thanks a lot for your reply! I will def. look into the hardwareswap option (not sure if it's reliable or not). Another option could also be eBay. Not sure if you would be able to help me with this but the 2 desktops i am looking into are:

1)https://www.amazon.com/iBUYPOWER-Computer-Desktop-i7-9700k-9230/dp/B07J5RPC32

2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J1W2NHB/ref=sspa_dk_hqp_detail_aax_0?psc=1

Do you have any opinions about those 2?

Good advice that I only learned today.

Do I get 16 GB Dual Rank, 16 GB Kit Dual Rank, or 16 GB Single Rank?

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC4-19200-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B019FRBHZ0/ref=sr_1_17?keywords=16gb+ram+laptop&qid=1574400373&sr=8-17

I tried to see if it was compatible with GE75 Raider, and it asked if it was GE75 48, GE75 49, etc. Man I don't even know which one Walmart is offering.

edit: read an article from this year that 16 GB should be enough for most gamers, unless you are an video editor, etc. Still, I heard about the "single-channel" slowness issue today, so I believe you have a possible point. I imagine I'm the the type who only needs 16 GB.

u/bornxntuesday · 2 pointsr/MSILaptops

You should look at the specs of your laptop. I've looked here https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GL63-8SX-GTX/Specification and it says that the memory type is DDR4-2666. I don't know how much RAM you are looking for, but you could buy one stick to add it in the empty slot or buy two sticks of RAM and replace the one you have. Max capacity is 32gb, so I'd buy another 8gb stick because 16gb is enough for gaming. For example, something like this: https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct8g4sfs8266

The HDD is a 2.5" SATA HDD. I'm not sure because I've never installed a HDD, but I guess a HDD like this would work for you https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-MQ01ABD-Internal-Drive-MQ01ABD100/dp/B009AYVNMQ/

Try to search which brand is better for your needs because I haven't test these out and I'm very new to upgrading laptops, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
