  1. Check out the screen shot and you will see my different values in yellow. Those were all the changes I made permanent in Intel XTU. You will need to play with your own settings. Start by undervolting -75mv and run a load test. There are loads of Youtube videos that show you how to do this.
  2. They make the bottom case hotter. If the laptop is sitting on a cooler, then the top case is actually cooler than before because heat is getting removed from the case more efficiently. If not on a cooler, then it is a bit warmer, but not uncomfortable.
  3. The hardest part of this operation is getting the bottom case off without damaging the clips. Cutting and placing the pads is pretty straightforward - Easier than repasting. I have Kryonaut, but ended up not repasting the GPU/CPU as it did not seem to need it.
  4. I have a couple of stands for my different work areas. My favorite stand is not made anymore: Zalman NC-1000. It cost $60 over 15 years ago (and it is still going with the same fans). It is quiet and has a comfortable angle to type on. They have newer versions of that, but they don't have the same quality as the old ones. I also have an mRain stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F01DRW6/ref=sr_1_5_twi_col_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1536337540&sr=1-5&keywords=macbook+pro+laptop+stand. It is great for getting the laptop up to eye level and freeing up desk space, but not handy to type on. You have to figure out what stand makes sense for your use-case.

I play WoW on medium settings. On battery temps are around 65-68c and the fans are pretty loud, although I got this coming from an old Sony Vaio Flip 15 which was 10x louder when doing hardly anything... so the MXP's fans are not too loud for me.

If gaming while charging it adds another 3-6 degrees. This laptop is hotter while charging which is my only real gripe. But while playing wow they keyboard does get hot but not "too" hot to handle. More demanding games I can totally see it getting too hot unfortunately.

I must note as well that I have Undervolted and Overclocked as well, which helps a lot and I recommend, but the numbers above are based on that... so if you don't do this it will be even hotter. Probably another 5c or so.

I am planning on getting this to help for gaming: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079JFW3YT/?coliid=I1VYO4B83RSIUJ&colid=1ON11UAPA6MN&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

When not gaming this thing is cool and quite though... even with a lot of multitasking.

I bought that one and it works beautifully ^ Nice cable too!

I'm pretty sure it carries both audio and video. Don't bother with an adapter if you can just do it in one cable! Hope this helps.

I found this case on Amazon for the Matebook x pro. I didn't use but I wanted to share my thoughts about it

https://www.amazon.com/Huawei-MateBook-Leather-Protective-Laptop/dp/B07FDXD1J2?keywords=huawei%2Bmatebook%2Bx%2Bpro%2Bcase&qid=1535838446&sr=8-6&ref=mp_s_a_1_6&th=1&psc=1

I think with this case you will protect your laptop and also you won't feel the heat coming out of the device when you use it on your lap. Such a good functionality.

But the aesthetic of the case is not that good. I hope some good company make a case like this with a good aesthetic that match with the build quality of this laptop

u/taylortaudio · 2 pointsr/MatebookXPro

Ableton user here and I agree, it's crazy that this is a thing. Also just in general a noisy headphone amp sucks, coming from a MacBook Pro with a clean amp.

ASIO4ALL might work, I have it installed but haven't seen if it fixed the issue. Like Speedy said, it makes ableton the only app to play audio through the device, so no switching quickly between apps to listen to something else.

I have this dac and headphone amp. Sounds great and it's small enough to travel with.

Sweet review!

I got my on wednesday. I just had to undervolt (-0.105v) the CPU and everything is just perfect. I have the i5 version. I also got the Amazon Basic Sleeve yesterday (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B013TGFTDY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It fits great.

"Surface laptop/Macs don't have comparable specs for $1100 though. I feel like a i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD for $1100 seems like a great value?"

You're right. That's why I bought one. My point was that the newest model of the matebook x pro costs $1900+, and at the price there's no huge advantage to the matebook vs the competition. But at $1200 it's a screaming deal -- you're getting a laptop that would otherwise cost you $600-700 more.

Here's the ebay link:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/OB-Huawei-Matebook-X-Pro-13-9-53010CAJ-Intel-i7-8550U-512GB-SSD-16GB-MX150/264446113021?epid=17029957227&hash=item3d923774fd:g:CNUAAOSwAWtbsrB2

versus the amazon link:
https://www.amazon.com/Huawei-MateBook-Signature-i7-8550U-GeForce/dp/B07FRPL763/ref=pd_sbs_147_t_0/145-4590881-4935844?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07FRPL763&pd_rd_r=05c942b9-8d5c-44fb-a5f9-feebac255b7f&pd_rd_w=kLyNY&pd_rd_wg=GdkLz&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=QRB0Q3JMVT9DERJ8QT61&psc=1&refRID=QRB0Q3JMVT9DERJ8QT61

ebay is $1200, amazon is $1170. I figured open box was worth $30, but who knows.
Happy shopping!

My travel setup:

  • Microsoft Arc Mouse - A decent bluetooth mouse that is great for travel with its folding mechanic. I like that I can horizontally scroll with the touchpad on the mouse, but I trigger the vertical scrolling unintentionally every so often. Right clicking is weird too; you have to lift up your pointer finger and click the right side of the touchpad, otherwise it will register as a left click.
  • Steelseries QcK Mousepad (Small) - Nothing special about it. It's a cloth mousepad that I can slide into my backpack.
  • Generic "leather" Case - An okay "use while having it on"-case that's probably one of the best for the MXP just because there are so few options. It's not made from leather and it looks unassuming, if not bland. But it will prevent the laptop from getting scratched up and would probably do a decent job of protecting it from a ~3ft. fall.
  • SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD (1TB) - Haven't had any issues with it yet, and since it's so light I just leave it hanging by the short USB-C cable while I have the laptop on my lap.
  • Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD - Beefy battery pack that I use for all my electronics. I just wish it had 2 USB-C/1 USB-A instead of 1 USB-C/2 USB-A.

Why would any one pay more for a matebook X when amazon has them for $1350? 😂😂😂😂

I got this Dell 13" sleeve and it fits like a glove, has option for a shoulder strap and a small accessory compartment. It's quite beautiful too. Best option I found when shopping for one. LINK ON AMAZON

EDIT

Got it all hooked up and it has everything I will need it for. It frees up the charging usb c port on the laptop so I think that can be used for something else besides charging. It has one display port , two usb A 3.0. microphone , headset or speaker , thunderbolt 3 for thunderbolt or usb c , usb c 3.1 gen 1, and ethernet. Thunderbolt 3 host and power dc in.

u/wodurrah · 1 pointr/MatebookXPro

IF you're looking for a USB C PD charger the best I have found is the Jackery 26800. It is $100. Does 45W through the USC C, and has an additional USB A port that can fast charge 18 W. I know some others have a better assortment of ports or others have higher PD output of 60W. I have found for the price and ability it is the best I have ever used. And before the Jackery I had the Ravpower 26800 but that one was only 30W USB C PD and didnt have fast charge. Def a good option.

just got this in the mail.... Amazing fit. good quality. Matte doesnt ruin the quality of the screen really at all.

highly suggest this one.

u/Bhavie · 1 pointr/MatebookXPro

Depends on where you're at, I have this one and its really good: https://www.amazon.ca/MateBook-Protector-Anti-Glare-Anti-Fingerprint-Coverage/dp/B07BT27MYV/ref=sr_1_17?keywords=matebook+x+pro&qid=1550612406&s=gateway&sr=8-17.

I don't understand the bad reviews lol, I'm not particularly adept at screen protector installation but mine went on fine and the matte finish is really nice. Only knock I have is it makes the screen slightly grainy which is noticeable when the screen is white.

u/MinimumFollowing · 2 pointsr/MatebookXPro

Ordered mine on Amazon Friday week before last on Amazon, arrived last Friday. Expedited shipping - Amazon. Now that I turned off bottom-right-is-a-right-click setting for track pad, i'm pretty happy. They have 3 in stock.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CTHN94Z/

u/Technotronsky · 2 pointsr/MatebookXPro

Already love the original touchpad, but I don't know how the plastic will hold up over the next couple of months. Plus who doesn't love the touch of glass. Got mine here: https://www.protectionfilms24.com/custom-sizes.html

I find the prices really good, paid something like 13 EUR incl. shipping for 2 of these (wanted one spare in case I messed up... well I didn't ;-).

The exact measurements I used were: 63.5mm x 118.5mm with a 2mm radius on the edges. As you can see, I have a bit of space on the right/left side of the trackpad, so 119mm would probably be spot on. Right now I am applying an oleophobic coating every evening for the next 4 or 5 days so the surface is less prone to fingerprints and smudges, plus it makes it feel even smoother. Using this one here: https://www.amazon.com/Crystal-Armor-Fingerprint-Oleophobic-Coating/dp/B00LKYW6M0/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1BZETL2ULKAL3&keywords=oleophobic+coating&qid=1554233628&s=gateway&sprefix=oleophi%2Caps%2C285&sr=8-1

The reviews are mixed, but I find you really have to apply it a couple of times, making sure to let it sit for the night or at least 8 hours before applying it again. People tend to be very impatient, but this is key to getting the most out of your coating. You can also use this to restore the coating on your phones/tablets/touchscreens by the way, but please apply it at your own risk!

Edit: 13 EUR for 2 of these incl. shipping

I just replaced the built-in SSD with a Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB. You can easily pull out the SSD after removing the backplate of the book and nothing else. Scratch off the white sticker placed on the screw holding the SSD in place and you're good to go. I thought it would be just as easy to plug in the new SSD, but it didn't seem to work. I wiggled around for about almost half an hour but never managed to put it in its place.

The reason why this might have not worked: Under the SSD there is some sort of foam pad. You might have to apply some pressure on the SSD while plugging it in (by applying pressure on the metal plate above it) or else this foam pad pushes the SSD too high. For this I had too few hands (I'm only blessed with two of them).

And so I started removing screws from the metal cover, which is all over the SSD's side of the notebook. After removing the following screws it was easy to insert the SSD; to do so lift up the metal plate a bit: https://dateimaschine.de/image/e1d7614f01486ce3.png

I hope I got the screws right, I couldn't find an image with the plate still on (edit: there is one in this thread, whatever...), but you should get the idea. Remove as many screws as you need to be able to lift up the plate a bit. Then inserting the SSD is easy. I think you don't lift up any parts with thermal paste while doing so. You should notice that you need Torx screwdrivers to open the case and small Phillips screwdrivers to loosen the metal plate above the SSD (on it there are Phillips screws of two sizes).

(The original picture is from http://bradshacks.com/matebook-x-pro-teardown/)

You can use this Torx screwdriver to open the notebook's case: https://www.amazon.com/Wiha-96705-Screwdriver-Precision-Handle/dp/B000T9XPU4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1537524716&sr=8-3&keywords=wiha+t5&dpID=212e2urDihL&preST=_SX342_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Any Torx T5 should work, although I've read that those screws are actually somewhere between T5 and T6. So a T6 might also work. But the above worked perfectly, a T6 of the same series of screwdrivers was too big.

Unfortunately, I can't give you a size for the Phillips screws on the metal plate, but they are quite small.

Short version:

I'm in your same situatiion simply in europe. I just got one of those supercheap adapters (the EU version of course). It works normally.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eurosonic-Travel-Adaptor-Plug-version-White/dp/B000P0FIUM/ref=sr_1_6?crid=X3FAG1L6BDIB&keywords=us+to+uk+plug+adapter&qid=1558614901&s=electronics&sprefix=us+to+uk%2Celectronics%2C131&sr=1-6

Long version:

The Matebook charger (like 99.99999999% of the chargers) is developed for a range between 100 and 240 Volts for 50 and 60hz. This means that the charger is the same worldwide, simply the plug physically differs. So if you use an adapter will work just fine. Buying another charger is more expensive but it will allow you to have a physically smaller solution since you don't need to carry around charger and adapter. Personally i have a charger with an adapter and it is working totally fine since 7 months.

I bought and installed this matte screen protector and its doing a great job. It is a bit tricky to install though and requires some patience. The tab to peel the film off allowing the adhesive to stick to the screen starts to peel from the bottom, so you have to install it from the bottom up instead of from the top down. Working very well at the moment though - so far so good after about 2 weeks. I used some of the dust-removal stickers as anchors to keep it in place.

u/RYJASM · 3 pointsr/MatebookXPro

Yep. Resolution is only dependent on the limitations of the output port or input port on the monitor, which always comes down to bandwidth. A list of resolutions is sent from the monitor to the computer. You can also create custom resolutions for non-standard resolutions, but those don't always work on all displays. So your laptop screen can be sized to it's 3000x2000 resolution and your external monitor can be sized to its 3840x1600 resolution. Most likely though, you will have to get a usb-c to display port cable to handle the high resolution of that monitor.

I bought this one. It matches nicely and drives my 3440x1440 monitor at 120hz: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/

I'd recommend getting a charger from a well known brand. Anker is regarded as one of the best when it comes to aftermarket chargers.
They sell a few 60W chargers (stock is 65W, but the Anker 60W charger I use is practically the same charging time).
I'm not sure if these are sold by Amazon MX, might need to purchase from eBay, etc:

If i understand correctly, you are charging with 19 watts (2A x 9V), while the normal laptop charger is capable of 65 watts (3.25A x 20V), which means you are charging more than 3 times slower.

Ive seen many recommending the Anker charger:

I was looking at the Matebook X Pro signature edition which is being sold on amazon by "Coryell Solutions (UK and EU import fees included)" they are selling it for £1479. Still not sure if I'm going to buy it from this seller, for a couple of reasons.

Not sure if I'm allowed to link so please remove if this is wrong. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Huawei-MateBook-Signature-i7-8550U-GeForce/dp/B07CTHN94Z/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=HAR1HZVC81Q9PRH3Z0MF

The other stores I was looking at are now showing as out of stock for the 16GB model; which gives me less options, as I would rather buy from a brick and mortar store in case something went wrong.
