I need advice on spending money on MTGA. I've been playing casually and using all the promo codes. I think it's about time to spend some USD to flesh out my rather anemic selection of cards.

The 'Welcome Bundle' seems like an easy buy, but some of my more MTG-savvy friends are telling me to wait until august when the next card season(?) is released.

I've also been looking at options like this and this, are they good buys?

I'm looking for the best bang for my buck, any advice would be appreciated.

I have done a little bit of searching... You may possibly get lucky and find a cheap used laptop that will -barely- be able to play the game. If it were me, I would personal prefer a $200 gift card to Amazon or Newegg to put toward getting a decent new Laptop that can play the game fairly well. I don't know much about the very bare bones specs to play the game, but from what I have seen, about $350 is your lowest price point.

Something like this should be able to play the game well enough for it to be an enjoyable experience ( I am sure graphic settings for the game will need to be lowered in-game)-

Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i3-8130U, 6GB RAM Memory, 1TB HDD, 8X DVD, E5-576-392H https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aOeDCbVJFRSNV

Lots of people in here saying you should seek help but not really helping you with what help to seek.

Look into a specific type of therapy for this - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

You can buy a self help book online, they're fairly cheap. Or, you can look into a therapist that can go into that with you. This is a very good book for that

Work on yourself, don't let depression beat you down too hard.

YES. for solo series read Arena https://www.amazon.com/Arena-Magic-Gathering-No-1/dp/0061054240

For a epic storyline like whats currently happening (but WAY better) start with the brothers war and work your way throught the artifact cycle.

https://www.amazon.com/Brothers-War-Artifacts-Cycle-ebook/dp/B07C91KLV8/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=the+brothers+war&qid=1554126310&s=books&sr=1-2

my personal favorite set was the kamigawa set but its not as .. well liked by all as the other two. i just REALLY liked Toshi.

My wife prefers the Lorwyn cycle.

that may be a lot. I say start with either arena if you just want a single story, and artifacts cycle if you want a reaching storyline.

Edit if you like epic fights, Arenas got you covered. Half the story is about a wizards tournament in Dominaria with mages beating the shit out of each other and killing each other.

Edit x2: everyone who plays magic should know the basics behind Urza Planeswalker from the artifacts cycle. And how much of an annoying punk his lab assistant teferi is. :p

I bought [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HKBDFQX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Its not a desktop, but it's fairly good computer that I play Arena on all of the time. No problems at all.

The only downside is it's a brick of a computer (weighs 6lbs+, which is a lot for a laptop) and it doesn't have a web cam (which I actually view as a positive). The specs outside of that are the best I could find for the price. 16 GB of RAM, i7 with slightly less than 4 GHz quad core processor and a decent, not high end, graphics card for games.

You joke, but the MLP CCG is pretty legit.

I just got this laptop (or at least one very similar) a couple weeks ago for my birthday and it runs Arena great - https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Display-A12-9720P-Bluetooth-Earphone/dp/B0748YG81P

I did some brief looking into an Arena-capable laptop a few months back. This one looked viable: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07RF1XD36

I highly recommend doing some more research on system requirements and user reviews before making any purchase.

Stop this stupid stereotype please.

There's no mistake to be made with esper. A red player has more decisions in most matchups.

Esper just thought erasure turn 2 then just plays like this "ok my mortify goes on his enchantment, my contempt on his legendary creature, my cast down on his regular one, and the counterspell for the only thing I can't manage, I'll do another thought erasure in 5 turns so that i'm sure I can go on...".

Here is all you need to learn how to play esper
