I'm actually really happy that you love my binder. My mom straight up was like, "wow, how did I not see your ADHD signs before now? this binder is literally the definition of hyperactive organization." Recently diagnosed with mild adhd (the quiet kind) & have been in therapy for different things including impulses and irrational decisions. I feel weird including it in my flair, but I feel like if people included things like that, it would kind of be helpful in terms of seeing how similar traits and actions can show with makeup purchases and hoarding. Is that weird to want to do and see that? Obviously not everyone is comfortable with it. It would just be kind of interesting. If we knew we weren't alone with our impulses OR mental health, if that is an issue.

ANYWAY. Thank you for suggesting that I might be overestimating it. I might be. Or I might be worrying about having the cash for a staple, because I'm too impulsive to save it for when I need a replacement instead of a new shadow, shirt, etc. O.O and then I try to manipulate my situation into seeming like I can find a way around saving my money for the staples that matter. Wow. Revelation right there? Pretty sure it just happened. Omg. You're probably judging me too hard right now. Omg. I can't believe I just realized that the manipulation is actually a real thing. (I know I do it with grades/skipping class but still doing well). UGH! Dang. Whew. Lots of emotions.

Onto your next point. I'd like to try tinted moisturizer. Again, though, I don't have one nor have I tried one. I tried my roommates BB cream, but didn't like how it sat on my skin. So instead of accepting it as a color match and cheaper alternative, I turned it down for no real reason. Maybe I can figure out a good moisturizer to mix with my urban decay one and done. it's thick and kind of dark compared to my watery naked skin. I asked for my new bottle of my foundation for Christmas, actually. I haven't purchased it and will be starting my second bottle. First was birthday, now, Christmas. The only thing is that I know I didn't use it each time I wore foundation, so I'm unsure of the time it took to finish it (I think I have like 3-4 pumps left. First panned foundation if I can do it before 2017. OMG)

You are absolutely right in terms of replacing foundation. I'm not going to wear eye shadow without foundation, so it's something I need to budget for. It sucks that it's $40, but whatever. I agree with the hose, but those are a ~$10 repurchase. I'd love a $10 repurchase....in drugstore foundation. Lol. I have loreal lumi foundation, but it never quite "set" I think. If I finger printed my face, I literally left a finger print. It's the only other foundation I own.

Sometimes I use a dense brush (I found on amazon but when I click my order, it shows all those brushes instead of the ones I got in this thumbnail ) So one of those big thick ones in the pic. I used to use a dense wet n wild one but it never was the same after I washed it. I also have a RT sponge and Beau Gachis black sponge that I got in my ipsy. None of them work better than the other so it depends on what is clean. Sometimes the sponge works better than the brush and visa versa. If you have experience in that sense, please share. I think I need to look into thinning my tool collection and finding specific things I know that work. But the stupid thing with that is me sitting here wondering how much I could get for the $5 set of 10 cheap brushes I could get, used. That's why I put one of my goals as accepting that its ok to toss something well used that I shouldn't just ask a quarter for. I don't need money if it isn't actually worth the money to someone else.

Sorry for hitting you in the face with so much emotion and thoughts. This sub does that to me. If you don't feel like responding to it all, I'd love it if you just commented and said GL LOL. :P Thanks for your thorough response and love of my binder.

First of all, that's great that you're seeing a pro. I am not working either at the moment and struggle SO much with getting out of bed (and also getting to sleep) so I totally relate. I am very slowly building a morning routine where every day I will get out of bed at a certain time and do my AB face routine, shower, and eat breakfast (I have a quick breakfast routine that I can mindlessly do), and get dressed, quickly. I used my love of AB to get me out of bed the first few times, and it is slowly becoming a habit now. The 10 step routine is literally aiding my mental health lol! I do the same thing at night. I might not do anything else in between all day but I still feel so much better for having at least done my routines, a world of difference for something so small. Celebrate your small successes - and forgive yourself for fails - all the days I don't get it done when I meant to etc.

The other thing that is helpful is like you say to have stuff planned for during the day to get you out and about, distracted, doing stuff, but it can be difficult! Great that you are making plans (I use a paper journal), I think that will be soo helpful! Even if you have a day where you do inventory, or buying groceries, or just play with makeup for the day trying looks, or swatch things, all v productive. :)

I tend to fixate on things and for me it's a problem with a lack of groundedness/mindfulness which comes from a place of worry and anxiety. Like I almost forget where I am or what time it is or because I'm so engrossed choosing between Hada Labo Super Lotion and Cezanne High Moist until suddenly the whole day is gone. There's an internet addiction element to it that I haven't quite got to grips with yet as well.

This is reminding me of a book about a mindfulness/cognitive behaviour techniques that I found incredibly helpful as I was able to ground myself and slow time down, be at peace with my bad thoughts, and recalibrate myself. I haven't looked at in a while and this is a good reminder to reread.

Good luck with it all :)

I have a tiny little desk with a full sized mirror behind it. I keep it in my bedroom-- and it is so not travel friendly! Though it wouldn't take too long to break down, I still wouldn't want to break it down and put it back together.

I keep my brushes in these little jars I got from the Target dollar section. They're perfect. I use these to store all of my lipsticks, blushes and everything else. Currently I just have my palettes that don't fit sitting on top, but that kind of worries me. Things I use everyday, like foundation, moisturizer, etc, just sit out on my desk.

My ideal setup would be a traditional vanity-- like the Audrey Hepburn has in Breakfast at Tiffany's. :) I love that movie, and boy do I love that vanity.

I don't think it will be any different once I reach my goals. I haven't reached a stage where I want to reduce my current collection-- my current goals are just for decreasing the incoming! :)

u/redtonks · 15 pointsr/MakeupRehab

I don't see why you can't do both. I mean, panning a palette is about the marathon, not the sprint. Why not use it for, say, a few months, then take a month break, then go back? Or use it 4 nights a week and whatever you want the others?

I mean, you're supposed to enjoy using your makeup, and it doesn't have to be one or the other. Even if you only pan 8 months out of the year for pan that palette, you're still panning, and that's great.

I'm more concerned about the hoarding aspect. It's really easy to keep putting stuff away and use it later, but eventually,y our stuff WILL go bad. It takes awhile with dry eyeshadows, but it does happen, and you're not going to be happy when something you saved for a rainy day finally kicks it.

Panning in general is meant to love your stuff and give it the attention it deserves, and the love of using it up and thanking it for its time. You might find the KonMari method book interesting on that topic and on the topic of getting rid of clutter permanently through a mind shift.

Not exactly a makeup/skincare recommendation, but do you have a humidifier you love? I have one that says it creates an "invisible mist," but I've been running it for 5 days straight in my bedroom and the water level hasn't dropped AT ALL. Humidity level doesn't feel like it has changed at all in the room--I still wake up with a dry, tight face and a dry, bloody nose.

It's been a while since I've shopped for one, and I'm honestly overwhelmed by the options. They all look so different now! Bonus points for one that's not gigantic, hideous, or super loud.

u/Callque · 27 pointsr/MakeupRehab

That is awesome! I know the feeling and it's wonderful. If you haven't already, I recommend making getting ready like an event. Every morning when I wake up I go put on a pretty robe and make tea in a fancy teacup. After that I go sit down at my desk where all of my makeup/hair products are easily accessible, turn on my light and put on some music. It makes me feel glamorous and look forward to my daily ritual of getting ready.

u/aquarin77 · 1 pointr/MakeupRehab

It's this one for normal/combination skin. It doesn't mattify the skin, but I love the fresh fruity scent, and when I apply it, it blends into a very thin layer that feels like water on my skin, it absorbs and does not leave any residue. But I live in Greece, and the winters here are significantly warmer (minimum temp can probably be -5 Celcius?). I don't experience any dry patches either, so this works very well for me.

I own an Alaska Bear mulberry silk pillowcase as well as their silk sleep mask and I love them. The reason it's called mulberry silk is because the silk worms eat only mulberry leaves (at least from what I've seen when I helped out at a silk farm as a kid).

I thought about buying the one with the cotton bottom, but I like to flip my pillowcase after a couple of days, and I've never had issues with it moving around.

Silk is a very soft, light, slippery, and breathable material. I've tried satin before and it makes me sweat. It's like I'm cold and hot at the same time. It's also not as soft and it feels heavier.

I definitely recommend at least buying one and trying it out. I wouldn't spend $100 on something from Nordstrom, though, unless it was made in the US by strapping young men.

There's a violation of trust there from people who ruin our stuff. Afterwards, it's hard to lend things without reservations.

I haven't gone through therapy, but I really respect it. I studied psychology and human development in school but never thought of myself in that context until recently. I was really considering therapy but wanted to see how far self-help books can get me. I'm also reading [The Anxiety Toolkit: Strategies for Fine-Tuning Your Mind and Moving Past Your Stuck Points] (https://www.amazon.com/Anxiety-Toolkit-Strategies-Fine-Tuning-Moving/dp/0399169253/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469987586&sr=8-1&keywords=the+anxiety+toolkit) and it made me realize how much crap I'm still dealing with.

Kids aren't on the radar for me yet, but I want to be a knowledgeable parent caring for a child and their well-being. I don't want my hang-ups to spill over into their life. I think that's great that at least now you're aware of what a toll it can take on a child to see their stuff tossed/destroyed. I wished my parents taught me how to manage my possessions. I felt like my parents didn't know how to care for kids beyond basic needs like food, shelter, and school. They didn't know how to talk to us beyond those things. I don't want to become like them. Especially having gotten married recently and becoming a "grown up", my relationship with my mom has been strained. We never had a really supportive one to begin with. Now she really doesn't know how to deal with me at this stage since she can't control me like when I was a kid.

The author of this book spent a year painting items she coveted instead of buying them, and put together this book containing those illustrations alongside her ruminations on her relationship to stuff and history of consumption.

It's a quick read, and it focuses mostly on clothing and a little bit on other stuff, but I enjoyed it a lot and a lot of it rang true to lessons I've learned myself the hard way: the mental exclusions for purchases intended to enable creativity. The perils of online shopping shortening the covet-hunt-purchase cycle. It's expensive to be a minimalist, and coveting minimalist aesthetics often paradoxically leads to more consumption. The Diderot Effect, in which buying one expensive thing leads to a consumption spiral where everything else gets upgraded as well. Rule #4.

Recommended reading for anyone in this subreddit. I think part of what I liked about it was that the author is someone who likes stuff and recognizes its appeal, so it doesn't feel like the "buy less" message is coming from a place of judgment or lack of understanding.

I should make a contract like this with my husband. Every time I buy makeup during my no buy, I have to buy him one of these. He really loves these boxers, and they're a big enough purchase for me to tell myself I can't buy makeup unless I buy a pair of those.

Thanks for the idea! Hopefully we find a bit of solidarity here, haha!

u/LuckyShamrocks · 3 pointsr/MakeupRehab

I've used this one and this one from amazon. You just have to make sure it's actually all spearmint. A lot of store brands mix the mints, so check the back for that.

I have one cup a day. 1-2 tbsp is all you need for a big cup. Less if you're using a standard one, but mine are all giant Friends size lol.

I tried using an infuser, but always ended up with bits in my tea, so now I just use my ninja coffee maker with a filter for a single morning cup. You can make a whole pot and fridge it too if you'd prefer it cold. For me it replaced my morning coffee so it was easy getting into a habit with it.

I will say on the cleanser (because I am sort of cheap) I use the Dr.Bronner's Magic Castile soap in lavender (I bought the bar form) but they have liquid from Target and it cleans my BB perfectly. Also Amazon has a two pack for [24.99] (http://www.amazon.com/Beautyblender-Ultimate-MakeUp-Applicator-sponges/dp/B000I5HJ2Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417464731&sr=8-1&keywords=beauty+blender)

Edit words... also my reasoning on the Castile soap is the fact it is way more than you will get with the name brand beauty blender version.

Yay! I bought some round 3g jars on Amazon that have been working pretty well for all of my indie shadows. I peel the sticker off the baggie and stick it to the bottom of the jar so I can still see the color. You can find several vendors on Amazon or eBay. I think there's a few on Etsy as well that sell really nice ones.

Other options are bead jars, etc. that you can find at Michael's or other craft stores.

Congratulations on your engagement and best wishes!

Warning: the wedding magazines and blogs are full of temptations to spend lots of money on things you don't need. It helped me to keep in mind that the only things you really need for a wedding are a willing partner, an officiant, and a marriage license. Everything else is optional. A Practical Wedding (both the book and the website) provided excellent advice to avoid the wedding consumerism and keep things in perspective.

Your counter is a huge improvement! If it helps, I use this programmable space heater in my bathroom. It's a lifesaver!

Not sure if you are looking for recommendations but my favorite vegetarian cookbook of all time is Vegetarian Soups for all Seasons. My husband asks for the taco soup at least twice a week in winter. I also love Isa Chandra Moskowitz's Spicy Peanut and Eggplant Shallot Stew.
